still waiting on that MGS HD Re-master collection ported over to the current gen.

Born2Game831914d ago

I would love a properly done Silent Hill / Castlevania Remaster Collection. I would buy that in a heartbeat. Come on Konami. Its easy money.

DVAcme1915d ago

Sports gamers are a blight. In order to get their sports game fix, they're willing to let so much bullshit slide and support the worst game companies' worst habits. Konami, EA and 2K are straight up victmizing them with tons of microtransactions, loot boxes and no substantive improvements between iterations of the games, and yet they still make fucktons of money off them because sports gamers are the biggest sheep in the gaming community.

2pacalypsenow1915d ago (Edited 1915d ago )

How is that any different that what Nintendo does with Mario Kart, Smash? I mean they add a few characters, moves, improve the graphics and add new maps.

How is that any different than FIFA Having updated rosters, some new moves and stadiums?

At the core, it's the same game, I know I'm going to get a ton of downvotes for this, but explain how this is any different?

pietro12121915d ago (Edited 1915d ago )

Well both Smash and Mario Kart aren't yearly releases like Sport games so there's that. There's more to those sequels than just new characters and maps. Changes to gameplay some bigger than others you can't say Brawl plays exactly like Ultimate or that Double Dash plays like 8 Deluxe. They also don't heavily rely on micro transactions

2pacalypsenow1915d ago (Edited 1915d ago )

So if those games were yearly releases, then it would be same?

So the only thing that separates them is the fact that FIFA releases every year, it has nothing to do with the game itself, its the release cycle? I can say the same thing about FIFA 12 not playing the same as FIFA 19.

Than doesn't disprove my point that they're basically the same thing. The only difference is the physiological one were people treat it differently based on the name and who makes it.

Also MT are only attached to one game mode.

PS. Thank you for keeping your response civil instead of throwing attacks like most people would.

pietro12121915d ago (Edited 1915d ago )

2pacalypsenow
Don't worry about it dude. There's no reason to call each names or thrown insults because of a disagreement.

Yeah, actually I don't yearly releases because of the bare bones updates (I stopped playing the NBA 2K series for that reason and the mircro transactions). I get that teams do get roster change ups, but those could be provided via dlc or a update. It doesn't really warrant another $60 release. I may be a bit bias though because I just hate EA and Konami (2K gets a pass from me haha atm) and I am fond of Nintendo.

King_Noctis1915d ago (Edited 1915d ago )

“How is that any different that what Nintendo does with Mario Kart, Smash?“

Where are the lootbox and microtransaction in those games? Because that was the discussion at hand from the OP. And please, reply to this question.

Also games like Mario Kart and Smash are once in a generation games. You don’t see those get yearly release or hell even a bi yearly release. Your hate for Nintendo is too much.

DVAcme1913d ago

Smash has been a once-a-generation series for Nintendo, and each entry has added a substantial amount of content. Same with Mario Kart. And Nintendo has never bombarded any of their games with lootboxes or microtransactions. Nintendo in no way, shape or form has ever been as predatory as EA, Konami or 2K. They're apples and oranges.

And I stand by my statement of sports gamers being sheep with this simple statement of fact: sports gamers rarely raise a stink about all the crap the companies pull on them, while, every time those same companies try that nickel-and-diming crap on any other genre of game, gamers riot. No sports game has ever received the amount of vitriol by its fanbase for abusive business practices the way games like Shadow of War, Fallout 76, GTA Online, Red Dead Online and Battlefront 2 did, not even close, and yet to any average gamer, the abuse in the sports game genre is blatantly, exponentially worse. But sports gamers are happy as hell being fleeced as long as they get their updated stats for Tom Brady, something that is just a matter of switching around a couple of zeroes and ones and could be released for free as an update if EA really wanted to. Sports gamers are completely complicit in game companies seeing them as walking wallets instead of actually spending effort to give them a worthwhile product.

2pacalypsenow1912d ago

Interesting.

So the biggest thing I read is loot boxes and yearly release, but nothing yet on the fact that the games are very similar with a few added features.

The biggest issue is that these companies sign exclusivity deals with the leagues so they have no competition. Making a football game knowing you won't be able to include EPL clubs, for example, is just... discouraging. If that wasn't an issue, lots of companies would be making football games since that's where the money's at.

Can't really blame companies like KONAMI or EA to try and get the rights of a league exclusively, what bothers me profoundly is that the leagues don't really think about their clubs' fans and come up with these lame deals.

Born2Game831914d ago

EA has had the FIFA license for years and years. You think that's fair? and now PES doesn't even have Champions League anymore.

Born2Game831914d ago (Edited 1914d ago )

If people want to buy a new FIFA or PES every year. Who the hell are you to say anything????? is it your money they are spending???? Hows it any different from buying a new Mario, COD, BF etc.

pietro12121914d ago

That was already mentioned in previous comments. Nobody was attacking anyone who buys the annual sport releases, but rather questioning the publishers practices.

New Game of Thrones Video Game In Development

Gravemaster writes: "Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire is a successful franchise, but it hasn’t had much luck when it comes to video games. Many were released, but only the one from Telltale games received more or less recognition and it was cancelled after one season anyway. Now, we have news of another Game of Thrones game in development."

What are they doing over there? Sounds like they canceled something big. I read a rumor a while back about ff9 remake . Here "Final Fantasy IX has gone through a very challenging development, the game is still in progress but may undergo changes drastic enough that we won't hear about it for a couple of years."
This could be one of the reasons if the rumor is true. That was Silknight i don't know how credible he is but it's something and it would make sense.

-Foxtrot22h ago

I hope IX is still on the cards

Just a straight up remake which they expand a little bit nothing over ambitious

If IX dosent happen then VI and VIII will never be thought of.

Kakashi Hatake11h ago

6 and 8 were way more p popular games despite today's cult following of 9.

TiredGamer20h ago

What are they doing? Sales are falling and the costs are out of control. Big releases need to be absolute sales home runs now, and Final Fantasy sales have stagnated.

Now we know why Square didn’t fall over themselves to remake the original FF7 all these years ago. It certainly wasn’t a license to print money, at least not with what the expectations were. Each of these full on remakes drains an enormous amount of company resources for a razor thin profit margin.

TwoPicklesGood20h ago

Breaking the game up into multiple parts was a mistake IMO.

blackblades19h ago

The loses came from cancelling games nothing else.

Tapani1h ago

They lost the magic in the remakes. And the story is incomplete. The original FF7 is still way better. The Remake / Rebirth are just fan service. Like an Anime/Manga with "optional" filler content. FF7 had pretty much zero filler, it was paced extremely well, and still today flows much better than the grindy story and spongey enemy battles in the remakes.

neutralgamer19921h ago

I hope people understand usually when a loss is declared it means a game which had been in development got cancelled. For example Sony Santa Monica before GOW-PS4 had cancelled a project which Sony had spent 7 figures on

As far as square is concerned they release a bad game once a year. Forspoken anyone?

For those making comments on remake not selling well, I hope y’all realize that Sony is the only reason this remake is happening. If Sony didn’t fund it the remake wouldn’t be happening. Just like Konami didn’t want to remake SH2 because development costs of 100 plus million

shadowT22h ago

Do not miss Final Fantasy 16. Great game!

raWfodog22h ago

I'm waiting for them to release the complete edition bundle, but it's definitely on my list.

PhillyDonJawn21h ago

Wth is going on with the gaming industry?

mandf20h ago

Corporate investors taking everything

TiredGamer20h ago

Not rocket science. Compare sales numbers, development cycles, and budgets to the previous gens. We are all collectively burning up the industry from the inside out. Expectations are ludicrously high now for every release and sales are dropping for even the most prestigious of series.

We used to be satisfied paying $50-60 for a game that took 1/100th the budget and staff to make. Now gamers feel cheated if they have to pay the same for a game that took 100x the budget. We may be reaching the end of the line for this model of gaming.

wiz719116h ago

@tiredgamer I think your point is one that ppl don’t understand and you hit it on the nose .. some gamers don’t want to take accountability but it’s some of the gamers fault the industry is where it’s at .. we as gamers set the standards for the industry not the shareholders , ppl forget that the shareholders and the industry want and need OUR Money. Both the Xbox and PlayStation are seeing a drop in hardware , the industry is very stagnant right now.

Tacoboto18h ago

Speaking to Square:

Turns out their mismanagement wasn't related to the western studios they dumped to Embracer, but their own fault.

With regards to Xbox - a good way to kill your brand is to pull support on high quality titles and only dump B and C-tier titles to it

With regards to PC - Epic Games Story exclusivity for any duration and piss-poor optimization will hurt you.

With regards to FF Pixel Remasters - y'all messed up by barely releasing them on physical, like wtf that was free money!

And lastly, you don't help a franchise by releasing a mainline title that undermines every title that came before it. FFXVI was a DMC-like with bottom-of-the-barrel side quests and I can't imagine that helping Rebirth at all considering its marketing is directly tied to how big that game is.

Tacoboto16h ago

Sony is getting their best titles and with the most polish, so what about it? Nintendo gets their top properties too, for titles that can run on Switch hardware.

It's the other fanbases that get the second- and third-class treatment from Square. If that's due to agreements with Sony, that's not a Sony issue but a Square one for accepting those terms. Sony is doing its best to look out for Sony.

TiredGamer21h ago

The industry implosion is continuing. Sky high budgets, prolonged development windows, stagnant sales numbers, and falling currency values (inflation) are wreaking havoc on the legacy industry. AAA games will slowly become the rarity.

CS721h ago

Sad. Rebirth was one of my favorite games in a long time. Should have sold more.

CrimsonWing6920h ago

Oh I’m with you. What’s worse is they can say, “Well we tried to make this amazing game and spend all this money on, but not enough people showed an interest. So no more of these since we can’t take a hit like that.”

The industry is going to take a dramatic shift. Mark my words on this.

rpvenom19h ago(Edited 19h ago)

I think there is quite a large portion of individuals like myself who held out on buying it on PS5 because I can get it on PC eventually. To be able to mod the game and also have custom graphical settings to my liking

gold_drake9h ago

same

but im not sure if it matters at all. im sure they made sony pay a hefty sum for the 3parter to come on ps5 exclusively. so watever they made in sales, might have come bk in profits for square, but i dont know
and we dont know what "underperformed" even means for square.

Wow too easy.

You went from MS going all streaming to selling gamepass content in which we all know they are.

Which one is it?

Pretty clear you don't know what a smart comment is at least you admit you don't know.

anast12h ago(Edited 12h ago)

"Another game pass event with their plans to go all streaming."

It's both. I would worry about your own intelligence at this point. It seems that there is not enough to go around for you to worry about how smart other people are.

Lightning7712h ago

It's just a regular event announcing games. Nice one captain obvious they're gonna mention gp stuff like they do every year what else is new.

The all streaming part is just you, being you I guess. They have streaming options but going all streaming again is just you pulling stuff outta thin air.

anast11h ago

You don't know what a smart comment is or isn't. You're welcome for the help.

Lightning778h ago

No you said something dumb then you tried to back track and mention GP.

Again make smart comments for once.
