Report: Battlefield 6 Details Coming in Next Month's Issue (#177) of OPM

We'll be getting first details on Battlefield 6 in the upcoming #177 issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine (OPM UK).

It won't be coming this year, it's already been confirmed for 2021. I'd be surprised if we get a teaser though, was expecting that closer to the end of the year

If EA plans for an earlier than usual release window, Q1-Q2 2021 instead of Q4 then a teaser trailer might be coming pretty soon. In any case, BFV's premature support termination and it's generally bad reception will definitely have EA scrambling to keep this IP relevant and in people's radar, especially since their main competitor has been absolutely killing it with their latest releases and of course their Q4 2020 new COD game.

This is make or break for the BF IP, EA/Dice will have to do everything right, no missteps are allowed going forward.

Get rid of the horrible menus and upgrade system, make it a modern setting and most of all make it fun. The last decent BF was Hardline, and even that wasn't great.

Would like to see near modern. So mostly modern guns, choppers, tanks, but without the need to try to incorporate too much current/near future tech. Like late Cold War/Desert Storm era.

Also as some people have noted, they need to be quicker with the maps. Despite the hate from people who never played it, BFV actually put out some really good free maps, they just took forever to do it.

I think the battlefield community needs to have discussion on removing campaign. 99% of the time I spend is in multi-player and without single player the devs could focus on more maps. That or make the single player something worth playing more than once and longer than a few hours.

I agree BF campaigns have been trash for years and I would bet that less than 10% of players actually play through them. People are always virtue signaling for FPS campaigns but the truth is that most of them are boring and uninspired, its just not fun to shoot dumb npcs.

I treat the Single player portions og both Cod and BF as braindead fun arcade shooters. I wouldn't be willing to shell out 60% for a game with MP only, as they can essentially just shut down servers and leave me with money spent and nothing gained.

I obviously play the MP a lot as well though, just to clarify.

Don't just hit disagree, give me a reason you think battlefield campaigns are worth it. The last good playthrough I had was bad company 2, all the others (3,4,1,5) sucked. Why bother with something nobody cares about after day 1?

Because you totally are going to go back and play a 3-hour tacked on campaign 15 years after release when the servers shut down. There would be no value in the game without that.

It sucks, because if you are a major game now and you don't have a campaign, you get a landslide of bad press. A lot of people will immediately jump on the "look how cheap EA is cutting out campaign in this game! This never would have flown ten years ago!" Ironically, in the early to mid 2000s, it was perfectly acceptable to have multiplayer focused games without a traditional campaign. Battlefield 1942 and the 2000s Battlefront games could be played offline, but these modes were set on the multiplayer maps with little cutscenes thrown in.

In a weird way, we've gotten to sort of the reverse of what happened in the late 2000s, where publishers seemed to be forcing devs to tack on multiplayer modes to obviously single player focused games with the idea that it would hurt the used games market (see for example BioShock 2, Far Cry 2). Now devs have to tack on single player modes to multiplayer games to keep people from crying.

I think something that would apease both crowds is have two series. A traditional sp/mp battlefield like Bad Company and a Mp focused series that could be the main numbered games. That way everyone wins and the games get a decent refresh each cycle.

That's a great idea. I actually really enjoyed both Bad Company games for both single player and multiplayer. They also have the medal of honor license that they've managed to totally tarnish, but which could theoretically be used for a different focus than Battlefield.

The best campaigns were in Bad Company 1 and 2. If they aren't going to be as good as those then I would rather not have them at all

I really love the WW2 premise, but man did EA / Dice mess up the execution! Some iconic battles like Stalingrad and the invasion of Italy would’ve been fantastic, but sadly never seemed to get considered. Instead we got claw arms and SJW content & the rest is history... :(

I’d be happy with a well-executed WW2 reboot!
