Star killer from Force Unleashed is a milllllllion times better. More emotive and everything.

I wouldn't say that. I played both Force Unleashed games and I wouldn't say that Starkiller is a milllllllion tims better than Cal. I haven't finished the fallen order yet but Cal is not bad or borring any more than Luke was. I think his biggest sin is that he is a white male. If this same exact role was played by a woman of color than it would have been the most interesting character in the world for gaming journalists.

I also like Star killer more race is irrelevant I just don't like the character. It's funny how the only time its okay to use the race card on this site is in the defense of a white male, any other time it's taboo "who said anything about race" "why bring race into this" etc.

Exactly, I don't care about the race of the protagonist. If they're bland they're bland just like in Watch Dogs 2 I didn't care for that protagonist either and I'm black.

Star Killer was better than Cal in every way, I think they could have done a far better job of main character choice.

@AnubisG, I don't even know why race is being brought up no one brought up race when we all said Aiden Pearce from Watch Dogs 1 was a hollow shell. Compared to characters like Joel in last of us or Trevor in GTA 5. You can make interesting white characters without needing any weird gimmick

I said what I did because gaming "journalists" have complained about Cal being a white male and that is a mentallity that most have. This is the reason why they attack this character but Ray from the new trilogy is amazing and the best ever to them. Yes there is this agenda today and I'm just pointing it out. You can make good or bad white male character but Cal is not a bad character in any way nor he is boring. They are attacking him because of his race and gander but that is ok today somehow because he is a white man. I bet you anything that if Cal was a woman than there would be 0 problem and it would be called an exciting, revolutionary character.

Personally I wouldn't care but many gaming journalists do and I know they do. Most people know this as well and that is why they are calling this out.

If they made a female protag, she'd more then likely end up being a mary sue like Rey is. I don't care about the race of the person, I just don't like when a character is made a race/gender the creators have no idea how to create. The ones making all the ethnic and genderswap characters are still white men, so I don't see them having any touch on these types of characters without having to go to google for every sentence.

Gender politics seems like a stupid thing to address in Star Wars. It's not like the series ever really explored such things. Equality in general was never part of the main cannon, and any Jedi is pretty much just a bad ass, and they usually have some personal conflict to create some story. Maybe some of the extended cannon, which apparently isn't cannon anymore, did all that, but I'm not well versed on that. The Star Wars universe is more about the oppression of the corrupt vying for power, and people overcoming their own personal faults or fears to rise above. If races were looked down upon, it was usually because they weren't technologically advanced, and the ones that people most associate with were just another race oppressed by the empire, or something similar. If we want to attribute some sort of political slant to Star Wars, it would be that of an exploration of Xenophobia, not racism or prejudice.

Look, he might not be particularly memorable in terms of all the game characters out there, but he was a nice enough character with a bit of a sense of humour. I doubt many thought he was AWFUL, as the tagline implies. That's way too strong.

I agree with the article but I can understand why people are against such articles. He is the Nathan Drake of Star Wars, the spiritual successor of Skywalker, he is... incredibly boring 💤 and one-dimensional like Rey. I would have liked to see a more interesting hero or antihero IMHO.
