I hated how GoW3 was so bright. They took away all the grittiness...

I got to agree with this. The grey "destroyed beauty" look was awesome.

That said, for online play the more vibrant colors help me distinguish a person from the walls better.

So it is a double edged sword....

Yes and no. Some parts could be brighter during the game. I love the dark grit it was known for though cuz it set the mood of the game. Not every game needs to be bright and happy.
