Another bunch of drooling Doom 3 screenshots; Proof that mods can take PC games to new heights

DSOGaming writes: "Earlier this month we brought you some screenshots from Doom 3 modded. Wulfen’s Texture Pack with Sikkmod 1.1 fit perfectly and although this combination is quite demanding, it provides us with some mind-blowing visuals. And today, we bring you another bunch of screenshots from this combination. As before, all credits for these screenshots go to marcelus from NvNews.

Enjoy Doom 3 like never before and imagine what modders will be able to achieve now that Doom 3′s source code is free for everyone!"

You can view them in full-screen by opening them in a new window (instead of using the window slideshow)

If consoles had the kind of open-source mod community that PC gamers enjoy, they would definitely win some points in the PC vs Console war. That's the only thing I really feel like I miss out on when I get a new game.

If modders can do stuff like this for Doom 3, just imagine what they could do with Rage since they have developers tools.

mods are cool and all, but i like to play the real thing, what the developers gave us.

... that makes no sense whatsoever.

Mods aren't made to replace the game, they're made to enhance it or add replay value in the form of additional content.

recently played deus ex (again) with the newest mods... and I must say it does give it another breath

If you mean mods that take away from the overall feel of the game I sort of get what you mean. I've seen some mods in certain games that completely ruin the original atmosphere the developers were trying to portray. For example there are a few Fallout 3 mods that a lot of people see as a must have that I feel completely destroy the setting, but maybe that's just me.

Great thing about mods though is that you don't have to use them, it's great to have a selection you can pick and choose to your liking. I prefer very minor tweaks that can have a substantial effect on the game but also don't differentiate from the basic elements too much, not a fan of complete overhauls.

Sometimes the stuff the devs give us now a days aren't complete.
