Red Rocket Games Announces MEVO & the Grooveriders

Bellevue, WA based Red Rocket Games has announced the "first downloadable music/rhythm platform game for the casual PC market." MEVO & the Grooveriders, the company's first game will be available this March.

Red Rockets Games, a new game developer focused on creating bite-size digital entertainment, has announced that its first game will be MEVO & the Grooveriders, a synchronized music/rhythm platform game for the casual PC game market. MEVO, the game's main character, has to reunite his band, the Grooveriders, and bring 'FUNK' back to the universe. All tracks are original, produced in-house with live musicians, and feature a unique and playful retro-funky style that varies from organic to electronic tracks. MEVO & the Grooveriders will be available for download in March 2009 on online distribution sites.

GamesRadar: MEVO & the Grooveriders Review

As you progress you gain points that let you unlock costumes, alternative heads, and new special moves. These include approximations of the four Left 4 Dead characters, but such affectations prove to have almost no effect. Each level has three challenges to complete, but if you achieve the Gold requirements while still aiming for Silver, they aren't recognized, forcing you to play through again. And then a third time for Diamond. And midway through the 15 levels the difficulty curve smacks you in the forehead. It's at a throwaway price, and for a few of the early levels it's passably challenging, but Mevo fails at its most fundamental task: to include rhythm with its action.

TheBBPS writes: "If you're an adult gamer, check out our staff's favorite rhythm games and play those first. If you're still craving more, maybe give Mevo & the Grooveriders a chance. If you've got kids who want a rhythm game, this may be one of the better choices over something like Guitar Hero, which requires more coordination. Mevo keeps is simple, and I appreciate that. I just wish the idea was better executed".
