Blue Protocol to end service on January 18, 2025 in Japan; western release canceled

Free-to-play online action RPG Blue Protocol will end service on January 18, 2025 in Japan, Bandai Namco announced. The previously planned western released published by Amazon Games has been canceled.

Amazon's game division has a very hard time making games happen, eh?

Valkyrye64d ago

they were publishing not making it

TheNamelessOne64d ago

I know that, but they were still involved and it's yet another game they're connected to that won't make it to market.

Vits64d ago (Edited 64d ago )

Well, according to Japanese players, the game had a very good foundation and was fun to play for the most part. However, progression was terribly annoying - as it often is with Asian MMORPGs - the game lacked content, raids were boring, and the monetization was predatory. Meanwhile, here in the West, the only time the game received any coverage after the Amazon partnership was announced was when Amazon admitted they would "change" and remove some content from the Western release to achieve a Teen rating.

That, coupled with Bandai Namco's weak results last Quarter, makes this cancellation not surprising.

I was going to check it out. Now I’ll wait for Everquest 3. I loved the first EQ

repsahj64d ago

Too bad!! I am waiting for this game! Why?!?!

PapaBop64d ago

Wow.. there was a fair bit of buzz surrounding the game but for it to EoS so fast, what a waste.

So now they will focus on quality? lol

blackblades260d ago

To be fair, they the only ones. Square and other Japanese devs been lacking is quality for a long time and they made up for it in good games.

SilentZeroX259d ago

Capcom, Nintendo, and Atlus are far better than Bandai, and you can't really count FromSoftware as one of Bandai's studios.

blackblades259d ago

@silent yeah I know, i ment to put a few. Example square gives quality to FF, with SO and valkyrie nope. Koei quality been eh but there games are fun. Its not just Japanese though.

1Victor260d ago

Good let’s hope others follow them before the industry get too close to collapsing again.

-Foxtrot260d ago

Yeah…when they realised we’re not all massive suckers

Pepsi_Man3000260d ago

Absolutely insane that quality wasn't already a focus

H9260d ago

That's the most insane statement I have ever heard, it's basically saying "from now on we will try to make good games"

CrimsonWing69260d ago

I mean, why in the f*ck wasn’t this the priority from the get-go? Now that you see consumers aren’t going to swallow up your dribble for full price you have to make the announcement that you’re focused on making “quality” games now? What a joke.

jznrpg260d ago (Edited 260d ago )

Quality should always be the focus and that will get you $$$$. Though I have to say Bandai Namco has made some great games but some of their anime stuff could be better quality
