Spider-Man: Miles Morales PS5 review - pretty spectacular [Metro]

Metro writes: "A far better advert for the PS5 than its short length and last gen assets might have suggested, with superior storytelling and more compelling characters than the original."

Flewid6381293d ago

Well yeah. The article literally says its spectacular. lol.

bartender641293d ago

Question: does the spiderman ultimate edition includes Miles Morales expansion? I don't have the original, so I was planning on getting this version if it includes the expansion.

RaidenBlack1293d ago

TL;DR: If you take out the mentions of story.
In Short: A far better advert for the PS5 than its short length and last gen assets might have suggested.
Pros: Ray-tracing works very well amongst the skyscrapers, as does fast-loading and other next gen tricks.
Cons: The amount the game steals from Batman: Arkham is still outrageous.

NEXUS-61293d ago

So in other an amazing game?

The outrageous 'steals' are common place in gaming, how do you expect games to be made?

No platformer could be alike, No FPS could be alike, No RPG could be alike, you can't reinvent the wheel with every game.

outsider16241293d ago

"The amount the game steals from Batman: Arkham is still outrageous."

Steal sounds a bit stretched. Come on. All games do this. I would say take inspiration from the batman games sounds much better.

And whats wrong with being inspired from other games?

Anungunrama1293d ago

But didn't the batman games just "steal" from spiderman combat system on ps2, seems incredibly similar.

Nyxus1293d ago

Just ordered my copy today!

Battlestar231293d ago

Only 8 hours long. Sorry but the first one was longer then that it and it's not worth 50 euros/dollars. I'll get it when it's on sale for 10/15 euro.

BigBosss1293d ago

Better 8 hours than 4 to 6 hours.

Battlestar231293d ago

It's still to short dues insiders on twitter saying this was 5 hour long DLC for the first game repackage as a full game at full price were telling the truth.

CrimsonWing691293d ago

I’m pretty sure it’s around the 6 hour mark. Reviewers said Uncharted: The Lost Legacy was 10 hours long. YouTube blind playthroughs for that game. This game is essentially a kind of spin-off pseudo sequel like that game is. Doesn’t make it bad or anything but a lot of people were expecting a lengthy full fledged game and that’s not what it is. Same with Miles.

P_Bomb1293d ago (Edited 1293d ago )

“.. insiders on twitter saying this was 5 hour long DLC for the first game”

Insiders should know the first game already had three part story DLC called ‘City that never sleeps’. If you know how the DLC ends, it kinda makes sense that a Miles Morales game be made after.

Software_Lover1293d ago

Better 4 to 6 hours than 2 ............ I will see my way out.

BoneMagnus1293d ago

2 minutes in heaven is better than 1 minute in heaven.

I've beaten each of the first 3 Uncharteds in the same amount of time and those were $ well spent at launch *shrugs*

P_Bomb1293d ago

Uncharted 4 even had a speedrun trophy for 6hrs or less. The Last Guardian had three of its own. Ico had two. People get too hung up on length. I could spend a cumulative hour in photo mode alone.

Hellcat20201293d ago

You were never going to buy it anyway,
Goodbye

RazzerRedux1293d ago (Edited 1293d ago )

Why are you pretending we did not already know this game was going to be shorter than the first?

" insiders on twitter saying this was 5 hour long DLC for the first game repackage as a full game at full price were telling the truth"

lol...."insiders", sure. Sounds like you'll believe anything if it suits your narrative.

stefd751293d ago

As the review is down i cant see it but i bet there will be a lot of other stuff to do and i bet there will be DLC's in the future. I wonder if that 8 hours is just the main story. People were able to finish Ghost of Tsushima in 20 odd hours, i have 60 odd hours and still not finshed Act 2 yet and the first Spiderman game could be finished in 16 odd hours. I have about 30 odd hours in that before i finished it and i still have stuff to do in it

BLAKHOODe1293d ago

I'm fine w 8 hours. I get wanting the most out of your money, but a 20 to 50 hour game feels like overkill and I start to lose interest and not finish. 8 to 12 hours is perfect for me.

Flewid6381293d ago

8 hours of masterclass gaming > 50 hours of mediocrity but hey, do you. lol.

The problem with God of War Ragnarok and Sony first-party PS5 games

Playing the best PS5 games is starting to feel like a bad case of deja vu

Open world, narrative driven and third person, are not genres

sparky77546d ago

And yet they all play the same, just like Soulsbourne/Metroidvania aren't genres PS games all play exactly the same.

shinoff2183546d ago

Beats racing around a track and playing the newest broken halo. Sony games crush what Xbox has. Easily.

mkis007545d ago

But they dont? God of war plays nothing like days gone plays nothing like ratchet and clank plays nothing like horizon, plays nothing like ghost of tushima, plays nothing like returnal, plays nothing like spiderman. Seriously even if you were to try to compare ghost of tushima to god of war the combat is completely different.

jambola545d ago (Edited 545d ago )

You think God of war plays exactly the same as spiderman?....

Also, Metroidvania is a genre
Open worlds is not
Souldsbourne is a genre
Narrative driven is not

I love these games but bro, you can’t tell me they don’t all feel similar. I own on my ps5 and have played for the last year on ps5: uncharted 4 next gen update, forbidden west, miles morales, both god of wars and the re-release of TLOU and yes, they all feel very similar and all are fresh in my memory. They’re great games and I love them but they are in fact starting to feel formulaic.

darthv72546d ago

They feel formulaic because that was the intention. The PS4 gen was meant to be different than PS3. Which means all the big Sony owned games follow the same core design for big budget, over the shoulder, 3rd person, semi / open world, action / adventure story driven narrative. Each one just takes place in its own environment, feudal japan, post apocalyptic future, norse mythology... you get the idea?

isarai546d ago (Edited 546d ago )

Ill give you tlou and gow, but horizon and Spider-Man? They feel absolutely nothing like any other game, same for R&C and GoT. They all look and feel very distinctly different to me. You're stretching way too hard to try and make this false narrative a thing

shinoff2183546d ago (Edited 546d ago )

Yea I think yall crazy. Each of those games are nowhere near each other. If you want to compare all those games and say they are similar you must just be tired of gaming because almost all games have similar things about them. I think sonys games offer Hella variety

Also I enjoy third person. I'd prefer it over fps anyday

mkis007545d ago

How do any two games not feel formulaic? Im not sure what forbidden west and spiderman have in common.

jambola545d ago

No
In your opinion they're feeling formulaic
If you think God of war, ratchet and clank and spiderman feel tbe same
That's insane

What a sad excuse of a clickbait article.

PS_HCT546d ago

With God of War: Ragnarok being the fastest selling first-party game launch in PlayStation history selling 5.1 million copies, I don't think there is much of a problem.

Snookies12545d ago (Edited 545d ago )

I mean, I do agree with you to a certain extent. But sales really don't mean much when it comes to quality. Granted, GoW Ragnarok is definitely a quality title. Yet, on the other hand. We have the hot mess that Pokemon just released. And from what I hear, it's selling more than any previous Pokemon game. Which always bring in millions, every iteration.

Shane Kim546d ago

I don't really understand the whining. Yes they might play kind of similarly (I don't think so, but to each their own) but Sony's exclusives are like 1% of the gaming library. Would you rather they play just like every third party game out there?

Spider-Man: Miles Morales PC Review | Gaming Nexus

John writes, "With the release of Miles Morales, PC gamers will be able to enjoy both great Spider-Man games if they don't own a PlayStation 4 or 5. The game does need a solid machine, and if you have a NVIDIA Ada Lovelace card, you can unlock some great extra performance. It's a continuation of Marvel's Spider-Man with some new powers and some slightly different enemies, but it's solid and will give fans of the first game more of what was good to begin with."
