Fallout 4 VR resolution fix is now in steam beta

PC Aficionado: "The Fallout 4 VR release has not gone smooth, with many complaining of blurriness/low resolution. This is due to a bug that linked the game resolution to your desktop resolution. Many fixes have floated around mostly relying on you to upscale your desktop resolution. However, Bethesda have acted very quickly and released a beta fix."

I wonder if they will make a PSVR version, I mean because Fallout 4 wasn't visually impressive, and they were made Skyrim for PSVR.

Also, I wonder why they did VR in PC when PSVR is the lead selling platform..

Ace_Pheonix2325d ago

Uhh, because this game is a struggle for actual gaming machines to run really well. There's no way it'll run on a store bought kiddo toy.

Aggesan2325d ago

Don't be bitter. Atleast you got one good game now!

C-H-E-F2324d ago (Edited 2324d ago )

@ACE_PHEONIX
Then explain why Skyrim is on the PSVR and not on PC. I swear you freaking PC gamers are sooo annoying. Ya'll are the Trump administration to gaming. You can't even spell phoenix correct, I guess spelling is your struggle as well.

Ace_Pheonix2324d ago

@C-H-E-F

Because some other studio ported it to PSVR as a cash grab, it's not as performance demanding, and even at that has piss poor performance (as expected) and isn't really playable. It's also bought with timed exclusivity so eventually a version worth playing will come out. Not being bitter or annoying, just stating facts. Sorry if facts hurt your feelings. Why would I be bitter? I own a PS4, it does fine playing 1 or 2 exclusives and running Netflix. Making a statement like "PS4 has all the games and PC doesn't" just proves me responding at all is just a waste of my time.

Fallout 4 VR Is The Only Game I’ve Ever Requested A Steam Refund For

John Santina writes:
"Today, I requested my first ever (and hopefully last) Steam refund. I’ve bought hundreds of games on Steam – some good, some not so good – but have never felt the inclination to toss in the towel within 2-hours of gameplay. For context, I was able to overlook everything wrong with The Division at launch and actually played the darn thing – if you could survive that, you can survive almost anything."

It seems that the authors cpu is the bottleneck here with it being in the lower end towards the minimum required specs despite having a high end gpu.

He then goes on to write that he played skyrim just fine which needs a less powerful rig to run but still.

Basically cpu is not up to snuff to run fallout 4 vr above low settings despite having a capable gpu.

Ulf1944d ago (Edited 1944d ago )

I completely agree. Double the draw calls means double the CPU costs, unless they using instancing, etc..

His CPU is NOT up to running that game on high settings. I doubt Fallout 4 VR was written in DX12 -- if he wants to complain about what the devs did wrong, that should be his focus. His 3.5 GHz Haswell isn't going to cut it, unless the devs went to the trouble of multithreading the rendering, and chopping drawcall costs, via DX12.

The trouble with rewriting the whole rendering engine of a AAA game, to be CPU-friendly enough to hit 90 fps in VR, is that it costs a ton of money/time, and no VR port is going to spend more than they're going to make.

TrueMetal1944d ago

You are right about the CPU. I initially played Fallout 4 VR with a 5930k and a 1080 Ti and it didn't run well. Now with a 9900k and 2080 Ti it runs great. I believe it has more to do with the CPU than the GPU.

Ulf1944d ago

VR games are actually CPU bound, typically. Pushing a newer open-world game to high settings, in VR, is just a bad idea. As soon as you drop below 90 fps, you're gonna get ill.

If it's an open world game, and if the game isn't written in DX12 or Vulkan, where the CPU cost can be minimized, or the game isn't an older title that expected less from the CPU, you shouldn't VR, IMO.

Win10 Minecraft (not the crappy Java mod, where you have to chop the draw distance to something pathetic to hit 90 fps) is probably the best open world VR experience in existence, and there are plenty of people who suffer from motion sickness with it, as well -- probably because they think they can play Minecraft at super draw distance (or worse, without the modified VR movement settings), even though it's VR, not realizing that Minecraft is a DX11 game, and pushing the draw distance too far is just gonna make you sick.

ibrake4naps1943d ago

I loved it! Tied with resident evil 7 for favorite vr game. If you can run it and love fallout, get it!

ChrisW1943d ago

Any free roaming VR game makes me feel ill... That's why I eat a bunch of ginger before I playing (see Mythbusters about this).

porkChop1943d ago

Ginger helps with motion sickness? Do you just eat raw ginger or how do you prepare it?

ChrisW1941d ago (Edited 1941d ago )

I eat mine pickled, but that's because I live in Japan and grab several packs of them when I buy sushi at grocery stores.

I believe Mythbusters said that they had it as a tea.
