South of the Circle (XS) Review | VGChartz

VGChartz's Lee Mehr: "State of Play could’ve tended towards encouraging greater interactivity (however subtle) that would have complemented the narrative; instead, the obstructive simplicity leaves you frost-bitten, unable to tangibly connect with Peter’s struggle. Combine this with a mismanaged story burning out its initial intrigue and South of the Circle winds up being a resounding disappointment."

So there are bugs and what not, but the problems go beyond what’s fixable. That’s a shame. I haven’t played a cel shaded game in a while.

There are a number of good reviews of the game too. Don't let this one write you off just yet.

I’ll check some out. Admittedly this was my first time hearing about the game.

That's fair. You can peg me to my own 'score island' compared to almost everyone else. But critics tend to leverage so much praise to crucial aspects while ignoring key issues. I don't see how South measures anywhere close to Edith Finch (for example).

There are a multitude of reviews on either side of the spectrum for this one. I didnt even object to your review. I have just seen enough people talk about this one with some praises to remain interested.
I havent played it yet myself and I'm not letting this one deter me either.

-"I didnt even object to your review."

I think you're acting a bit skittish to my response. I know what you meant and thought it was a fair clarification.

-"There are a multitude of reviews on either side of the spectrum for this one."

Well... true to an extent. There's more positive reviews than negative. What I mean by 'score island' is those instances where I might literally be alone in just how harsh of a score was given.

-"I havent played it yet myself and I'm not letting this one deter me either."

Okay. The best I can say to that is try waiting for a deep sale or maybe it goes to Game Pass or PS+ Premium soon.

Pretty much. I guess it comes back to what you're after. Because, even by TellTale games standards, this gameplay feels so flat and you're so disengaged. There will be disagreements about the story. I *kinda* get the appeal of its dual storyline and how they bleed in together, but what's going on just isn't that interesting.

No that’s fair, I get it. I’m always looking for takes on new titles. 👍

South of the Circle Review - PlayStation 5 - ThisGenGaming

TGG says: "South of the Circle tells an emotional and thought-provoking tale that isn’t to be missed by those who enjoy narrative adventure games. I found myself caring more and more about Peter and Clara as I got to learn more about them and it isn’t often that you get an emotional video game tale that focuses so much on love while also talking about things like war and social issues."
