Shuhei Yoshida’s favorite PlayStation indie games of 2021

Shuhei Yoshida, Head of Independent Developer Initiative at Sony Interactive Entertainment, writes: "Hey everyone, how was your 2021? For me, 2021 has given me opportunities to play more games than in previous years, as having access to PlayStation 5 has not only removed most of the wait time to get into the games I want to play, but also their loading times thanks to the console’s blazingly fast SSD.

Throughout the year, we have seen lots of amazing, charming, beautiful and totally engaging indie games on PS4, PS VR and PS5. Here are 12 of my personal favourites."

Among Us is the best one on the list, probably the first indie game I've sunk this many hours into.

Rimeskeem853d ago

Honestly got bored of it. People just argue the whole time and often turns into screaming matches.

Public games are a gamble for sure - I typically avoid them - if you find a good group of friends to play with, it's a pretty awesome game.

Better then hades and kena. Idk about that one

Orchard852d ago

I liked Hades and Kena, but Among Us is something I can keep going back to and I've put countless more hours into Among Us than either of those.

It was kinda of an original idea for once...but it depends with whom you play. Swearing 13 year olds showing whats wrong with modern society just breaks the fun for me.

Rimeskeem853d ago

I can't wait to see what Ember Lab does next, Kena was amazing.

My favorites on the list are Kena which I'm now playing. F.I.S.T. was pretty good & Hades is ok.

Kena got extremely difficult near the end. I had to switch to easy mode. I wish I didn’t have to but getting a repeated beatdown for hours is no longer my thing.

Very good game overall IMO.

Yoshida should get back to his job instead of writing blog posts. I know he's much-loved but in this role of being in charge of indies PlayStation have not been doing as well in this area as they did in the late PS3/early PS4 era.

GhostofHorizon852d ago

There are so many indie games out each week, I really don't know what you expect at this point.

Next year is already looking strong, Sifu is one of my most anticipated games next year.

ChasterMies852d ago

I highly doubt Shuhei Yoshida wrote this blog post. Sony has a while PR team for this.

GhostofHorizon852d ago

Some serious trust issues here.
They have no reason to decieve people.

Writing a blog post took couple hours at most from his work day. It went through their PR team most likely but to straight up write a fake list for literally no reason is a bit of a stretch.

finally!, being waiting for this game since its announcement some years ago, so many objects on screen using physics running at 60 fps is always mesmerizing to see.

Played the demo on PSVR2 - it's trippy as hell!

Knushwood Butt376d ago (Edited 376d ago )

Awesome. I had this on my PS wishlist and was going to buy it Day 1. Seen as I have Extra, now I don't need to!
PSVR2 support too.

Abnor_Mal376d ago

Platformers are not really my thing, but I guess I can try it out on PlusExtra. In VR2 to boot.
