Virgin Comics' Ramayan 3392 A.D., initially released as a comic in late 2006, re-imagines one of India's greatest epics into a futuristic realm. This MMO is based on Ramayan's story of mythological lore, allowing gamers to experience the storyline in a brand new way through a game that remains true to the comic but also retells the story with exciting new variations and massively-multiplayer progression to surprise followers and enthrall new fans. Check out the new Art.
Continuing MMO Week on GamesIndustry.biz is a wide-ranging and in-depth interview with one of the most influential figures in the genre, worldwide - as president of Sony Online Entertainment, John Smedley is responsible for a large number of key MMO titles, including the Everquest games and Star Wars: Galaxies.
The company's experienced mixed fortunes with some of its titles more recently, but with titles in development such as The Agency for the PlayStation 3 and another title in development for the Indian market based on the Ramayan 3392 AD comic, there's a lot more yet to come.
Q: How is work coming along on the PS3 titles?
John Smedley: Work's coming along great - we've been very careful to keep our games playable as much as possible all the time. We're using the Unreal 3 engine for DC and Agency, and because of that we're a long way along on those titles.
Sony Online Entertainment has been responsible for some of the most popular MMO games ever. The studio behind Everquest (1 and 2), Planetside, Vanguard and a host of other massively multiplayer games has recently unveiled a new lineup of titles, including Gods & Heroes, The Agency, Free Realms, and the just-announced Ramayan 3392 A.D (see above image). Though only The Agency has been announced for the PlayStation 3, Nicholas Beliaeff recently tossed a bucket of gasoline on the rumor fire that we may be getting a couple more massively massive games on the PS3.
Im really happy to see all these MMO games going to the PS3, how come none of these MMO go to the 360? is it because the system cant handle them or something? anyone cant wait to play THE AGENCY might get it on day one dependsing on the review it gets.
Nice to see I can get back into an MMO with my PS3 (last one was AC) and only have to pay for the MMO's fee and not live on top of it.
it was just some questions thats all man take it easy, you have a stick up your ass for real.
In a bid to find the spark of individuality that could see the creation of the 'next big MMO' phenomenon, Sony Online Entertainment have teamed up with Virgin Comics to create a new MMO based on the Ramayan 3392 AD comic, which takes its inspiration from the ancient Indian poem the Ramayana.
The comic is set in a post-apocalyptic world, where Rama battles with the demon lord Ravan. Rama is the incarnation of god Vishnu. Sony hope by using this rich source material to craft a unique MMO, they can offer a compelling alternative to the myriad of Tolkienesque MMOs presently available.
l o l, the day SOE makes a good MMO is the day something rare happens.
NOTE- I am not bashing the rest of Sony, SOE on the other hand is a freaking joke and a peice of trash that just scoops up MMO's.
SOE will never make a WoW
But now that they are bringing this kind of thing to consoles, I'll surely try it. Online gaming is becoming a big part of gaming and it sure beats online fragging.
Anyway, I'm always excited about new games with potential.
I think ps3 allready have good MMO support with NCSOFT and Sony Online Entertainment.
first i see some barbarian characters then medieval knights and then sci-fi type ships... looks interesting =)
The artworks look pretty kool. Hopefully, the game can match this.
Too Human: India Online Edition, except people still "revere" the .... instead of dead ones in TH
[edit] I am saying the norse "gods" are pretty "dead" with people, but that is not the case those in this game and fundies exist in India.
He said its SOE so don't expect to much
Someone's going to think this game is a new Rayman game.
XD
