$399 would be an ideal price point.

darthv721590d ago

$399-499 is what I'm comfortable with.

Crazyglues1590d ago

well there is a rumor of a pro that could come at launch to give gamers more options so $399 -PS5
$499 -PS5 Pro... More memory and a little fast CPU & GPU to match the XBox -->

I think that works because the hard core market can get what they want and regular people can get the more budget one they want.. win win..

I guess we will see soon enough..

Brave_Losers_Unite1590d ago

I think $500 is perfect. Just have it on hardware not bundle it with anything like XBox did with Kinect

Eonjay1590d ago

Either way it will be worth the price. Same goes for Xbox. You won't be able to build a PC with the specs of either for the price of next gen.

S2Killinit1590d ago (Edited 1590d ago )

$599 is what I want.

@crazyglue
If so, then I think 499 and 599 is more like it.

TakashiKomuro1590d ago

I'm hoping for the PS5 Pro as well. Do a normal 9.2 TFLOPS console for $399 and then an enthusiast version for $499.

CBaoth1590d ago

There is no forthcoming PS5 Pro. It took 3 Titans to render Witcher 3 at 8K last year on PC. $100 extra on top of a PS5 ain't gonna cut it. If we use the PS4 Pro as an example, then games running on a PS5 Pro won't increase framerates anyway. So what's the point? To play SP games uprezzed on TVs that still cost $5000? Focus on 4K and price - put out a slim in 3 years n call it a day.

TakashiKomuro1589d ago

Who said PS5 Pro will aim at 8K?

frostypants1589d ago (Edited 1589d ago )

@Eonjay, certainly not at first. You're right, they usually launch these consoles at a razor thin margin...sometimes even at a loss. On top of that the I/O bandwidth for the SSD in the PS5 is supposedly something not even available in PCs yet. If we even have the tech in question (whatever it ends up being) on the consumer PC market by the time the PS5 is released, it'll be pricey. Most speculate it's a PCIe 4.0 interface SSD that's faster than those currently available elsewhere (and those are stupid fast as it is). If true, and it very likely is, that would be freaking crazy.

I think with the rumored technology, this systems are going to bust $399. I expect the PS5 to come in at $500. People just aren't ready for consoles to reach PC/Phone pricing.

fiveby91589d ago (Edited 1589d ago )

I think companies like MS and Sony think broader than just the cost of the unit. Attach rate, services, etc which usually accompany hardware purchase factor in to unit selling price. Companies often take a loss on hardware and try to make up the difference and then some with software and service offerings. I expect neither company will go over $499 and perhaps may try for lower. Over time of course the price point of the OG units will drop as mid gen models are released.

Clunkyd1589d ago

@GahI1k

PC isn't as optimized as consoles.

sampsonon1590d ago

$399 agreed. Hit a home run Sony

Jin_Sakai1590d ago

$499. I want PS5 to be as powerful as possible and $399 doesn’t seem feasible.

RosweeSon1590d ago (Edited 1590d ago )

I agree I want power the more the better but it’s not the be all and end all typically all the best games have come out on inferior hardware.
Tetris
Mario1
Resi 4 came to GameCube first hardly the most powerful console of the time.
Xbox released X they suddenly started releasing the best games nope they still barely released any and certainly not better. Even if they (Sony/ps5) sell at a loss if they keep up their games the way they did this gen they’ll make their money back through them PS+ or ps Now subscriptions.
Who cares about teraflops if all your exclusives are flops 😜✌🏻🤓

blackblades1590d ago

Why everything has to be 99 why not $450. The middle number between between $399 and $499.

corpsemaker1590d ago

I agree it should be an option, but it’s a marketing tactic to seem cheaper with the 99. Must be based on psychological research

neutralgamer19921590d ago

It will be $399.99

Xbox series x will be $499. 99

Ps5 dev kits are 13.2TF

Sony is willing to take $65 loss because they will make that money back in many ways. Software, marketshare, psn plus income, psn now will become a bigger focus and has already well over 1 million paying members at $9.99

darthv721590d ago

Were the dev kits confirmed to be 13.2tf? Also keep in mind dev kits tend to be beefier than final product. So would it surprise anyone if the final product was 10tf? It really doesnt matter because what they achieved this gen is still remarkable (be it pro or regular)

MasterCornholio1589d ago

@Darth

"Also keep in mind dev kits tend to be beefier than final product."

"So would it surprise anyone if the final product was 10tf?"

But 3.2 Tflops more powerful is what your saying.

I honestly would be surprised if the console is that far behind the power of the dev kits. If the dev kits are over 13 Tflops RDNA i would expect anything below the 10 Tflops for the retail console.

CaptainHenry9161590d ago

If it's $399 it will win the console War with ease

Parasidious1589d ago

I'd be surprised if was less than $499.

Mroc131589d ago

Why downvotes because he said $400?

isarai1590d ago

If it goes above 499.99 it's going to affect them negatively. Sure the hardcore will buy it but the masses are not as willing to pay that much for a game system.

darthv721590d ago

Well, mass market appeal doesnt hit until the $299 price or lower happens. In some gens it was $199 or lower.

BizarroUltraman1590d ago

dude..thats end of generation prices.
I think $499 will be the price of PS5. I just don't see how they get to $399 with all the tech in the system.

Atom6661590d ago

Big caveat here, but IF the spec rumors of 9TF PS5 and 12TF Xbox are true, that tells me Sony is shooting for $399. I don't expect either to top $499.

Sony saw great success at that $399 market for the reasons you mention. $399 is probably a lot closer to mass appeal launch pricing in the modern market.

darthv721590d ago

@bizarro, that is why I phrased it like I did. The core will buy at the higher initial price but the mass market usually waits for it to be somewhat cheaper. Which is what Isarai said. I'm not suggesting the PS5 will be $299. I'm saying that if it hits $299 is when it will sell huge numbers like the PS4 has been doing since hitting $299. And the Ps4 will sell even more once it hits $199 (which will be after the PS5 releases)

TeamIcoFan1590d ago

Consoles will inevitably have a launch price of $599 due to inflation.
It was a boneheaded move back in 2006 because $599 back then would be over 700 dollars today.

isarai1590d ago

Its a lot cheaper to manufacture a lot of these components compared to 2006 also. I do agree at some point, just dont think NOW is that point

seanpitt231590d ago (Edited 1590d ago )

$499/ £450 perfect price... with this price you know Sony wouldn't have skimped on things like they would have to with a $399.. you can’t expect it to be a beast at that price..that’s what happened with the PS4 it was so underpowered when it came out they needed the pro to make it more competitive with pc, if the ps5 is $399 then it will have half ass specs and expect a ps5 pro in 3 years to keep up with the competition.. my low end cheapest iPad 2019 cost me $350 / £300

isarai1590d ago

Apple products are not a good way to gauge value

KyRo1590d ago

The Pro and the XBox One X only really happened because 4K took off mid generation. Last generation HD and the console launches grew up side by side. It was ready out the box (for PS3 at least, the 360 had a revision) but to achieve 4K it would need a bit more power to produce, hence the Pro and the One X

So no it was not because the PS4 was under powered and if that was so, the Xbox One must have been severely underpowered judging by your logic...

froy4021590d ago

I think from here on out going forward mid gen cycles will be the norm, it helps keep the system relevant and sales up. It wouldn't surprise me if xbox released more than three series next gen

strayanalog1590d ago

If you can bring in all of the previous consoles it should be free in good faith.

Christopher1589d ago

That's a hot take. Give away hardware and hope people buy at least 20 full priced games on it to cover the costs.

strayanalog1589d ago

You know you dig it. Chris, I like you, but you know just as well as I that a good general knows when to give to his soliders. It would be a cool way to thank the loyal. And speaking of loyalty, you know those fans are going to buy a lot of games over the years and there's subscriptions to be bought. Not to mention, no one would expect it. Hell, I can't believe I said it in sarcasm and it doesn't sound that bad now.
