Neocrisis: Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Review

Neocrisis: The original Halo ten years ago made a huge impact of console gaming. It was the first time a first person shooter actually felt right without pc controls. Since then a lot has changed, and although the game does hold up fairly well, there are still some hiccups that are just there because it is a old game. (Halo, Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo: Combat Evolved, Xbox 360) 9.5/10

I'd quite like to give this a play but I'm not putting Skyrim down for anything. Just as well as I will pick up Halo later on the cheaps.

have to admit skyrim is taking over my life, got the new assassins creed and sonic still in the wraping, just cant stop playing.

Timesplitters. Obviously that reviewer is a total retard and has played an extremely limited library of games, not even going to read the damn thing after that insolence.

Also, potentially PD and Goldeneye. But the reason TS is important is because it has the same thumbstick setup that a load of uninformed people attribute to Halo even though it came out more than a year later.

Regardless though, Halo was and still is a masterpiece and I shall be dusting off my 360 to play Anniversary.

I had timesplitters as well, but the first game to use that type of controls was Turok 1 on N64, but without a second stick of course.

Of course it didnt have two thumbsticks, but it used the analogue to look/aim and the C buttons to move forward/backward and strafe. Before and even after that game FPS like GE and PD used the stick to turn/ move forward/backwards. It wasnt until controllers had two stick that other console FPS put the looking on the stick with the other having strafe/forward/backwards together like turok had with the stick and C buttons.

So The c buttons acted as the left stick in shooters today with the forward/backwards/strafe and the stick was used to look/aim like the right stick. It used the dual analogue setup that we know so well today even before controllers had dual analogues.

Goldeneye and PD had different type of controls. I think Turok 1 controls were ahead of there time and would translate perfectly to todays controllers.

But I dont think that him saying halo was the first time FPS controls felt right on consoles necessarily means using two sticks. he is probably referring to the combination of two sticks, triggers, and the aim assist that the game had made it really easy to control for a console FPS. But I wouldnt be surprised if he never played Timesplitters or turok 1 before either.

Why not? Halo CE is regarded by the industry as one of (if not THEE) best FPS ever MADE for consoles. CE averages a 97 on Metacritic and won countless GoTY awards. Anniversary is this gen's first true HD remake and adds enough new content to the mix to warrant such a score.

This is a great game and it remastered in hd makes it even better
