Edge: When Islands of Wakfu opens with its heroine Nora – a cutesy, anime-looking warrior girl with hair the shade of cotton candy – waking from a nap in a grassy clearing, the spectre of apocalypse couldn’t possibly feel more remote. This initial frame offers a dramatic introduction to the game’s visuals, its most remarkable achievement, segueing from monochromatic sepia into impossibly vivid greens and reds. These shades look as rich as wet paint smeared fresh on the canvas. Though the game maintains its vibrant colour palette throughout, such serenity will be ruptured shortly by invaders hungry to mine the world for its precious natural resource, wakfu.
Islands of wakfu is an Xbox Live acrade spinoff game to the MMORPG Wakfu and Dofus, developed and published by Ankama Play, so it already has it's fan base that will probably be buying this prequel to those games they love. The story in Islands Of Wakfu is set 10,000 years before "DOFUS" (a MMORPG set in the same universe), its the end of the world and the last Eliathrope sets off with her brother (A dragon) to find the mythical islands of Wakfu to survive the threat looming over the world and to try and preserve the remains of their civilisation.
Islands of Wakfu is an action/adventure game set in the universe of the world-famous DOFUS and WAKFU MMORPGs. Gameplay revolves around the complementarity between the two principal characters: Nora, the young Eliatrope, and her brother dragon, Efrim. Nora is a close combat fighter, relying on her fists, feet, combos, and dimensional powers. Efrim is a long-distance shooter who is able to fly.
They breathe the Wakfu in and out, bloom Wakfu flowers, and harvest Wakfu honey that can be used to buy upgrades for both characters.
Islands of Wakfu has received an important update, which offers in particular new difficulty modes and the possibility to unlock items in the MMORPG.
