A bold, risky new direction for God Of War series have paid off.

ClayRules20121982d ago (Edited 1982d ago )

God of War, just kicking some serious butt in 2018. Love it.

The last few years for Sony exclusives has just been incredible.

2016 we saw the release of the highly anticipated Uncharted 4: A Theif’s End. What a huge success that game was. A more grounded/personal story, with performances that are “in my opinion” the best in the series for Drake, Elena & Sully. Love Sam too. Overall, just a touching send off for Nathan Drake.

2017’s HZD really blew so many people away with its interesting & strong female character Aloy, along with a very well told story. Refreshing and oh so fun combat, fighting all those different types of Robo Dinosaurs. To it’s simply stunning/gorgeous open world, with the most amazing lighting system, use of colors, and that insane dense foliage, it was just the complete package for 2017 “in my opinion”

2018 brought us God of War, again. Only this time, it was in a different light/direction for the series. New everything across the board. It was risky & ambitious (one shot camera) along with bringing real depth to this know and loved character. I appreciate & applaud SSM for adding depth and emotion to him. A real masterpiece/work of art in visuals and overall game design etc...

I can’t wait for a sequel for God of War. Expectations are gonna be through the roof.

A Theif's End was incredible and I loved the more intimate approach and one of my favorite parts was when Nate, Sully and Sam walk into the hotel room to find Elena there. They've been chasing their past glories and he has been lying to his wife. She's looking at what they've been up to and as she turns, the look on her face was so impactful!

HZD had that same level of style but in an open world and I'm still impressed with what GG did with it. The story just drew me in from the beginning with a little Aloy and I had to find out what her story was and that last shot, all I can say is "WOW!"

Then they go and deliver GOW and boy did they deliver! I've sang its praises since the credits rolled but it is simply a game everyone should experience at least once! It deserves all the accolades it's receiving and I wonder what great experiences Sony has slated for 2019! Happy New Year man!

ClayRules20121982d ago (Edited 1982d ago )

Very well said. Yes, that more intimate approach is something i wanted since after Uncharted 3. That scene especially just hits hard. Drake’s lying really hurt her, and you just feel it.

Yeah, Guerrilla struck gold & really did their homework wirh Horizon. Wow indeed! What an experience. Loved Aloys story.

Your right, God of War absolutely deserves it! I wanna play it again & take more photos in photo mode.

2019 will be another great one for Sony & gamers on PS4! Thank you, Happy New Year to you too bud!

At least their readers got it right.

UCForce1982d ago

You can say that. I do like Red Dead Redemption 2 but the game have some problems that just feel outdated and annoying like the control (which is fine for me) feel too slow for some people and the survival element can feel frustrating and the story do have some pacing issues like Chapter 5 which feel out of place.

bigmalky1982d ago

Definite GotY. Happy New Year all, btw. May it be a good one for you all.

Wallstreet371982d ago

Happy New Years to you as well. Happy 2019 gaming, hopefully we get the new console reveals.

Nintendo be buying 6 year exclusivity windows up in here. Glad this game is FINALLY coming to Playstation

CrimsonWing692h ago

What’s weird is it was on Xbox… but then PS5 got Octopath 2 and Xbox didn’t 🤷‍♂️

ziggyzinfirion4h ago

I hope this is true and not just some error because I am really excited after reading this one.

FACTUAL evidence3h ago

Omg please let this be true! I literally was waiting for this before OT2 came out for ps4/5. I did not want to start it before I played 1. I know they are two different stories btw, but I just wanted the first platinum before I begin 2. Let this be real!

God of War Needs to Redefine Kratos' Purpose Clearly and Quickly

Whatever form the next God of War game takes, it needs to be clear about what role Kratos is playing, lest the franchise lose direction.

I'm pretty sure it'd be a major mistake having Atreus as the main character in the next GoW. Seems to me like at best people tolerate him and his gameplay sections.

Ideally the story for the next game would be that Atreus has gone missing in Egypt, Kratos gets mad about it, picks up Mimir and goes on a god killing rampage.

Mad_Matt8d ago

If that is an option for the dev team then they need to make it a clean slate. No Atreus, No Mimir. That's what happened when he changed pantheons before. Lets Kratos be in that world. But it will be a difficult task to complete. Kratos and his past demons are getting a bit redundant as far as story telling goes.

Nacho_Z7d ago

Yeah there's not a lot of meat left on the bone story wise. Personally I'd happily accept any goofy reason they could come up with for why Kratos is in Egypt chopping off heads. I'm personally not that bothered about the finer points of the storytelling, although they do it well.

The_Hooligan7d ago

I would still like to have Mimir in the next game. They (devs) can justify it by saying that Mimir wants to gain knowledge about other realms/pantheons. Also, personally I think Alastair Duncan did a great job as Mimir and would love to see the continuation of the small banters Kratos and Mimir had in the past games.

The point of Ragnarok's ending is to show that Atreus is his own man now. Having Daddy Kratos save him in Egypt after getting himself into trouble would just undo his entire character development.

Nacho_Z7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

The point was more to do with getting Atreus out of the way rather than him being saved. Let's say he's off on his own adventures then and invent another reason for Kratos to be in Egypt.

Could be that Kratos thinks he's been captured or killed as motivation but at the close of the game it turns out Atreus has been up to his own shady shenanigans.

They need to bring back the "God of War" in God of War. I was expecting to unleash hell and fury in Asgard against Thor that they really talked up in the first game but all we got was brooding middle aged dad drunk in a beer hall. Ragnarok was still "good" but I left that game expecting a lot more.

InUrFoxHole7d ago

Tried Rag... just couldn't get into it. Felt like more of the same. I would welcome a Kratos only game again.
