Capcom Doesn't Need Your Permission To Choose Characters in Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3

There's been no shortage of controversial news swirling around Capcom this week, but this one might take the cake. Apparently, a spokesman for the company alluded to the fact that Capcom can basically do what they want without regard for the fans when it comes to choosing which new characters to put in Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. (Capcom, Dev, PS3, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, Xbox 360)

"He also states that if Capcom "wants to include Firebrand and not Mega Man," based on what it believes may make a more balanced videogame, it can do that, because Capcom is making the game. "Not the fans."

Didn't they ask fans who they wanted to see as DLC. They had a thread on the forums. 6 characters for Marvel and 6 for Capcom who you wanted to see as DLC

And MegaMan was the #1 most requested character on those polls in America and Japan.

If Capcom wants to sell copies of MVC3 they better include characters the fans want as DLC.
bruddahmanmatt  +   1151d ago
They're 100% right. They can include and exclude whatever characters they want from the roster. On the flipside to that coin, I can buy or NOT BUY whatever F'ing game I want as well.

Dear Capcom,

whatever the case, one thing is for absolute certain: whoever was the artist for the MVC2 drawings is by far the best artist on the planet

No computer rendering, no digital additives

just simple penciling and coloring

ahhh bliss

edit: haha wow i just noticed my avatar is one of his drawings. i put that up years ago

that thread wasnt from Capcom itself just from a mod on the site who said he/she would send the poll to Capcom but if they dont need our permission to add in what characters we want in the game along with modes and whatever then we dont need theirs to leave the game on the shelves
princejb134  +   1151d ago
wow he said "capcom makes the game not the fans", well we pay you for the game if you don't like money than FU
yewles1  +   1152d ago
This article fails 'cuz it took Jim Sterling seriously.
Ingram  +   1151d ago
Ok, I suppose they don't need my "permission".

Do they need my money?

Point.

Exactly. Some developers have this new attitude that what we want doesn't count forgetting that we could just simply NOT buy the game. Then where would they be? Like Ubisoft saying they don't want to give us BGE 2 for current consoles but want to wait until next gen. Well suppose I don't want to wait? I could easily not buy your games this or any generation ever again. They seem to not get that buying their games is what makes up their revenue. Telling us our systems don't matter or trying to kiss up to one system over another or telling us what we want or lashing out at potential buyers is not the way to help me buy your games. I can easily ignore it just like anyone can.I don't HAVE to buy MVC3.
Cpt_kitten  +   1151d ago
are we gonna see 5 releases of MVC3 like street fighter 4

money grabbing at its best
KwietStorm  +   1151d ago
There are only 3 versions of SFIV. And at least those released over a year apart and weren't full price.

No permission
No money

Don't like it? stop making games.
MoveTheGlow  +   1151d ago
That's a perfect response from Capcom, given what they did to the MML3 community. If you're going to disregard your loyal customers, why not go all the way? We'll respond in kind if that's the case.
Ingram  +   1151d ago
You seem to know how to use this deeveedee and select the buttons LMAO
MoveTheGlow  +   1151d ago
I also sound like I'm from New York. Sometimes. And it's awkward.
KwietStorm  +   1151d ago
No shit they don't need permission, but with the decisions they've been making this generation, they're not doing themselves any favors by asking for our input and then making a left instead of a right. If Resident Evil 6 turns out to be another plagas action shoot em up, the last sliver of hope I have for them will be gone. And they used to be my favorite developer growing up.
TruthbeTold  +   1151d ago
I honestly don't even care who the characters are at this point. I'm done with Capcom. At least until they manage to absolutely intrigue and amaze me again, which they haven't done in a very long time. The company is in half-ass, milk-it mode. There's nothing there for me right now. I'm done.
specialguest  +   1151d ago
Isn't it obvious?
Megaman is already developed as a DLC and is in pending status. Capcom KNOWS Megaman is in high demand and is a potential money maker.

They probably avoided adding Megaman to avoid the game getting cancelled... :V

LOL!! people are funny. You will buy it no matter what, stop talking like you all are big shots. You will take whomever capcom puts in the game and like it. lol
Hicken  +   1151d ago
Unless they announce a Breath of Fire, I won't be picking up a Capcom game any time soon.
Happythedog  +   1151d ago
LOLOLOL @ this article, wow Capcom has some sad ass mofos buying there games. These people need to find girls bad.

Well well capcom has made itself public enemy #1 as of this week. Mega-man gets trashed, and now this...
TBONEJF  +   1151d ago
That's fucked up Capcom. you put Zero in their instead of Mega Man. DON'T THEY KNOW HOW MANY LOYAL FANS Mega Man have? If they don't want to put the new game out SO I WON'T BUY THEIR GAMES EVER AGAIN
AnAncientTree  +   1151d ago
Am I the only one getting sick of hearing this friggin crying about Megaman and UMVC3?

First, UMVC3 isnt as big a ripoff as these entitled, casual gamer clowns make it out to be. If Capcom had added these new characters as DLC for the current version of the game, which more-than-likely would have been at $5 a piece, then these 12 new characters would have amounted to about the price of a full retail game. I know a lot of people would say "They shouldnt even be charging that much for a DLC character anyway DURRRRRRR!" But at the end of the day, who are you to tell a developer, any developer what a DLC is worth? Do you work for them? Did you overlook the process of programming the character and his/her move sets? Do you know precisely how many hours and how much man power was put into these processes? Do you know what Capcom had to pay for the license to use that character? Be real for once. People deserve to get paid for their work and services no matter who they are and unless you overlooked the process, you're in no position to determine what its worth. And please dont drop the "all or most of these characters were already on disc" argument. Prove it.

But yeah, 12 new characters worth $60, 8 new stages, a revamped, smoother and improved online mode with a new, unique netcode and various tweaks and improvements to the overall fighting mechanics/gameplay and balance. They obviously have been observing the way the game is being played at high levels, took note of glitches, balance issues and exploits being discovered by players and made changes based on that. Its at a $39.99 price point. You probably spent more money than that on fast food last week or buying a copy of Madden 'X.

About all the whining about Megaman, just knock it off. I love the old Megaman games as much as the next man but this is a FIGHTING GAME first above everything else. Where did this attitude come from that this game is supposed to 1000% completely revolve around fan service? Of course, theres a crap load of fan service in the game as is and more to come with this version (they added Phoenix Wright for you idiots) but its a FIGHTING GAME first. I would put my money on the majority of these Megaman crybabies being casual fighting game players. The type to buy games like this, get bored after a month or go into matches button mashing with there favorite marvel/capcom character, lose every match, realize that this game is actually a serious fighter that they're not willing to commit to, then trade it in to Lamestop. The type that werent even gonna initially buy the game until they found out their favorite voice actor from the cartoon of their favorite character would be doing the voice for their him/her in the game. Please... Megaman wasnt even a good fighter in MVC2, all people did was run away and spam his one-button fireball, thats it. Stop whining about Capcom not fulfilling your sentimentality-based desire for Megaman to be in this game, just because he's Megaman and nothing more. You love Megaman so much, play Megaman! Theres plenty of legendary, loved characters and more to come in this game.

Dont like it? Dont buy it. You really think a few of you passing on this game over some petty BS are gonna put a dent in Capcom? LMAO. It will still sell well because true fighting game players will recognize its more subtle, game improving upgrades along with the fan service and happily buy it. The truth hurts and im not here to make friends. Im here to speak my mind so say what you will but this is all truth.
