Top 10 Games of the Decade (2010-2019)

The 2010s saw some truly amazing games, and as we head towards both a new decade and console generation, it seems only right to look back at the best. Daniel Rom writes his top 10 list.

God Of War hit all the right notes. I think the only other game that benefited from such an overhaul was GTA switching from 2d to 3d

The latest God of War was something special. You could feel it as you were playing it. A true triple A title with a lot of love and passion going into making the game.

I was kinda disappointed with the Ni No Kuni sequel... It lost its charm... I dunno. Persona 5 will stay with me forever. I would have to add Horizon ZD and a few indies like Hotline Miami, olli olli or Quacamelee

I haven't played Horizon or Ni No Kuni 2 as of yet, but I plan to play Horizon eventually.
My favourite Indies of the decade are probably Undertale and Super Meat Boy. Great games, just not quite my top 20 this gen.
Honourable mentions would be The Last of Us, Life is Strange, The Last Guardian, Trackmania Turbo, Nioh, Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments, Death Stranding, Resident Evil 7, Alien: Isolation and probably a couple others I'm forgetting.

I always forget about L.A. Noire and I played the 2017 updated version not long ago.

Deus Ex MD is the most underrated game of the decade in my opinion, it was amazing. I put 500+ hours in the game (inc DLC's), good old times...

I'm afraid to say I meant to put Human Revolution instead as I got them mixed up when writing my list. XD
I do think MD was excellent, but I was unlucky enough to encounter 3 near game-breaking bugs during my playthrough. One that made a friendly quest NPC go berserk, one that forced me back to an earlier save from constant crashing, and the other not loading a new area when travelling by subway, which I had to wait a week for a patch fix to continue the game. Such a damn shame as the rest of the game was fantastic, but those bugs heavily impacted my experience.

I agree with those and would add in (personally) driveclub, quantum break, gears 4 and spiderman. All of those i have thoroughly enjoyed this decade.

True, Driveclub and Spider-Man were also good, but they weren't (for me) on par with the games I mentioned.

I've only played the first three Gears, which were great, but never any of the later games. Never owned an XBox of any generation so I don't have an opinion on Quantum Break, but recently saw something where it was stated Alan Wake and Control are in the same universe, which I thought was also said about QB and Control. Which would mean all three games share the same universe, that's cool.

I still have to go back to the Witcher3, early in the game, the beginning actually, after the witch in the well, I needed to repair my sword. I could not remember the one place I went that had a blacksmith, so I roamed for while, got frustrated and stopped playing. Also not playing any of the earlier games did not really push me to continue as I didn't get the hype surrounding the game. I plan to try again this winter when I tackle my backlog.

Witcher 3 can seriously get you down in the early parts with durability and crowns that are hard to come by, but if you just keep at it, the game really, really opens up and you're treated to a world full of great stories and characters.

It's one of my games of the decade along with TLOU and God of War.

See, that's why I do want to be able to get further than a broken/full sword. I've heard such wonderful things about the game and series as a whole.

I think I just wasn't ready to play such an in depth game, cause if i remember correctly the menu and combat system was robust.

Then you have the Gwent game which I did not like or give a chance to see how intricate it was to the story. i will get back in there and give it another go, but will start from the very beginning when I do.

List started off strong, With black flag then takes a nose dive. Sure he has some stellar games in there but the way he ranks them is absurd. From just a pure, objective stand point how can a grown man, place God of War so low and minecraft at #2? Breathe of the wild is not even the best Zelda game in the past decade and Dark Souls is not the best in the souls series.he also has a trash moba game from 2009. Playing moba is fine but your ranking top 10 best of the decade, a moba has no place in that category.

i would like more like 4 or 5 tiers, in each for 4-5 games. for example for me
1 tier : God of War, Red Dead Redemption, Bloodborne, Witcher 3, The Last of Us
2 tier : Skyrim, Nier Automata, Yakuza 0, Persona 5, Mass Effect 2
and so on... there is simple too much game in 10 years to make a top 10.

According to this list Dark Souls is the #1 game of the decade. I can accept that, but AC black flag #10? wtf? I would have put AC Odyssey before black flag. I also would have included Bioshock Infinite on the list.

For me, 3 games I enjoyed this decade more than anything else are:
The Witcher 3 wild hunt.
Red dead redemption 1.
Zelda botw.

I didn't give God of war a chance to play it yet, probably it'll be on this list too.
