So....I'm sorry, but where's the fun in the game now?

MeteorPanda776d ago

ah, see, some people are liking the explorative aspect of the game but not the dark souls part.

There's this thing called Fun where everyone achieves it differently in a game.

You don't have to use it, you arn't dying on a hill being mad at others for wanting to play a game how they want.

There's literally a community who speed run the game by bypassing content and abusing the games stats/map clippings, etc. Bet you don't pitch a fit at these "Wheres the fun in the game now, you skipped all the content"

garos82775d ago

the problem is meteor when the same whiny talentless babies then head online and start "pwning others" with their totally legit builds and act all hard. man up you wimps

MrChow666775d ago

Again...speedrunners spend tons of hours to master one game, it's not that hard to understand.

775d ago
MrChow666776d ago

Way to ruin the game and strip it of it's essence, have "fun" with that.

goldwyncq775d ago

Difficulty isn't the only thing FromSoft games are known for. How shortsighted of you to assume that everyone plays these games for the challenge alone.

cemelc775d ago

what are you talking about @goldwyncq ? this game entire niche is about difficulty scrub, everything marketed about this games is the challenge

Nicknasty775d ago (Edited 775d ago )

You sound no different than the people complaining about no easy mode. Kinda hypocritical there, but I’m sure you will have an excuse. Nobody is forcing you to play easy mode and the people that were wanting an easy mode, didn’t even have the option, you at least have the option and are still whining.

If anything the people crying about having this added are acting more of a baby than the ones that were crying about it being too difficult. Kinda glad I won’t be playing this game, if this is the kinda drama it brings.

lonewolf10776d ago

Did your fun get removed on the release of this mod?

Storm23775d ago

Exactly. I only want to play it the way the devs intended, but if someone else needs this to really enjoy the game, then go for it. Have fun, so will I.

Crows90775d ago

No but somebody else's did.

MrChow666775d ago (Edited 775d ago )

Of course not, it's your loss not mine...
I just hope FormSoft NEVER compromises their design philosophy to cater to an audience who do not understand their games.

CobraKai775d ago

Apparently when there’s options and choice, fun is stripped.

“So....I'm sorry, but where's the fun in the game now?”

From Software fans kill me. If it’s not incredibly hard then it’s not a fun game! Don’t you dare give anyone an easy mode because it will bother me even though I don’t have to ever use it.

775d ago
Crows90775d ago

Magic ,co op and builds. Easy mode is already there.

Even without that it's not that hard.

cemelc775d ago (Edited 775d ago )

if you cant beat a boss go grind somewhere else, you have summoning to help and still you need to break the game to finish it under the pretense of helping... yeah keep telling yourself that

What ppl like this want is not playing the game cos there are a 100 ways to make it easy for you, what this ppl want is the: "i finish a darksouls while avoiding learning the greatness of it"

Then you get online or play with a friend and can see from a mile away that you didnt play the game

ScootaKuH775d ago (Edited 775d ago )

That's the thing though, Elden Ring isn't "incredibly hard". It's challenging, sure but the essence of the game is that it redefines how you approach open world games. Lowering the difficulty and reducing the grind fundamental changes the game, for the worse. It no longer represents the vision of the devs the sense of achievement from finally felling a boss that has kicked your arse countless times has now been removed.

I get that it's only a mod and you don't have to install it but really, I just don't see why you'd want to dilute a game in such a way

WillyC009775d ago

SinisterMister is correct in a way. I don’t care about these mods being added after the fact, I just don’t want FromSoftware ever putting something like that into the game themselves. The fun is in the challenge IMO.

Crows90775d ago

The challenge is the only reason these games became popular. It's like people here think that souls players had fun just by looking at a wall. It's always been about headbutting the enemy until he dies. And with practice you can easily wipe the floor with about 80% of the bosses in elden ring.

goldwyncq775d ago

Even if there are difficulty options I'd just go for the hardest one anyway. I don't understand why some Fromsoft fans are so vehemently against it and that's coming from someone who's finished all Souls games since Demon's Souls.

Stop caring so much about how other people want to play their game.

WillyC009775d ago (Edited 775d ago )

@goldwyncq,

The games design is FromSoftwares. They’ve said in the past they will not be adding the difficulty options to their games and I hope they stick with their vision on this.

I guess if you have a problem with my stance, you should have a problem with the stance of people begging FromSoftware to add difficulty settings to their game, right?

neutralgamer1992775d ago (Edited 775d ago )

So I am sorry why doesn't it matter to you? Does this in any way affect your enjoyment of the game?

I never understood this argument. It's a single player game where your experience isn't being affected by accessibility options

MrChow666

Why can't we all play games for different reasons. You may enjoy the difficulty while another game may enjoy the exploration and story

More options are always better and I wish console gamers had mod support because both PS5 and Xbox series X are basically PC's

gammaray13775d ago

this is why PC gaming should be banned if they mod anything

porkChop775d ago

How does a mod that you don't have installed affect your experience? If you think the game is fun as-is don't install the mod and keep enjoying the game. I don't understand why people get triggered over options they don't ever have to use. The constant gatekeeping of toxic fanbases needs to stop. You are not the only ones allowed to enjoy a game.

cemelc775d ago

Cos if this mod enter the online part of the game ill get destroyed by a cheat build thats why.

lonewolf10775d ago

@cemelc

Seeing as you need to disable EAC not sure they will be going online, not that I will bother with these mods/save files.

Daeloki775d ago

Calm down Stacy, nobody's forcing you to use these mods

EvertonFC775d ago

For people who struggle with it and want value from there purchase maybe ? 🙄🤔

CobraKai775d ago

Ahhh the elitist who feels incredible difficulty equals fun. Not realizing that all gamers are different. Not sorry a modder made the game more accessible to the less skilled player.

Crows90775d ago (Edited 775d ago )

These mods aren't an easy mode. They're just cheats. It literally breaks the game so you don't have to even try. Lol

Just watch someone else play at this point.

Gardenia775d ago

With the Souls games everything about it is build around its difficulty. From gameplay to enemies to level design, it's the core of their games. It's not like with other games were you use cheats because the game is too difficult.

By using cheats in a Souls game is taking away everything that these games represent.

Crows90775d ago

Well cheating in any game is for losers. It's very serious in a game with eSports. In souls games there's the pvp aspect so cheaters really ruin the experience. It seems to me that some people have double standards here with regards to this game.

For those that didn't read article the cheats are as follows
1. Never lose souls. You automatically recover them after dying. No more risking.
2. Automatically regenerate health after killing enemies.
3. Receive a shit ton of runes to immediately level up

lucian229775d ago

The reason souls fans get annoyed is simple. They trek on into the game and earn their victories fairly, just for someone else to have their hand held.

It's like someone graduating college and getting a good career and buying a house, but their friend was raised rich and was just given his career and his house was bought by his rich daddy.

Does it directly affect the one who worked for it? Yes..... They had to work for what they had and it's annoying when some people are just given that something with little work.

The comparison may seem extreme but it's a similar feeling, just on a different scale.

goldwyncq775d ago

And there lies the problem. Why should anyone treat beating the game as a badge of honor that someone must earn the right to flaunt? If you enjoyed the experience and got what you wanted out of it then what's the point of getting frustrated with other players who chose to enjoy the game in their own way? None of it affects your own experience and unless those other players are cheating at multiplayer or something I just don't see the point at getting mad.

DVAcme775d ago

Uh huh.

Wait til those cheaters start doing PvP and using their broken builds to pwn the guys playing the game properly.

This is the reason I always play the Souls games on console, PC is full of fucking cheaters.

jjb1981770d ago

Lucian talks likes to tell others about the accomplishments of Elden Ring as an icebreaker so that she sounds more cool.

MadLad775d ago

And this is just a videogame.

MrChow666775d ago

I think we are all here beacause we Care about videogames.

MeteorPanda775d ago

The analogy you gave is so bad....
1. you basically said 'f disabled ppl'
2 You think there is a value to this game outside of it - which there is not.
3. Fun is not the same for everyone and your thoughts lead to other such ideologies "you're not the same as me, you're wrong
4. the person who "college and getting a good career and buying a house" probably doesn't have the fucking TIME to finish Elden ring and explore the game as a fat jobless boy at home - maybe they just want to explore the world and lore without the deaths, you gonna tell them refund the game or just leave them be?
5. "Does it directly affect the one who worked for it? Yes." how. besides "annoying" which is not a real reason, many things annoy me, like your comment. Doesn't mean l want you banned from the internet for voicing an opinion.

lucian229775d ago

Somewhere along the lines I actually mentioned that my anology is extreme and only has a base in the kind of feeling....... It really helps if you don't get so triggered... Lol.

It's just a comparable feeling but once again at a far less important and lower level. I did not myself say that's how I feel. I just chuckle at people who have to cheat to play a game.

As long as they don't make the game too easy in response to the people who are no good.

Also.... Where did you get anything about disabled people from my comment?

MrChow666775d ago (Edited 775d ago )

"1. you basically said 'f disabled ppl' "
You are confusing Accessibility with Difficulty

"3. Fun is not the same for everyone and your thoughts lead to other such ideologies"
That's why there exists a variety of genres in gaming, but No this genre has to change to suit your idea of what is fun.

4. You don't have to finish the game in one sitting or I dunno.. go play a shorter & easier game

lucian229775d ago

Also lmao you said a person with a career and a house doesn't have time for Elden ring...... I manage to play two days a week which is enough for me.... The fact you said that means you're exactly the kind of person you sound like....... 😂

Lexreborn2775d ago

I have been helping my friend get into it by doing the cloud exploit. I’m level 126 and almost done with the game but he’s barely able to hold his own. So I dropped him runes to get to lvl 78 while still in the beginning of game.

Started dropping powerful weapons and ashes as well. All he has to do it get used to the mechanics now and have fun. I don’t mind helping my buddy out.

Crows90774d ago

That's fine but it's interesting how it isn't enough to level him up...you then have to give him the powerful tools and even then I assume hear struggling...so being OP isn't enough if you're still getting hit everytime.

Lexreborn2774d ago

Naw it’s just my friend, he gets scared playing and it makes him want to quit. He loves the games style mechanics and world. He just has a personal issue with taking on the anxiety in the game. So I help him out

Crows90774d ago (Edited 774d ago )

Well...I'd tell him to play it comically. Play with him using a new character and just do some goofy ridiculous shit.

There's a light hearted nature to these game most people miss.

The 7 Best Souls-Like Games - Mastering the Challenge

The Souls-like genre remains popular, along with FromSoftware's classics there are many contenders. But which are the best Souls-like games?

toxic-inferno26d ago

Hmm... In my opinion, the 7 best are the 6 made by FromSoftware (DeS, DS1, DS2, DS3, BB and ER), then Lies of P. But each to their own.

kevco3326d ago

Still DS1? You don't feel it's been surpassed yet?

Demon's Souls has the remake of course, but DS1 has surely been outdated?

Smellsforfree26d ago

I think that the DS1 remake is better looking than DS2. The interior lighting matched with the low resolution textures in DS2 is very garish, IMO.

Besides graphics, what do you mean by DS1 being "outdated"? I'm someone who played through Elden Ring and just recently played through the DS series, and as far as gameplay went, there were all very similar.

Cacabunga26d ago

I haven’t played many but Bloodborne and NIOH1 are on top of my list.. had a blast with these 2

toxic-inferno26d ago

For world design and interconnectedness (that's a word, right?) DS1 is yet to be beaten.

The prevalence of parrying: Why is it so popular?

Parrying has been creeping into more games, with almost every high-profile title of the last few years featuring it in some way.  Why?

phoenixwing36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

i understand the authors frustration i'm not the best at parrying in games. not that i can't complete a game that requires it but it is a definite harder thing for me than other kinds of techniques in games. which might be the main reason it's so heavily added in games nowadays. want to make your game challenging without having to do a lot of work? just add a parry boss. (what i mean by parry boss is a boss you have to beat by parrying such that their attacks will kill you otherwise)

Dudeson36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

I always think it's fine as long as such games also have the roll/dodge panic button. But I understand the will to parry, it seems so cinematic in a fight when you pull it off.

DefenderOfDoom242d ago (Edited 42d ago )

A great example on how to do difficulty in a video game is DOOM ETERNAL. Started playing on ULTRA VIOLENCE but then I started playing on NIGHTMARE after a couple hundred hours of playing on UV . What makes DOOM ETERNAL fun, is on Nightmare, the enemies are very aggressive ,but they give you the tools to defeat difficult enemies , you just have to learn how to use them .

FinalFantasyFanatic41d ago

Doom Eternal was so tough, but it felt so amazing to finish that game, even when the enemy feels unfair and gang up/box up into a corner.

Nacho_Z42d ago

Personal dislikes are bullet sponges and bosses with regular enemies thrown in. Just make the boss hit harder if it's too easy.

thorstein42d ago (Edited 42d ago )

I think Helldivers 2 really gets it right. If enemies are easy, they swarm. If they're high level, they tend to have good defense and need strategems to take down...or bait.

I never feel too angry if I die by swarm because it is usually my fault for not checking my 6. I don't even mind dying if a teammate drops a bomb on the swarm that is gutting me.

I don't like cheap deaths. When the game allows you to progress only to hit you with an enemy that is suddenly immune to all the things you've unlocked and mastered is just dumb. If the game doesn't do hit boxes right and you get killed in lame ways it is dumb.

The screenshot is from Elden Ring, a game I really enjoyed, but the scaling was silly. I didn't do the Eligtree til late game so it was goofy difficult. I thought the Elden Beast was rather cheap. Not a fun skill based match, but just cheap enemy. There was no sense of, "oh it defeated me because I did this or I did that" like all Souls/Borne games.

Crows9042d ago

Don't handhold. There you go. every game is immediately harder and more rewarding.

DarXyde42d ago

1. Intelligent opponents that don't have some set, optional strategy to win and requires more critical thinking.

2. Game provides players with the knowledge and tools about a game world to stand a chance (or at the very least, the opportunity to gain the knowledge and tools).

3. Don't insist on enemies having much more health than the player arbitrarily. Sometimes, you'll have more durable enemies who are armored or inhuman which I would say is fair. The best approach to this I can recall in recent memory is Naughty Dog games: You're extremely vulnerable without armor and can get picked off pretty easily, but your enemies are pretty beatable with the right weapons and strategies where you can't just brute force it. That said, ammo is in short supply, so you engage at your own risk.

4. Depending on the type of games, make resources more scarce without necessarily making enemies bullet sponges. It simply means you'll have to choose your battles carefully and have damn good aim. Like Uncharted. If you're not good at headshots, Crushing is a rough time.
