i'm kinda lost is it 13 rallies ( meaning 3 races * 13 )+ 6 specials
or is it 13 + 6 ?

PirateThom5016d ago

13 different "locales" with 6 "courses" each... so it's pretty much "13 x 6".

Special stage just means "course" in rally terms.

lol, all I know is that WRC in GT5 is gonna blow this to smithereens.

foss35016d ago

I'd love to believe this but no GT in the past has had even close to a proper rally mode... just dirt circuit courses and hill climb. No 16 stage rally, no career mode and far from the proper damage modeling compared to what WRC has on the PS2.

Personally rally in Gran Turismo has been kind of an aftersight. The cars always controlled like they were just pivoting on their center axis and it never really felt like the car was connected to the road as it did in WRC.

That said I know GT5 is going to be major and I wouldn't be surprised to see a full rally mode. HOWEVER I haven't heard or read anything about that so if someone can fill us in? Otherwise I guess we'll see.

Since this is coming out before GT5, I'll more than likely be picking up WRC. (And GT5)

WRC in GT5 wont blow this to smithereens IMO. GT5 wont have many rally courses, this game has loads. Plus this game is built just for rally, GT5 is lots of different types of racing.
Just for a rally game WRC is the one to get, but for general racing nothing can beat GT5 IMO.
Love playing rally racing games with steering wheel and foot pedals. Its way better than using a game pad.

WRC FIA World Rally Championship 3 PS3 Review (GamingBolt)

"Ah, rallying. The pinnacle of all motorsports, the one that, above all others, tests the driver's skill more than it tests the machine, challenging his navigational skills, his endurance, his improvisational skills, and of course, his pure driving mettle.

It's essentially the most challenging form of motorsport, which is why it's kind of surprising how it has not yet been adapted into a proper video games, especially since racing video games of all forms are dime a dozen, and since the format lends itself particularly well to video games in general."

GK | WRC 2: FIA World Rally Championship Review

WRC 2 lives and breathes for old school rallying. Traditional A-B stages dominate, with a few Super Special Stage duels thrown in for good measure. All the big names like Sebastien Loeb, Petter Solberg and Mikko Hirvonen are here along with their official WRC rides. The lower rally leagues and the infamous Group B cars are also present. You can race individual rallies with the stars straight away, or embark on the lengthy career mode, The Road to the WRC.

The Reticule - Trying To Find A Real Rally Game

Rally games like DiRT 3 are all well and good, but what do you have to do if you want to experience life like on the real World Rally Championship with long brutal stages and more than eight stages to an event. Stopping off at WRC, DiRT 1 and Colin McRae 05, is there still a real rally game out there? Chris Evans thinks so.

I am with the writer 100%. Network Q rally from 1996 had the proper rally feel. I only wish someone would take that game and only update the graphics, sound and current stage setups. I find all the new rally games rather casual-gamer. In Network Q, there was rain, lightening, varying surfuces and grip, cars accumilated dirt pretty much forever till you ended the stage, damage etc. It was the real deal!

Chris Evans4710d ago

Oh yes, to have a game that brings the feel of Network Q into an up to date engine would be immense. It wouldn't necessarily have to have all the nations on the WRC, keep it simple with the GB rally, get all the stages in, make them feel real and intense. Sorted.

I'm sure there must be an audience for that kind of rally game still.

GMWPS34706d ago

I agree and hope someone will do it. Rather than trying to make the most money posible against every other game, they should try to make the best rally game possible and secure a loyal 'hardcore' following then the money will follow.

Chris Evans4705d ago

They should GMWPS3, DiRT is fun and all and is going to sell brilliantly all the time, that is the nature of the game. But there is surely an audience still out there for a 'proper' rally game. I would snap it up in an instant. I just wish WRC had worked out better than it did, it had such a great idea, it was just a shame they couldn't fulfill the potential.

Perjoss4710d ago

also, I know DiRT 1 didn't have the best handling but this was an amazing stage :)

Chris Evans4705d ago

Yea the DiRT handling wasn't the best, but it did have some really good rally stages, I remember the Japanese ones, flying down those mountains in the wet in a powerful C4 was quite an experience.
