Is Sucker Punch Next To Embrace Xbox 360?

GT: Things are happening quickly in this industry and competition is becoming stiff. Games are becoming more expensive to develop and independent studios, big and small are looking for partners to help fund their “big” projects while retaining the Intellectual Property and at the same time reach a wider audience.

well no1 owns them so it could happen

Brewski0075085d ago

If they do go multi-plat they'll most likely create the games on the ps3 base and much like ffxiii the port to the 360 will not look as good.
I dont really mind as long as I get to still play the games on my ps3.

ShakeShakeShake5085d ago

Why is there so many articles about Ps3 games/game developers making games for Xbox 360?

If Xbox fans want ps3 games so bad go out and buy one!!!

HolyOrangeCows5085d ago

Ahh, it's a gamesthrist article that's praying for PS3 developers on the 360. Shocker.

BannedForNineYears5085d ago

Anything's possible, especially now adays since there's no reason to be developing exclusively.

Dude4205085d ago

"Why is there so many articles about Ps3 games/game developers making games for Xbox 360?"

Maybe it's a counter for articles like "Hints that Mass Effect is coming to the PS3" or "Will X game be ported to PS3 due to lack of sales?"

From the article: "Will inFamous come to the Xbox 360? Most likely not, the game’s a Sony owned IP."

How can they honestly write something like that? "Most likely not"? They even acknowledge that the property is owned by Sony. That means it's not unlikely to happen. It won't happen. Simple as that.

alaa5085d ago

Callahan, that's why it says SUCKER PUNCH and not inFamous will embrace the Xbox 360.

SOAD5085d ago

Poor journalism, my friend.

SaberEdge5085d ago (Edited 5085d ago )

@ callahan09

Well, I agree that it is highly unlikely for Infamous to go to any other console, but it's not impossible. If Sucker Punch was purchased by a big publisher and they asked Sony if they could buy the rights to the Infamous IP and Sony agreed then yes, it could happen. Highly unlikely, as I said, but not impossible.

As far as Sucker Punch going multi-platform, I'd say that it is most likely a matter of time, unless Sony buys them.

CernaML5085d ago

Because I'm sure there are already too many PS3 exclusives you people are begging for. :P

SPARTANVI5085d ago

Article is poorly written.

"Just like Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid amongst others did, they two will find their way on other consoles."

They "too" not "two," and "find their way on other consoles?" Like on top of other consoles? Meant "on to," probably. Then there are numerous run-on sentences, misuse of the comma, trite phrases/cliches, and simply weak journalism.

sikbeta5085d ago

Guys, AGAIN:

"Will [inFamous] come to the »Xbox 360«?"

and then

"[Most likely not], the game’s a »Sony owned IP«."

Don't you get it? it's like saying:

"will [Halo] come to the »PS3«?, [Most likely not], the game is a »MS owned IP«"

This is not Journalism, this is a JOKE!

Megaton5085d ago (Edited 5085d ago )

It's GameThirst. When they're not trying to steal GameTrailers' acronyms (GameThirst even claims they have something called GTTV), their site is either infected with malware or just crappy articles. Sometimes both.

jjohan355085d ago

Obviously you did not read the actual article. How typical. Callahan09 quoted directly from it, not from the title.

edgeofblade5084d ago

Wait. Who said that Infamous is a Sony owned property? Was Crash Bandicoot? They were published by Sony at first too, but now it's available on other platforms...

LordMarius5085d ago (Edited 5085d ago )

Not atm, they are too small to branch out, they rely on Sony for their funding, nice try but no...

Edit: Since they are small it wouldnt make sense to split their workforce into working on both consoles.

SOAD5085d ago

Microsoft funds a lot of small studios, but usually on the condition that they make their games exclusive to the 360.

DelbertGrady5085d ago

Insomniac and Bioware got funded by EA. I don't see why Sucker Punch couldn't also get funded by some big publisher like that.

sikbeta5085d ago (Edited 5085d ago )

Well, Sucker Punch known IPs are OWNED by Sony, so if they go multiplat they'll start from scratch, MS can't fund Sucker Punch cos Sony is Already doing that, Sony make Contracts with Devs for Publishing the Franchises not just one Game, so atm, sure there is a deal in which Sucker Punch have to continue with the Production of the Infamous IP...

Edit:

There was a Rumor of Sony that broke the Deal they Have with Ninja Theory for 3 Games of HS cos of "Wrong Management", seems like [N-T] went over-budget with the First game and spent the money for the Whole Development funds...

RememberThe3575085d ago

I think his point is that since the team is small, they can only work on one game at a time. BioWare is owned by EA and Insomniac is a big ass developers. They can both work on multiple games at one time. Sucker Punch can't and that is what he is saying. If they want to go multi-platform they would need to cut ties with Sony all together, something that Insomniac doesn't need to do.

Jazz41085085d ago

Infamous was a horrible game and I do own a ps3 I'm just not a fanboy of either. That said please don't port it.

Whoa I didn't even realize Sucker Punch isn't owned by Sony??

inFamous is owned by Sony, but it'd definitely be interesting if they jumped ship too. Sony has always said Third party (and to a lesser extent second party) were not reliable/a thing of the past.

I wonder if they will buy them out. Not sure if SP has ever expressed their need for independence.

Anyways, Sucker Punch is cool. Personally I want an inFamous 2 at E3.

@Black

Yeah the demo was fun. Are you the same BlackTar from my friends list? Lol.

BlackTar1875085d ago

is one of my favorite honestly if no twisted metal black then i need infamous. Seriously was a huge surprise and proba #2 on favorite agmes this gen behind MGS4 and right before Battlestations midway(Great great great game once you get over the learning curve)

Double Toasted5085d ago

When I think of games on other platforms besides the 360, I compare them to whats already there. I'm sure Infamous going multi-plat(I know it won't, I'm speaking hypothetically) would be lucrative, but it has quite a roadblock by the name of Crackdown 2. The only game I think 360 owners should try and would welcome would be Folklore. Folklore is an awesome game, it needed that advertisement that only MS could make happen. But alas, its Sony's and I doubt if there will ever be a sequel.

nycredude5085d ago

You really think Folklore would do well on 360. No fvcking chance. It's way too japanese and niche and also it's an rpg. Great game no doubt but I don't see that type of game doing well on the 360.

palaeomerus5085d ago (Edited 5085d ago )

Folklore didn't do that well on the PS3 either. It's a niche title. I agree that it's awesome but then so is Disgaea and Settlers of Catan.

edhe5084d ago

Is that niche or crap?

D4RkNIKON5085d ago

Studios seem to be going multiplat on both ends. IE Bungie and Insomniac. Good thing Sony has over 20 First Party studios ;)

kaos_fish II5085d ago

Who says any studio that goes multi automatically is going to do something for the 360?.. hell of lot more Wii's out there and god, do they need the games.

edhe5084d ago

2nd party studios - not own but being exclusive.

Jamie Foxx5085d ago (Edited 5085d ago )

could cross over to other platforms as epic owns the gears IP,business is business which is why a huge first party portfolio for any gaming company is necessity.

i will not be surprised if mass effect is announced at e3 for ps3

i do think sony should acquire sucker punch though to add to their bulging first party portfolio

Cueil5085d ago

The first one was published on consoles by Microsoft... there is also rumors of a deal with Bioware... Bioware and Microsoft were very close before EA purchased them. It wouldn't surprise me if we see spin offs on the PS3 or games after the trilogy is finished... like a prequel.

edhe5084d ago

Anyone can go anywhere, and it's silly to limit your product to any fraction of the market.

And at this stage in the console 'race' it's hardly about unit-sellers is it? It's about giving gamers what they want.

And what they want is everything they can get their hands on that's worth it. Platform exclusivity's not really a good thing this deep into the cycle.

When the next gen rolls around and the projected sales are likely to be thin yet the games still cost as much to be made then yeah, feel free to sell up shares in a franchise for exclusivity then.

FACTUAL evidence5085d ago

I like how all the speculations start to pour in after ONE company went multi-plat. Not saying that it's not possible for suckerpunch to go Multi, but seriously.

Lombax5085d ago

Everybody wants Sonys Devs. xD

palaeomerus5085d ago

Well if Suckerpunch is with THQ partners that's a pretty good indication that they do intend some form of multiplatform development. It might be for 3dS or Wii or PC or 360 or iPhone, or all of those. Who knows?

vhero5085d ago

Wow somebody's after hits today aren't they?? Just because insomnia made that deal now everybody gonna do it?? Shoddy, just shoddy...

raztad5085d ago (Edited 5085d ago )

Contrary to Insomniac I find HIGHLY UNLIKELY SP is doing anything more than just PS3 exclusives.

SP is a small studio capable of working on one IP at a time. That IP was Sly Cooper during PS2 age and now is inFAMOUS (Sony property) turn. Speaking of which, received lot of help from other first party devels to get in shape.

Immortal Kaim5085d ago

After more of this sh*t from Gamesthirst, can we please start reporting their articles? They are nothing but flamebait rubbish...

Game13a13y5085d ago

its possible, but its also a bad thing. afterall, who wants gimped games?

AAACE55085d ago

Well if they do, it could be what Sony meant when they said console exclusivity was dying off!

N4BmpS5085d ago

This was a random, poor piece of journalism, seriously. I notice that ever since Insomniac decided to make a Multi-platform game, people have become more misinformed (even though they were given crystal clear info). "Journalist" doing more speculating than actual thinking. Granted Sucker Punch is Independent (although I thought Sony owned them...interesting)so who knows where they might go, Sony could snag them if they want.

Christopher5085d ago

Woo hoo! Rampant speculation! All because one second-party company is finally making a game using their own IP!

Weeee!

/sarcasm

Sorry people, by how about we try to reign it in a bit with going off the deep end on these type of 'what if?' articles.

tinybigman5085d ago

what's with all the interest in developers who developed exclusive for sony all of a sudden? i thought they all sucked a$$ according to some people lol.

well since we know infamous ip is owned by sony, and SP decided to do a new ip for multi it would a new ip they that would own.

The amount of 360 consoles sold and owned wont matter much soon now with Sony catching up and all....

SuperStrokey11235085d ago

Of course it will still matter, would you (as a company of course, so just think fiscally and no fanboy hats here guys) rather sell the same game to 40 million consoles for 80 million?

Obviously 80 million is a better market.

Pedantic915085d ago (Edited 5085d ago )

Why do you all think going multi would automatically mean 80+ mill sales ? It isn't always like that.

Some devs are simply meant to be on one platform.
The age of exclusitivity is over ? pfft, hell no.

And yes, to answer your question, i would rather sell the game for 40 million consoles, you never know, it might do better on one platform than the other.

SuperStrokey11235085d ago (Edited 5085d ago )

I never said it would, what i said is that if you have a chance to 40 million unit thats great for sure. But if you have a chance to sell to 80 million units, including the original 40 million, thats even better. Its not rocket science from a financial point of view.

Sure i agree that some devs want to stay single dev but its because of reasons like company relationships, more powerful system, better online, long term goals, familiarity with the system and a huge list of other things. But its fairly obvious that having the opportunity to sell to the original 40 million plus 40 million more is obviously a good thing.

I dont understand your logic as you would still be selling to the same 40 million plus 40 more. A dev should be embracing this instead of fighting unless it is for one of the reasons i listed above.

whitesoxfalife5085d ago (Edited 5085d ago )

@pedrami91

do u know what you are saying in here lol.......if my game was only selling let say 800k on ps3 and the install is what almost 35mil right now from the ps3 camp im not making no money at all but if i go multi plat at least one time where the 360 has only a few million gamers more than ps3 has .. and i manage to sell at least sell 2mill on the 360 not only did i just match what the ps3 owners but i also got an extra 1.2mill sold from them... not only this help my game get a sequal out of me but because i went multi plat i can pay for the multi plat game development cost or just go to being one console again but why do that when the money is good..... the gamers win all day..... just like street hustling only a different product wit a different set of rules

thewhoopimen5085d ago

In that case why would i waste time making a title for the 360 and not just for the jugular with the Wii? Your reasoning is faulty.

The Meerkat5085d ago

Even if they were the same.

i.e. 50 million

50 + 50 = 100 million customers (minus mutilple console owners who would normally side with the 360 anyway)
Which is much better than just 50.

SuperStrokey11235085d ago

100% agree, i dont see why anyone could disagree with this. Sure you may hate the opposing system but how can you deny that a market that is 2x the size would be a worse market.

BlackTar1875085d ago

minus mutilple console owners who would normally side with the 360 anyway

that is all opinion some games sell better on ps some don't. that's not fact so therefore is all opinion. I own all consoles and i buy on ps3 for the most part because i love trophies and a screen tear while im playing doesn't ruin the exp. and a little drop in graphic here and there while playing a game in full speed does not deter my game play exp. i will never pretend to understand people who pick a version based on something you can barely notice while playing a game unless you specifically looking for it. Im not saying that line of thought is wrong just confusing to me and if your pixel counting for your enjoyment to me that's kinda sad. anyways i respect your opinioni just dont agree with such a broad statement

nveenio5085d ago

The problem is that you don't know how many people have both consoles. I'd bet it's waaaaay up there. Bottom line is that they have to know that they're going to sell X number of more copies since it's going to cost them Y amount more to do a port.

Caffo015085d ago

you guys forgot that porting a game from a platform to another has its costs and for this reason it's risky to do it unless you are sure your game will sell well..

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 5085d ago
vhero5085d ago

Yeah but lowering the quality of your game for multiplatform could seriously impact the games sales and it could sell a lot less on 2 consoles than it would on just 1. It's all about good business.. Uncharted 2 for instance probably wouldn't have sold as many copies if it was a multiplatform game as it wouldn't have the quality thanks to being on both consoles. Games like FF have the name to back it up but Uncharted is still a relatively new IP.

maniacmayhem5085d ago

Why would a multi plat game be lower in quality? Uncharted 2 would have been great regardless if it was multiplat or not. And using FF as an example is poor, very poor. Or do you actually believe FF is bad due to it being on the 360?

Or did I just get tricked into responding to a stealth ninja troll...

Damn...

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

ChasterMies2d ago

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

just_looken2d ago

Here here

Those that were around before 2000's i am sure are like me that think we entered a world of non readers or those that follow without question.

I can not wait to see fallout 3 a goty game even though it was about water with non content until you add the dlc/updates then you got the performance/crashing

CrimsonWing692d ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker2d ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing692d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt2d ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

just_looken2d ago

It still amazes me we got over 7 rockstar games ps2/ps3 but 3 for the ps3/ps4/ps5

Dragon age 1-3 and mass effect 1-3 in 7ish years what a generation.

6 Fun Games Where You Actually Play As The Bad Guy

While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.

Profchaos3d ago

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Tacoboto3d ago

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).

ChasterMies2d ago

Trevor in GTA 6 is a sadist and psychopath who dabbles in cannibalism. Should be top of the list. These game “news” sites should hire people that know games.
