Fallout: New Vegas Review (PlanetXbox360)

The narrator at the beginning of Fallout: New Vegas exclaims “War, war never changes.” The same can be said for the new era of Fallout games. Obsidian, the developer behind New Vegas has followed in Bethesda's exact footsteps in creating the next Fallout. If you come to New Vegas looking for a radically different experience than Fallout 3, you'll be disappointed. But for those want more of the same Fallout goodness, look no further, New Vegas will be your home for the next 200 plus hours. New Vegas begins much in the way as it's Fallout 3 brethren began, but with a rebirth so-to-speak. Once you're up an running it's business as usual as the people of Goodsprings need your help getting things done for them. Like before the people of the wasteland here have problems and need help from a bad ass wanderer like you.

Can't agree more, the game is great, not as good as Fallout 3 but def worth playing - I'm gonna finish it up when I get home from Canada, great review!

How is it not as good, its the same exact game with a few additions added to it.....

EDIT: Quick question.....WTF is TGSI?

kaveti66164938d ago

That's exactly why it's not as good. If you write the same book that somebody else wrote and was praised for, why should your book get the same rating?

It's one of the many things I hate about Obsidian. You can really see whether or not they are talented by checking out their own IPs, such as Alpha Protocol.

Obsidian is responsible for developing sequels for two very successful IPs. The first one is Knights of the Old Republic, and the second is New Vegas.

In both cases, the sequel that Obsidian developed used the same engine as the original, with little to no graphical or technical improvements.

Obsidian used all the same assets and wrote a very "safe" story. By safe I mean they don't take chances. They just write a predictable story in order to guide the player through similar missions and levels that exist in the original game.

What does this tell you about Obsidian as a developer? They're a B team. No, worse. They're not very creative people. They're afraid to take risks. After Alpha Protocol, I don't see Obsidian making any new original IPs.

That's why I don't like Oblivion. Say what you want about Bioware and Bethesda, but they're not afraid to take risks. Only when they have to hand their precious work off to Obsidian do they actually impose limits upon those 'less than zero' fools. Obsidian hasn't even tried to fix the glitches and improve the PS3 version of New Vegas. And I know this because they respond very awkwardly when asked about it. The lead developer also tenses up and sweats when asked about graphical updates.

The only saving grace New Vegas will have is the first person shooting (outside of VATS) has been improved to actually work. In Fallout 3 I relied heavily on VATS because first person shooting was difficult.

That's it. Fallout New Vegas looks as if it could have been DLC

It doesn't deserve a 10/10 because it's hardly an improvement over a 2 year old game. It's not right for Obsidian to do this. People actually think they're good developers because their sequels to popular games get decent reviews. They don't actually know that Obsidian is a leech.

MidnytRain4938d ago

I don't even know. I googled it and even searched Urban Dictionary and still couldn't find its meaning.

MidnytRain4938d ago (Edited 4938d ago )

Sorry for the DP. LOUSY PS3 BROWSER

niceguywii604938d ago (Edited 4938d ago )

So the game with added content is worse?

EDIT

I see so if ME2 came out with added content it will be scored worse. GOTCH

aPerson4938d ago (Edited 4938d ago )

While it might be a good game, it copies, but does nothing to surpass Fallout 3. That's why it's not as good.

To T9X69 and others above about TGSI:

It means "The Genius Said It" according to him. Another TGSI may be "This Guy Said It"

I caught it when someone asked before.

On Topic:

I probably won't buy it for the consoles. I'll go for the PC version. If I don't like, hopefully mods will bring me back later. And I see the engine hasn't been customized at all, so I also believe Obsidian aren't as great as they're to be.

T9X694938d ago

Thank you! It's been getting on my nerves that I didn't know what that meant hahahah.

Yea if you have a PC that could run it that would be the smart choice. I'm not lucky enough to have one, and probably never will because I don't really like PC gaming. I never really cared to much for Obsidian to be honest.

TGSI

I liked it too, not as good as Fallout 3 but still a fun game, setting was a blast...

Chuk54938d ago (Edited 4938d ago )

Replay 7.8, really?
I'm not one to nit pick a great score but if graphics got an 8.8, how did replay get less than an 8?

MidnytRain4938d ago

From what I've read, it's probably because there's no option to screw around or explore once you beat the game, which makes me wonder how the DLC will work. This also means you might want to find a way to know when the game is about to end so you can go do things you missed before getting "locked out" of the game.

mugoldeneagle034938d ago

Yeah but SPOILERS:
***************************** ********************
You can't it Fallout 3 either, am I right? In my 2 saves I played I died at the end each time, and it wasn't until The Pitt that allowed you to restart from the ending? Or one of the DLCs.
***************************** ********************

I could be wrong though

mugoldeneagle034938d ago

If anything, the best thing about the Fallout series is the ability to replay it at least once. Yet it scored less than graphics.

Can't wait for this game. Just got my e-mail from Amazon saying it shipped :) 5 o'clock isn't coming fast enough!

Skrams4938d ago

Another giant open world and more good quests are enough for me. Although not being able to keep playing the main story after the end makes me sad like Fallout 3. Thats one of the main reasons I never did the main story in Fallout 3 until I had nothing left to do.

alee4938d ago

I haven't played any of the Fallout games yet, but this sounds like a fun, if flawed game.

Fallout Anthology Edition Looks Pretty S.P.E.C.I.A.L.

The Fallout Anthology Edition is coming to PC very soon, and is packaged with some very S.P.E.C.I.A.L. bonuses.

Fallout: New Vegas Is A Mojave Marvel

James at HPP writes: "Swapping out a nuclear Washington DC for a rechristened Las Vegas known as New Vegas, this Obsidian Entertainment-developed sequel propels the hallmarks of Fallout 3 to greater heights, thus becoming the ultimate progenitor."
