Today, the word “geek” is thrown around with reckless abandon. While it’s nice to see that geek culture is beginning to be accepted by the mainstream, the term “Geek Chic” is still quite irritating. Throwing on a pair of dark rimmed glasses and a pre-faded superhero shirt from Target makes you a “geek” as much as a cowboy hat and a country western bar makes an upper class suburbanite a redneck. “Geek” is more than skin deep.
Comic books are a truly fundamental piece of geek culture. Nolan’s Batman Trilogy, Whedon’s The Avengers, and even shows like Smallville and Arrow have proven that for superhero fans it’s a great time to alive. However, if one really wants to gain a deeper appreciation for these things, it’s best to go back to the original source material. Having spent a majority of our lives reading them, we’ve dedicated this episode to the simple joy that is comics. This episode features:
Roger’s completely fair and unbiased Comic Trivia Game.
The origin story of our comic book collections, and how it feels to be an adult comic enthusiast.
Our thoughts on many of today’s popular comic writers and artists.
A heated “Are comic books literature?” debate so vicious and confusing that listeners are brought in to help settle the subject.
Roger’s descent from masterful debater, to furious, drunken mess.
Information on how anyone (seriously, anyone) can win a free month of PlayStation Plus and a copy of Sid Meier’s Civilization V.
Whether you’re avid comic collector, or have never even read a single panel, take a listen. We may turn you on to some great new titles, or possibly offend you with something grossly inaccurate. Either way, join in on the conversation via Facebook, Twitter, or in the comment section below. Listener responses are always welcome and will be read on the air.

AMD has released a brand new driver for its graphics cards. According to the release notes, the AMD Radeon Adrenalin Edition 18.2.1 is optimized for Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age. Moreover, this driver addresses some corruption issues on some terrain in Need for Speed Payback, and some launch issues on Hybrid Graphics system configurations when using the DirectX9 API in Sid Meier’s Civilization V.
It appears that Sid Meier’s Civilization V has hit a new milestone. According to Steamspy’s data, Firaxis’ strategy game has sold more than 10 million units worldwide.
That's quite an achievement! It would be interesting to know how many units were sold at full price and how many during a Steam Sale. I think I bought it for $10 during one of the big sales.
