Ten Years Ago, The Last Of Us Changed Everything

The Last of Us celebrated its tenth anniversary this week, and Sony games have never been the same since it arrived.

Their assessment of what "Sony games are now" Is basically boiling down the classic three act story structure used in all storytelling and trying to shoehorn all their games into being "the same" based on that. It's a false narrative. They all tell good and engaging stories while simultaneously having top notch gameplay but the gameplay and the stories they tell are all very different.

cemelc311d ago

Maybe not the same for you, but certenly for me it has been.

This is what happened to me before the fall of ubisoft. their game started to put more into stories rather than expiriencies and after a while i couldnt stomach them anymore.

I hope sony realize this and start to do some corrections

Crows90311d ago

I hope not. Returnal was incredible and so was ratchet...and ghosts of tsushima.

I'd like to see an infamous game this generation and a resistance reboot along with new IP.

FinalFantasyFanatic310d ago

Hard disagree, story is more important to me, I can get by with not great game play and less than stellar graphics, but a good story is a must for most games.

This article is really weakly trying to tie all of Sony's games together as having the same style of story telling, and it really doesn't, there's more variety there than the article gives credit for.

Plus, even though I think Naughty Dog games are a bit weak with the gun play, the exploration and story telling more than make up for that flaw.

TLoU was a breath of fresh air to the zombie era at that time. Really pushed the PS3 to the limits. The game still holds up till this day. It's amazing ND was able to create 3 UC and TLoU all in one gen.

The Last of Us is without a doubt one of the best IP's ever created. Naughty Dog absolutely nailed it and was able to match and even surpass the excellence of Uncharted, which when you think about that...it is really, really hard to do to make such big hit series back to back. I cannot wait to see what their new IP is.

Crows90311d ago

Neil druckman at the helm...don't hold your breath. Could be great but I'll wait until it gets reviewed...whatever it is.

RupeeHoarder311d ago

Yes Uncharted & Last of Us...don't hold your breath for this guy. Until he drops a steaming pile, it's worth holding breath for.

Crows90311d ago

He wasn't all that instrumental in the first last of us...if he had his way the game would have been vastly different. Bruce made it what we love and remember today.

Uncharted 4 is my least favourite of the big 3. I don't really care much for uncharted 3. But again...Bruce straley was involved...

But with last of us 2...Bruce wasn't there...and it's the most controversial game ...still great in many ways but completely divided the fanbase...some odd decisions took place ...which coincide with what Niel wanted with the last of us part 1.

neutralgamer1992311d ago

The best game for me personally. Never even played the sequel because IMO it didn’t need

Crows90311d ago

Absolutely agree. I pretend the second doesn't exist.

Kosic310d ago

The sequel was long winded, I grew bored towards the 70% mark. It has the wow factor for detail, but the story is not what you want coming from part 1. Now I don't really care for a part 3, unless it's a prequel.

neutralgamer1992310d ago

If they do a prequel like RDR2 I would be interested but even RDR2 felt like a chore sometimes with too much realism at the cost of fun

FinalFantasyFanatic310d ago

I already heard more than enough about the 2nd game, I don't think I want to ruin the story of the first game for myself, it was pretty much perfect.

Kosic308d ago

Imagine a game where it goes from the events of the out break and it's Joel's adventure as a raider and breaking free from that life with his brother, and up till the point he meets Ellie.

There's a lot of grime opportunities

The Last Of Us Series Has Remarkable Potential For Spin-Offs

Najam from eXputer writes "It's time fore a new installment in the series, not another pointless remaster."

anast84d ago

They are working on something new. Not to be rude but it is impossibility stupid to think ND next major announcement is going to be a remaster or their next Last of Us entry is going to be another remaster.

AlterRecs81d ago

I think this is in response to them releasing a remaster for the sequel, a game that didn't need a remaster.

Basically a "why did you put out a remaster no one asked for when you have all there options available"

anast81d ago

They remaster is to put out something quick while they are deving new stuff. I don't get how people can be so static.

AlterRecs80d ago

There's no news about a third game being in production, you're just assuming that they're working on something that they aren't

anast80d ago

When they release the news to start the hype-train, you can give me my props then.

DrDoomer84d ago

I want an alternate timeline spin-off, where part 2 never happened.

CrimsonWing6984d ago

They’ve already done Remasters of 1 and 2… what else is there to Remaster?

AlterRecs81d ago

Considering they remastered the first game twice, who knows lol

CrimsonWing6981d ago

That was a Remake. I guess they could do that to 2, but man…. They should wait a couple generations so it can look like a major upgrade.

The Last Of Us Online Devs Celebrate Their Experience With The Canceled Game

The team is sad for losing out on such a great project but celebrates its growth because of spending time on it.

Chocoburger129d ago

All they had to do was make a basic online mode like their previous games. Instead they wanted more money and choose to go live service which makes games worse in my opinion.

What a waste of time and money, what a shame.

seanpitt2384d ago

I can't wait for season 2 so they can kill Joel off in the first 2 episodes!! Then it will be just Abby and Ellies revenge plot!

Something is telling me that this won't happen though because it wouldn't make sense, oh wait

Linzoid128d ago

Not sure why they didn’t just make Factions 2. There was no need to make it a live service.

TLoU Factions was a great addition such a shame they couldn’t be bothered to remaster that for PS5 considering the crazy high price tag of the remaster of a remaster…

anast128d ago

This is something to be celebrated. This studio is smart and they get it, even factions 2 wouldn't've have been worth the time. I am surprised they didn't just remaster the first one though, but actually how popular was Factions?
