Considering it started out at $999, this is pretty big news for PS3.

The Federal Australia minimum wage is $15.51 per hour or $589.30 per week (38 hours ).

U.S. federal law requires a minimum wage of at least $7.25 per hour

So works out to be the same price.

It would be a disappointment with a price drop and the number of exclusives it had last year if it did not outsell other consoles.

PSN hack + STILL costs more than competition. So it is very impressive when you consider these factors.

As for the PSN hack, I doubt too many people really used the PSN hack to make a console purchasing decision.

Still believe that based on the games last year and the price drop there was no reason for PS3 to be second in any region.

Especially, since the major competition to the PS3 didn't take any action to reduce price or compete on exclusives for the entire year.

False. The only big regions the 360 outsells the PS3 are the UK and US. The "rest of the world" is in PS3's favor (when speaking strictly against the 360).

i think even in the u.k its being slightly outsold by ps3 the u.s is its last hoorah like i said the U.S is the most unloyal of the 3 regions that success may not carry over into next gen for them they may go back to Sony or even Nintendo its more about what they friends have or whats hot at the moment the other regions dont tend to operate like that but brand loyalty that is what micro is going to have trouble with.

Not sure if anyone would take this article seriously it is flawed saying that NPD numbers .
NPD only deals with North America not Australia.

NPD has an Australia "division," so your skepticism there is unfounded (a simple 3-second Google search confirmed as much). Hell, a visit to the website shows a "Worldwide" tab that, when moused over, shows 20 different flags. Nice try, though.

To those who seem to be jokingly saying "Australia isn't the world," and "the 360 sold more worldwide," yes, you are correct. However, the fact is that the 360 outsold the PS3 is two regions, while the PS3 outsold the 360 in many more. It just so happens that the margin by which the 360 outsold the PS3 in those two regions wound up being enough to give it the edge in worldwide sales.

Perspectives, people. Context. These things help when you're making your claims.
