The majority of the Wii hardware that is sold is pushed to "casual gamers" like peoples' grandmas and people who play occasionally. The hardcore crowd has yet to really pick up and purchase the wii as of now. This results in very low software sales as "casual gamers" are more likely to pick up multiplayer games, which will be once every six months. This is common sense, you cannot argue with this.

500k is pretty bad for a franchise that is as highly regarded as Super Mario. If Halo 3 sold the same amount it would be considered a borderline failure as well.. use your brains people.

The Truth is "the casual" gamer, is NOT a "gamer" at all. The casual gamer, just passes time with games, thats why they like games like pacman, and wii sports. "Simple" games that aren't complicated, with "simple" controls, for "simple" people.

Casual gamers are retroactive gamers, they live in the past, and like "classic gaming". "casual gamers" DO NOT buy games.

I've been gaming for 17 years and I love some of the retro games, in fact quite a few of them are better than the crap we get now. I don't see how retro games would really appeal to casuals since casuals are really the type of people who only care about graphics and would generally label the retro games as old and crappy looking.

Fact is SNES and MegaDrive were some of the best consoles of their time and puts today's shovelware, sequels and ports to shame. Even the N64 was hella awesome.

This guy doesn't understand game sales. He expects a great game to sell 1 million copies in one week. If he knew what he was talking about he'd know that games take awhile to get to the million marker. Cept for the brainwashed Halo fans (don't worry folks I bought mine 1st day as well).

By his theroy only Halo is a sucssfull game because it's the only one to sell a million in it's first week. He's a big old xbox fan. Plus what's up with the title? Spam central.

The Wii has sold something like 12 million consoles, but it doesn't have that many great games. Mario should have had no problem selling 1 million games in it's first day on shelves. I bought mario galaxy only to realize I had no interest in playing it(originally bought it for my wife). We played it a couple times, and now the Wii is back to collecting dust again. Mario just isn't that interesting anymore. Plus the whole idea of mario in space may seem a little too stupid for some gamers.

The thing that's funny to me is to see a (once thought extinct) Nintendo fanboy come out of no where. A guy I work with has been hyping Mario galaxy up ever since halo came out. Talking about all other game companies will hold their releases back, or try to release their games before mario comes out, because mario is the G.O.A.T(Greatest of all time). I told him that sounded odd to me cause alot of companies released their game on that day. I guess no one was as scared of mario as he thought!

Back on topic: Don't hate on Halo, alot of these fanboys may have hyped halo 3 up to be something truely epic. But I only expected halo to be halo and just finish the story. I didn't think halo would have the cure for cancer. I didn't think it would contain the fountain of youth. I just liked the story and the combat and wanted to see how it ended. There is no reason to hate halo!

This just seems like such a stupid video. Both people seem like High Schoolers practicing journalism or something.

The game has sold well over one million copies worldwide and it has only been out for a few weeks in North America and Europe.

Plus, since there are still MANY people searching for a Wii worldwide (nearly 100% of whom will likely purchase SMG when they finally secure the system), the game will continue to sell tons throughout this season.

Since the wii like the DS appeals to a broader demographic not every person who gets a wii will buy games aimed at the core nintendo audiance.

i tend to agree with him.I wont call it a complete failure but it s disappointing.If MGS4,GTA4 or HALO were to sell 500k in its 1st week,then its a failure.

SMG is supposed to be the HALO of Nintendo.The biggest,best and most recognized video game character to date.

But its so far been regarded as the best selling Mario so if it can keep sales steady till Christmas then it will be a mega success
