Star Citizen's $48,000 DLC Sets A New Low For Predatory Monetization

The latest decision that takes Star Citizen slightly closer to the dreadful realization of it being a scam is the absurd $48,000 DLC.

kenpachi125d ago

This has been a scam game for years and charging this amount for dlc proves it any who buys it is an Idiot.

RpgSama125d ago

This is clearly a money laundering endeavor and should be investigated by the authorities.

This is _not_ me endorsing or justifying these prices, just giving context that I thought might be interesting to some since I work in the industry (not meant as a brag).

Whatever your opinions are about the people who buy these items, I can definitely confirm that people do buy them. This isn't even a record high-cost for digital assets, I know of one other game that has sold assets for even higher sums. Don't know who these "whales" are, but if they are spending that much on game assets they are probably doing fine. Some think it has investment potential, whether that's true or not we'll find out in time.

DLC like this and live-service games wouldn't be a big deal if it hadn't shown publishers/developers that it's extremely lucrative. Gamers that don't support these practices are at the mercy of those who do by buying battle passes and celebrity skins in games like COD.

Sound to me, you're one of the idiot that bought the DLC.

--Onilink--125d ago

Does it?

Not that its not unbelievably idiotic that something like this exists, but its not exactly new, they have a pack like this every year (with a price that is constantly going up since it “has more stuff”), so its hard to call it a NEW low when its been going on for a while.

At this point I just have to think that while some part of the game does actually exist for regular people to play, this whole other part of it has to be some kind of money laundering scheme haha, the numbers just don’t make any sense otherwise…

Color me surprised……ugh

Name Last Name125d ago (Edited 125d ago )

I’m not into conspiracies but there is no way people buy DLC for 48k. This only works as money laundering.

contra157125d ago

You have to be absolutely out of your mind and stupid to fall for this to actually go ahead with the purchase

EvertonFC125d ago (Edited 125d ago )

Even if I was a billionaire I wouldn't buy this out of sheer common sense.
This 100% needs investigating.and I imagine they are paying themselves nice yearly salaries and bonuses and walk away rich as when they cancel the game and say "sorry it was too ambitious" or some BS like that.

Star Citizen showcases the creation of the two brand-new animals coming to alpha 3.23

Land on any planet in Star Citizen currently and you’ll be greeted by things like weather patterns, flora, and very possibly a derelict or two. What you won’t find are any animals, however. That’s going to change with alpha 3.23’s release, as CIG has finally put together two animals to populate certain planets. That’s not quite three, but it’s more than one!

Two brand-new animals? Fantastic. This game should be ready by the time the Vault Dwellers come out from their Vaults Two Hundred years after the Apocalypse.

Any minute now...
