From GI.biz: "It's financial earnings season, and as expected, a lot of the news coming out of the industry isn't particularly good.
Last week saw Microsoft and Sony post sales declines from their gaming businesses, even as the platform-holders' other businesses carried both to growth, while Capcom revenues were almost halved on a tough comparison to last year's first fiscal quarter when it launched Resident Evil Village.
This week saw a few more companies offer a mix of results, including Nintendo joining its platform holder peers with fairly "meh" results."
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth publisher Square Enix has declared a $140m loss based on a shakeup of its internal development pipeline.
What are they doing over there? Sounds like they canceled something big. I read a rumor a while back about ff9 remake . Here "Final Fantasy IX has gone through a very challenging development, the game is still in progress but may undergo changes drastic enough that we won't hear about it for a couple of years."
This could be one of the reasons if the rumor is true. That was Silknight i don't know how credible he is but it's something and it would make sense.
The industry implosion is continuing. Sky high budgets, prolonged development windows, stagnant sales numbers, and falling currency values (inflation) are wreaking havoc on the legacy industry. AAA games will slowly become the rarity.
- Xbox Wire - Mark your calendars! The Xbox Games Showcase followed by [REDACTED] Direct airs June 9. More info inside.
For a brief moment I thought we might get a whole Direct for Gears 6 - seems like it's COD though!
Danish from eXputer: "The Witcher's upcoming sequel needs to overhaul the series' combat system if it wants to make a big splash among gamers."
after what we see ( 2015 - 2024 ) in dark souls 3, blood borne , sekiro , dragon's dogma 2 , rise of the Ronin combat they should really careful and bring very good combat in Witcher 4 this time
They need new management. That's pretty much it. Focus on new experiences again, while using the revenue from their staple classics to keep things running.
They are in a decline and will probably go "90%" mobile gaming over the next gen. Their console/PC games will be thrown together just to keep that stream open, but their main focus will be mobile and they will look like and feel like mobile games across all platforms. The company is pretty much an afterthought at this point.
First off the is no such thing as eternal growth. It is a mental illness because it clearly isn't sustainable yet people act like its supposed to be normal for everything to grow evey year but emplyees paychecks. Also, Activision fell by 15%, Microsoft by 11% and Sony by only 2%. This means that they all still brought in a lot of money but not as much as during a pandemic lockdown. I mean the only way to sustain that growth is to have a pandemic lockdown every year and you would still hit a sales ceiling.
Quality has been on a long decline since i can remember . Revenue doesn’t matter to me but games I want to play do and I rarely bought an Activision game over the past decade and I can’t think of any off the top of my head . I buy a lot of games too .
Ignoring the human scum that runs it and focusing purely on their output because yes the gamers who read this site know about all of the sexual harassment and union rights violations that go on but average Joe who buys their games yearly won't know
Last two cod games were uninspired and average dropping innovations made by mW 2019 even the casual cod crowd noticed and avoided the games as a result. No one plays cod for alternative history stories so vanguard didn't really bring many who would play the games campaigns which belive it or not trophy data suggests that number is still quite high.
They folded more quality studios into the cod salt mines and despite a incredible thps remake folding vicarious visions into the cod saltmines before thps 3/4 remake got anywhere.
They are making a sequel no one wants in overwatch 2.
Blizzard dug a huge hole with warcraft 3 remastered and it's severe lack.of quality.
And they just don't publish many if any games that don't have a cod or wow logo on the box.
