An open letter: Dear Remedy, I hate you

Remedy Entertainment, you were once one of Bobby Miller's favorite game developers. Now, you've kicked him in the gut and spit on his face. It's over.

Boo f#$king hoo, cry me a river. So a game you want isn't on PC. A lot of games aren't on PC.

UPSLynx5142d ago

You clearly don't know what it's like. You've never experienced heart break. You've never experienced the ultimate disappointment. Life isn't casual.

ElementX5141d ago (Edited 5141d ago )

I've experienced heart break, when I saw the price of the launch PS3 and when I had to sell my 360 for rent money.

UPSLynx5142d ago

I think you mean GotY 2011. You could be right.

@ps360owner09 "Also if anything the author of this article should be directing their hate at microsoft not Remedy"

So i guess we also should be directing our hate to Sony and Nintendo for keeping their exclusives in their consoles and not releasing them for PC ???

What's the big deal? If you want to play the game buy a X360, just as if you want to play God of War 3, buy a PS3. Just because Remedy are releasing it exclusive to X360, they are getting a lot of hate. There are a lot of 3rd party developers releasing exclusives for the PS3, and i don't see this hate.

There's a lot of hate and crap that's going on against X360 developers and games... Remedy, Valve, Ubi for Splinter Cell, among others...

Get a X360, PC and PS3 like me... then play any game you want and don't sob about it.

PS: I LOL every time i remember the petition against Final Fantasy 13 being released on the X360... LOL... sad, sad people. I would LOL even more if, i say again, IF Final Fantasy 13 Versus is released on the X360... probably won't be, but i would LOL so much if it was released.

Nishka Fa Fa La Boo5141d ago

They just want it on PC so they can easily pirate the game. It's not hard to pirate a single player PC game.

Kratos Spartan5141d ago

people were calling GOW3 GOTY before it was released. While I don't agree with Alan Wake being game of the year, people are entitled to their opinion.

Tony P5141d ago

Funny article. Extra points for the pics if they're original.

I was annoyed at first, but it's long subsided. Probably because I'm not a huge fan of Remedy.

It's not like I don't understand the annoyance though. Obviously, MS needed more exclusives. But how about saying it's exclusive initially?

Don't change your mind halfway through development and make Remedy fish for bullsh*t excuses like "it needs to be played on a big ol' TV!" *rolls eyes*

5141d ago
Raf1k15141d ago

It's not exactly hard to pirate a 360 game either.

Megaton5141d ago (Edited 5141d ago )

No, it's not like God of War, Mario or Halo. Fact is, for a long time Alan Wake was a multiplat. They (Microsoft, apparently) canceled it for PC. There's a difference between only having one platform from the start and destroying one platform's version deep into development.

JokesOnYou5141d ago (Edited 5141d ago )

Theres only 2 things you can count on in life: taxes & death.

If you expect anymore than that as a sure thing then you only have yourself to blame.

How many 360 versions of PC games have been canceled? Hey, I can understand some initial dissapointment, but you've had plenty of time to grieve, and work out your feelings through counseling. Do you see all the 360 owners still crying months later after a annoucement about 360 version of a game being canceled?,(it doesnt happen that often, but your a pc elitist so I'm sure you get the point). Why? becuase thats life and 360 has plenty of other games to keep its user occupied just like your almighty PC, right?

Hint: When you grow up you will learn a tactic called "expanding your options", what that means is if you want to increase the odds of being able to enjoy more content in your preferred hobby, then you will have to own more of the platforms that make that content available. Now if you dont like or want those platforms for your own valid reasons, thats fine, but then dont act so childish when realize something you wanted is no longer available to you simply because you chose to limit your options.= Refer back to my 1st statement for guidance. lol

Anon19745141d ago

Seriously, man up. You want to know why Remedy pulled the plug on the PC version of Alan Wake? Look no further than the software pirates that have decimated the PC gaming industry. With Alan Wake being primarily a single player game with no incentive to connect to Remedy's servers with valid copies of the game Remedy might have just as well given the game away for free. It would have been available to any torrent happy PC gamer within seconds of it's release.

You want to go on an emo rant against anyone, direct your angst toward the source of the problem, not those trying desperately trying to get paid for their hard work

UPSLynx5141d ago

@Tony P glad you enjoyed it, finally someone who saw and appreciated the hyperbole I poured into the piece. And the photos are original :)

@darkride66 NO U. Piracy has not, and will not, kill the PC gaming industry, and it is hardly a reason for the devs to go console exclusive for Alan Wake. Honestly, many people pirate on the PC platform, but tons of people pirate on the consoles as well. I think I saw a stat that where 73% of PC gamers had admitted to pirating a game, some 54% had admitted to pirating on a console. Those are both serious numbers, and they're not stopping the industry from making record profits.

Microsoft simply wanted to secure profits on their platform, and to encourage more sales of said platform. That's it, really.

The piece was more directed towards the overall loss of quality from Remedy, mostly in regards to Max Payne, than it was about Alan Wake.

Seriously, Remedy making a console exclusive?

Consoles are kids toys, PC's are what men game on...

Remedy, FAIL!!

Fanb0y5141d ago

And here comes the PC elitist.

Do you seriously believe consoles are kid's toys?
I can probably get plenty of support even from retarded fanboys on this site when I say that they're not.

In order to be a 'hardcore' PC gamer, people need significant investment - both money and time. Now, you can bring up the argument that one can build a decent PC for $800, but that doesn't change the fact that most don't know the most effective way to purchase parts, how to put them together, and that setting up a PC game is not a piece of cake and will occasionally require a lot of time put into fixing problems.

Consoles are simply more streamlined, and you can get an equivalent experience out of them. Not to mention certain console exclusive titles that will attract certain gamers over PC gaming.

hay5141d ago (Edited 5141d ago )

@2: I bet you'd whine like a little girl playing console(yuck /s) Demon's Souls.

Take that fanboyism/elitism to the Open Zone.

Two-Face5141d ago

I prefer PC when it comes to gaming. But sometimes I play on my consoles too.

AND it sucks that Alan Wake is exclusive on 360. I wanted that game on PC. I have Max Payne 1 & 2 on PC. Dissapointed. Very dissapointed.

Nishka Fa Fa La Boo5141d ago

"Consoles are kids toys, PC's are what men game on..."

I don't call people who play WoW 24/7 men. they are more like nerds.

IdleLeeSiuLung5141d ago

I just don't want to d!ck around with incompatibilities, drivers, installations and the frequent "feeling" of the need to upgrade my PC. Now publishers are even making it a difficult for you to game on the PC with nasty DRM that encourages piracy.

To me it sounds almost like the real gamers are console owners....

Redrum0595141d ago

Look here bub, i dont dislike pc gaming but its the consoles that drove gaming to be the giant industry that it is today. How about this, you stick to your pc and we will stick to consoles, now lets see who gets to play more quality, unique, and diverse games.

Imalwaysright5141d ago (Edited 5141d ago )

Yeah because its the hardware and not developers that makes games. You can have your graphics card and processors for all i care. I rather have quality games from developers like Epic, Remedy, Santa Monica Studios, Team Ico etc, etc.

Cliff Forster5141d ago

http://gaming.icrontic.com/...

Do your research....

PC owns,

Consoles are toys for children, I play the wii with my six year old, I fire up my gaming PC when I have a little man time.

Developers need to recognize that the PC is the only true hard core gaming platform, and stop defer progress by developing on those silly little underpowered kids toys AKA 360 and PS3

Well, it really wasn't a surprise, small team, huge work, two platforms. And propably MS had the last word on it. This really is a shame, since now all people can't play AW.

I agree that MP3 doesn't even look Max Payne-game anymore? But like Remedy sayed:" We know as much as you about MP3, but hey, it's Rockstar, they don't do bad games."

And how is this news? :S

mcgrawgamer5141d ago

small team, huge work didn't stop them from making max payne 1 and 2 for xbox, ps2, AND pc.

I also agree it's not news, but man it's true........it's true.

*sniff*

IdleLeeSiuLung5141d ago

Yes, and the amount of work required to make a cutting edge Xbox 360 game is roughly the same as the original Xbox! /s

Kahvipannu5141d ago

I might be wrong here, but I believe Rockstar handled the conversions to consoles, not Remedy. And this AW-openworld-engine they have made is really impressive, I hope this engine takes some wind under its wings, so we see more of it.

Xi5141d ago

why do people act as if developers are their friends?

nilamo5141d ago

Because they have none, other than their gaming rigs which they pet every night before bed time.

Alan Wake, from Max Payne and Control creator Remedy, is a horror classic, prompting one player to buy 4,000 copies that don’t even work.

Kind of a goody story...

On a serious note, that is why I try activating gift cards asap. It's happened to me where the store didnt scan it right where the card was unusuable. Happened at Wally World.

gigoran810d ago

wait, that place is real? national lampoon wasn't kidding?

Tacoboto9d ago

I just bought two of the MonsterVerse Godzilla movies on 4K - both had digital copies expiring in 2023. Both were actually expired.

I'd be surprised but it's WB, of course they'd actually expire them

Knightofelemia10d ago

Usually most of those redemption card have an expiry date on them. If they expired all buyer did was buy recycled paper. And some of those codes are country locked to certain countries. I buy a card from the States I can't use it in Canada.

Chocoburger10d ago

Dumb and silly story. She wasted her money for no reason.

Is it really that hard to go to Steam or GOG. She spent $240, when its currently 70% off on GOG, and only costs $4.49.

Gee, I wonder, should I spend $240 on eBay, or $4.49 on GOG? 🙄

Rynxie10d ago

Most likely she wanted to resell a few or most of them. However, it was a too good to be true situation.

10d ago
Profchaos10d ago

So in short she paid $240.00 assuming usd for a bunch on unactivated game codes.

I still don't understand why I guess cause there's not a physical version and she wanted something for a collection or art project.

Rynxie10d ago

No, most likely to resell. However, she ended up getting screwed.

Asplundh10d ago

This is Alan Wake 1, it had physical copies.

What The Next-Gen Max Payne Remake Could Look Like

Just look at Alan Wake 2, it quite literally has the exact same character. This model in This article looks nothing like any rendition of max

FPS_D3TH29d ago

I don’t think about what he’s going to look like so much as I wonder as to what he’ll sound like after James Mcaffery passed away suddenly last year. He was the voice of Max Payne and it’s hard for me to imagine Max voiced by anyone else.

mkis00729d ago

Why would they need new voice-overs? I imagine the lines will be the same. It's story is part of the appeal and the delivery of the dialogue, especially during the comic scenes is iconic to me. They may have had the idea to add more lines, but I think the path is clear with him gone now.

FPS_D3TH28d ago

It’s a remake. Not a remaster and it combines both games. I’d be willing to bet $100 a lot changes.

Auron29d ago

More like max will be changed to maxine
