Rumor: MGS3 online multiplayer not included in Metal Gear Solid HD Collection

Hideo Kojima has revealed that Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence will be the version to be ported to the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 via the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection. However, it looks like the online multiplayer portion that was introduced in Subsistence (the original Metal Gear Online for Playstation 2) won’t be included.

Weak sausages. Weak sauce as well.

Yi-Long4711d ago (Edited 4711d ago )

... I haven't played any of the MGS games yet, so I really wanted to start with the first one, in HD ofcourse.

MintBerryCrunch4711d ago (Edited 4711d ago )

HD textures and the low poly count in the game don't go together...idk why people aren't getting this

it just wouldnt look good

@below

They most likely won't port Twin Snakes because it's not a proper Kojima game...it was developed by Silicon Knights with some assistance from Konami...other than giving the final thumbs up before release, Kojima and Kojima Productions had very little to do with the game

if there ever was a re-release, it would most likely be on a Nintendo system...Kojima, from what i have heard did this as a favor for Nintendo

Veeger4711d ago

You can get it in PS Store as PS1 classics for PS3 and PSP. It should look alright on PSP.

kharma454711d ago

It's a pity MGS1 isn't going to be there, I'd even have taken the Twin Snakes remake if it was possible.

creamsoda4711d ago (Edited 4711d ago )

IMO they should of ported the MGS1 Twin Snakes from the gamecube version and made it HD. Would be alot smarter.

KyRo4711d ago

@MintBerryCrush

I don't know if you we're aware but MGS1 was remade on the Gamecube with the MGS2 engine. It wouldn't of hurt to try and get that on it.

JAMurida4711d ago (Edited 4711d ago )

@Yi-Long

Make sure you play it in chronological order, which is:

MGS 3
MGS Peacewalker
MGS 1
MGS 2
MGS 4

That way you understand the story better.

tehpees34711d ago

I'll be sad if this is true

4711d ago
Yi-Long4711d ago

...I'll keep that in mind, although I doubt I'll play those old Metal Gear games... :)

hoof1234711d ago

@ theburnedman

You've got that wrong mate.

The order of the series chronologically is...

MGS3
MGS: Portable Ops
MGS: Peace Walker
Metal Gear
Metal Gear 2
MGS1
MGS2
MGS4

With Rising rumoured to take place inbetween MGS2 & MGS4.

CaptainMarvelQ84711d ago

How are both MSX (MGS1) and MGS2 in Subsentence when MGS2 is offered as another game?

please clarify, because i really want to play them all but a bit confused

4711d ago
hoof1234711d ago (Edited 4711d ago )

@CaptainMarvelQ8

They were both included on the Persistence bonus disk of the MGS3 re: release ( which was called subsistence.

MGS3 is easy to find. But MGS3: Subsistence is fairly rare. I managed to pick a copy up on ebay and you might have the same luck. If not, you can probably play Metal Gear 1, and Metal Gear 2 on an emulator.

@theburnedman

READ my post before you comment. Your ignorance outstands me.

I have heard of and played the original MSX versions of Metal Gear, and included them in my list. METAL GEAR 1 & METAL GEAR 2: SOLID SNAKE, are chronologically SET inbetween Peace Walker & MGS1.

Here, I will simplify the list for you.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, (1964)
Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, (1970)
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, (1974)
Metal Gear (THE MSX game which you think I've never heard of), (1995)
Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake (The second MSX game which you think I've never heard of), (1999)
Metal Gear Solid, (2005)
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, (2007 & 2009) (Tanker & Big Shell Chapters respectively.)
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, (2014)

That is the series in order chronological in terms of story.

As for the order in which they were RELEASED.

Metal Gear (MSX) (1987)
Metal Gear 2 (MSX) (1990)
Metal Gear Solid (1998)
Metal Gear Solid 2 (2001)
Metal Gear Solid 3 (2004)
Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops (2006)
Metal Gear Solid 4 (2008)
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (2010)
Metal Gear Solid: Rising (2012)

I_find_it_funny4711d ago

even Kojima doesnt know the order

49erguy4711d ago

@BurnedMan

That's the order in which they were released, not the order of the story.

Kudos for including the old NES and PSX versions though.

creamsoda4711d ago

LOL don't worry Metal Gear Solid confuses everybody from time to time.

CaptainMarvelQ84711d ago

so you guys mean that all the part's will be in this collection, right?
and Thanks

sikbeta4711d ago

Everyone wants an HD version of MGS, but it'll not work, it's a PS1 game, how much improvement would have? I don't think much, unless Koji-Pro re-work on it to make it better, but if that's the case, better start from scratch and do REMAKE, MGS:TS is a good game, but it's not a proper remake, it wasn't even made by Kojima :P

Yi-Long4711d ago

... they could do a HD version of the Cube-release of MGS1.

Ocelot5254711d ago

MGS(PS1) will be included as download code:

※ METAL GEAR SOLID 2 SONS OF LIBERTY (year 2001), METAL GEAR SOLID 3 SNAKE EATER (2004) recorded
※ METAL GEAR SOLID (Gemuakaibusu Edition) Includes product code (PS3 ® version only)
※ This portable game software, PS3 ® transfer between the rings (save data sharing) will be implemented
※ PlayStation ® Store, Xbox Live ® ARCADE download sales will be in

NarooN4711d ago

A PS1 upscaled to 720p or 1080p won't make it magically look good -- in fact, it'd look much much worse. Those super-low res textures and simple polygons would look like a joke in an HD resolution.

They'd have to re-do pretty much all the textures and models from scratch, and that'd basically be enough work for a whole new game.

Like some have suggested, a Twin Snakes port would've been decent, but I think that game is owned by Nintendo, so KP most likely didn't see it worth it to buy it from them just to put it in an HD collection.

darkdoom30004710d ago

So much confusion. lol. good job hoof. I thought the timeline was pretty easy to follow.

Also, with this collection; I will have nearly every cannon MGS game on my ps3.

MGS2,3,PW on collection
MGS1 via psn
MGS4 via bluray
MG1 & MG2 via collection in sustinance/snake eater

the only one missing would be portable ops. I have it on PSP though. It's not too intergal to the story, only having a couple of things that effect the cannon.

jony_dols4709d ago

Most people here are forgetting that MGS Portable Ops also had a decent storyline that tied in with the series canon.

It chartered the beginning of Naked Snake's defection, and it had the same comic book style cutscenes as PW.

Slightly repetitive at times, but it was a true MGS with all the stealth & action mechanics that we love from the series.

Istanbull4711d ago

Lol this is a rumour they started themselves, are you surprised if the online of MGS3 is not in the Collection? Are the actual servers still open?

JAMurida4711d ago

Makes no sense that MGS 1 isn't in the collection if the collection itself is true.

darkdoom30004710d ago

I heard the jpn version includes the download voucher for MGS1. I hope/suspect it's the same situation worldwide (PS3 version ofcourse)

Slugg3r4711d ago

I'll be sad if the MGO1 won't come with the game. It was the only true online MGS among MPO's online. Those of MGS4 and PW just didn't have the original feel, they just felt like regular TPS with some MGS elements

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection - Preparing for Snake Eater Remake

The Metal Gear Solid HD Collection launched in 2011, and is still the best way to play Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater ahead of the remake.

contra157316d ago (Edited 316d ago )

Can’t wait to one day break that game out of the collection vault

aaronaton315d ago

Currently playing Snake Eater HD on CRT 16:9, via Scart RGB. Game looks great but not as clean as MGS2, but thats due to the setting. Can't wait for the remake + the next HD collection on PS5.

Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 to be temporarily removed from digital storefronts starting November 8

Konami will temporarily remove Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3 from digital storefronts starting November 8 as it works to renew the licenses for select historical archive footage used in each game, the company announced.

Orchard900d ago

To be honest, I’m surprised Konami are even considering re-listing this given how they’ve abandoned their franchises and fans.

Maybe temporarily will become permanently.

VersusDMC900d ago

They definitely won't relist the games on the pretty much dead platforms they were on. If they go through hassle of changing all the cutscenes it will be to release a PS/Xbox/Switch collection on current systems.

Eonjay899d ago (Edited 899d ago )

Out of curioisity, why isn't historical footage a part of the public domain?

VersusDMC899d ago

According to Google anything before 1924 and anything that wasn't copyrighted 5 years after being publised is fair game.

Maybe the historical footage used in the MGS games might have new copyright owners and they are knocking on the doors of whoever is using that footage for a paycheck.

Maybe that's what happened because of what happened with writers suing Movie studios for rights to old IP like terminator, Beetlejuice and Friday the 13th due to an old copyright law that grants authors rights to their work after 35 years. Maybe that's what happened to the copyright of the old footage as well?

Or they are just negotiating with the original copyright owners? Maybe this is a ploy to get it for cheaper? Bluff that they will just take the games down for a cheaper licence price?

Who knows...

jznrpg899d ago

If they didn’t have plans to rerelease them they would just say they aren’t coming back . They may not release them again if whoever owns the copyrights are greedy but it would seem they are putting some effort into it otherwise they would say buy it now or else that would make them more $ now . I could be wrong but that makes sense to me .

TheEnigma313900d ago

This is exactly why i love physical media

Orchard900d ago (Edited 900d ago )

Well, in this case, describing it as a digital vs physical problem may not be too accurate.

If you already purchased it digitally, you'll still be able to download it and play any time - and if I want to go buy it digitally, I still can today, whereas I probably can't find a physical copy of it in Walmart or wherever.

blackblades900d ago

True as long as you bought something before it get delisted you'll still be able to play them. All the physical vs digital is nonesense now and getting old. You get screwed from both at the end of the day if everything goes down. Physical will have all the bugs because they need the 1st day patches and then some. About most dlc needs downloading so you screwed outta complete edition. I still dont see Sony or MS going anywhere in the next 100 years.

MadLad900d ago

People on here find literally every excuse they can to state just how much better and future proof physical games are over digital.

Funny, being I can play every single one of my almost 1000 steam games with no issue. And, even when the store eventually shutters, they have systems in place I can still back up all my games.

What am I supposed to do when my console, and even the discs it runs, break down? I mean, I can rebuy them, but that just means I had to pay twice for a game, and probably now at collector prices. Doesn't sound very future proof to me.

blackblades900d ago

@TheRealTedCruz
That already happened to me on ps2. My stuff got stolen, I had to rebuy some of the games with allowances. Some games were nich I couldnt find them again.

BISHOP-BRASIL899d ago

@blackblades

We don't even need to loose the games in anyway for physical media reliability to be put to test, disc rot is a thing.

IamFrasierCrane900d ago

This doesn’t affect anyone who has already purchased the game digitally.

GhostofHorizon900d ago (Edited 900d ago )

Just started MGS 3 over the weekend.
Wouldn't have affected me since I bought the collection a long time ago.

I'm more interested in the fact that they have to re-license historical footage constantly. At what point is it not worth it anymore? I can't imagine a lot of people are buying MGS Collection.

isarai900d ago

Dat all digital future 👌

Sephiroushin900d ago

What? You got it you can still play it just like if you got a physical copy of the game ...

FanboysKiller899d ago

How to get engaged with 2s story ? , can't get through the ship without quiting the game literally since forever.
