"The official best-selling game of November was PlayStation's God of War Ragnarok. It was a huge launch for the PS5 and PS4 title. For its first three weeks on sale, the game has sold 62% more units than its predecessor (2018's God of War) managed.

69% of Ragnarok's sales were of the PS5 version, with the remainder on PS4."

Impressive number! Also still quite a bit of copies sold for PS4.

darkrider689d ago (Edited 689d ago )

God of war is a massive system seller. Is a reason to buy the console.

And having a massive new game to be playing or not having nothing new to play...

@crimsonwing gamers are buying cross Gen consoles... With graphics not even better then upgrades...

CrimsonWing69689d ago

I dunno about that, it's just the PS4 version better optimized. You don't even need to have a PS5 to play it, so that already makes it not a system seller. If it were exclusive to next-gen, I'd be right there with ya.

Nyxus689d ago

@ CrimsonWing: by that logic Breath of the Wild wouldn't have been a system seller for the Switch. But it definitely was.

CrimsonWing69689d ago (Edited 689d ago )

@Nyxus

mmmm I don't think so, honestly. I think more people had an interest in the portable/console hybrid and wanted it, which just so happened to launch along side BotW. Let's be real... the Wii U was buried by that time and barely sold. So, you have to figure most consumers wouldn't have gone backwards and bought a Wii U. The PS4 has a pretty sizable install base and happens to have God of War: Ragnarok available on it and it looks pretty identical to the PS5 version, cuz uh, well the PS5 version is just the PS4 version with better optimization and resolution.

A system seller, is really a killer app that's exclusive to the system. If you can get it somewhere else it's not "selling" the system. It's just an option. Now, if Zelda or God of War were only available on a single console then yea, I'd agree those are killer apps.

Nyxus689d ago

If people buy a system to play that game, even if it's also available on the previous system, doesn't that make it a system seller? Also, as far as BotW goes, I don't think there were many other notable games at release, so I think most people bought it to play Zelda at the time. Nintendo specifically delayed the game to release it together with the Switch, because they knew it would be a system seller.

''69% of Ragnarok's sales were of the PS5 version, with the remainder on PS4."
I'm really glad this is the situation with most cross gen titles from Sony, I want them to just focus on PS5 and I think they're doing exactly that with Death Stranding 2, HFW dlc and most likely a few others.

Nyxus689d ago

I expect them to drop PS4 for future first party releases, they also improved the stock issues for PS5 a lot so that helps.

badz149688d ago

not a single MS title is charting. call it the GP effect or whatever, but for a company that owns so many studios under its belt, it's really embarrassing. why buy more studios if you can't even push the many studios you already own to release games consistently?

by the look of it, some of those studios they bought are gonna get closed down in the coming years.

SoulWarrior688d ago (Edited 688d ago )

And now Phil is trying to covince everyone they are a smol player who can't compete unless they are allowed to swoop up the 3rd party industry unnapposed :(

ANIALATOR136688d ago

Cost of living is up. People can't justify paying 70 quid for one game

God of War Ragnarök Steam Deck OLED Performance Review I The Koalition

Adam Vale of The Koalition writes: In recent years, no publisher has pushed harder to get their games into the PC landscape than Sony. From Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves to Spider-Man and God of War (2018). For the most part, the overall performance for many of these ports has been great.

Who cares.... We played that game already and it's available on three platforms already. Make something new Sony... Make the pro worth something.

TOTSUKO22d ago

Hate to burst your argument but I regrettably waited for the pro to play this LMAO. Backlog is crazy bro

MDTunkown22d ago

You probably don’t represent the majority. PS5 pro would had sold like crazy if it removed fps cap on ps4 games

Luc2022d ago

Same. Just didn't have time to play! Good reason to play it now on the pro

HansyJ22d ago

Literally no reason to wait though the game on the flawlessly and looks incredible. I don’t even know how you’re gonna make it look better lol

Cacabunga22d ago

Already platinumed..
And what’s good in having a cross gen game enhanced on next gen hardware? Am i supposed to be excited?

Thanks for speaking for everyone, you narcissistic twat!

Aloymetal22d ago

Ikr, even tho I played Gow already Im planning to replay most of my game collection on the pro this November.

northpaws22d ago

@TheEroica So you prefer it doesn't enhance ANY existing games and no games take advantage of it until the next first party game release?

Luc2022d ago

Looking at your comment history gaming doesn't seem to be a hobby for you (although you like Xbox a lot eh?).

andy8522d ago

Amd? It's just an option for people who buy the new console. They should be doing it with all AAAs. It doesn't detract from making new games

jznrpg22d ago

I didn’t get the platinum yet so I’ll play it again on the Pro.

Tacoboto22d ago

Bro it's a free update.

What would be better, Sony not supporting their latest hardware so you can complain that even less software takes advantage of it?

*Eye roll*

Mr_cheese21d ago

Let's be real, you don't care either way. Just a quick check if your comment history and its all hate.

I don't know why people spend their time spilling hate fuelled bile onto articles.

What a sad person

ocelot0721d ago

Ahhh spoken like a true Karen. Sony supports it's new device Sony is bad. Sony doesn't support it's new hardware Sony is bad.

cbuc112521d ago

Well they didn't just stop making games I can assure you that.

PRIMORDUS22d ago (Edited 22d ago )

And the PC was not enhanced enough? lol. Please don't make another so called enhanced version for PC, that's enough. If we want a better version we can enhance games ourselves: https://www.youtube.com/wat...

HansyJ22d ago

Not that I give a shit, but I mean, I would like to hope so lol. One of the greatest games made by Sony of all time on the platform. Of course it should be updated to reflect your new pro console. I don’t even know why this is a discussion.

jznrpg22d ago

It’s not really a discussion just a confirmation. More games will be listed over time as they are finished being patched and apparently they just finished this one.

CrimsonWing6922d ago (Edited 22d ago )

In an enhanced mode, yup. That goes for any other PS5 “enhanced mode” game. There is no way in the world I’m dropping damn near $800 to see PS5 games look 30% better when there’s a console not too far off that will do the same and play next-gen games.

Shane Kim21d ago

I'll do the same, and from now on, I'll just get the pro iterations.

CrimsonWing6921d ago

This is kind of where I’m leaning if it’ll be another cross-gen kind of generation like this one.

TheKingKratos21d ago

The pc Vs ps5 compression was more than enough to tell you there is little to no difference and the Pro being enhanced will not change that ... It's likely 60fps to near quality mode
