Star Wars Battlefront II - Is It Really Pay To Win? | The Good and The Bad

Lex: It’s been quite entertaining for the past few days over at Reddit. Everyone has been coming from all sides to get back at Electronic Arts and DICE for the inclusion of loot crates, limiting a mode, and the pay-to-win approach just like what we see most of the time in free-to-play games on mobile.

What the other outlets said about Star Wars Battlefront II being a hard-ass grind, that’s true, but for the calculation of hours in getting the base contents unlocked is not something I’m leaning on at the moment.

I took some time in digging and going through the Star Cards and played a decent amount of hours in the multiplayer. Here are the good and bad things of the overall game itself.

Mass Effect Andromeda and I've already pre-ordered Battlefront 2

I've had lots of fun with this Publishers games this generation.

Will keep playing games for fun.

Wow, an actually temperate, measured opinion on the game and its features. Awesome.

In my personal experience, working together with your teammates, supporting each other, is what weighs the most in determining victory. I've been in teams that work together and accomplish objectives quickly... and I've been in others were the members of the squad you're assigned to when respawning run in different directions, apparently all of them thinking they can take the entire enemy team on their own (Would they please stop running straight into the enemy's line of fire and instead try flanking the objective?)

I have almost no Star Cards yet, and off the top of my head, my victory/defeat rate is around 50/50. I'm learning to play as the different troopers, Officers being my current favorite (I'd rather boost others who are better at aiming than I am). Hopefully I'll become better with time and help my teams further.

I agree. It isn’t just rampant hatred. Expect BAttlefield to have paid dlc next year.

wirh the TitanFall 2 and Battlefront 2 not having season pass or DLC and being all for free I actually think it's very likely Battlefield 5 is going to be the same.

Battlefield always has premium which is paid DLC

My problem is all things being equal the star cards would swing victory... i did read they take into account your performance and star cards for match making. are you saying you think the matchmaking does a good job of balancing star cards and skill for each team?

For what I've experienced, yeah. It's actually a good balance.

Whenever an enemy player defeats you, you're also shown which Star Cards they have equipped. In my case I've faced several players that already have Epic Star Cards, yet my team and I are able to win matches despite facing buffed players.

As I've said before, teammates working together and supporting each other is more decisive than Star Cards. It won't matter if you have Epic Health Regeneration if you walk right into three or four people working together and all of them gun you down almost instantly.

It's just a theory, but perhaps having Star Cards cause some players to think of themselves as unstoppable badasses that don't need to work with others to win... and it leads them to going alone and being slaughtered by squads of the opposing team.
