While the PlayStation 4 has done incredibly well this generation and the Xbox One X is the most powerful console ever created, the Nintendo Switch is a console unlike any other. As a result, the Switch could be the best console of the generation due to various reasons.

I agree that the PS4 is the best console this gen. Microsoft has made little to no effort in securing a solid exclusive lineup and that God damn UI is just horrible to use. And to put things into perspective I was a huge 360 fanboy, but they messed up this time around.

I absolutely love the Switch but for me it's a handheld first and a home console second, just like how you could connect your psp to a TV with a cable but with added resolution bump when docked

Look, as much as I like the Switch, it has it's flaws and it's only just started out pretty much. In good faith, I can only accept that the PS4 had the best performance this gen, don't forget how badly the WiiU did (it actually did worse than the Xone, despite the fact I think it had better games overall).

Two console manufacturers having their worst gen by far vs Sony who have had an outstanding gen comparable to the PS2 era. Zelda is the ONLY reason to have a switch right now. It's not a great game, its pretty good. Its great for the switch because it has 0 other games to compete with. The Witcher, Divinity, Horizon, etc. are all much better and well crafted games than Zelda. If anyone reviewed Zelda with the level of scrutiny games for adults get, it would be a 7 at best.

Ps4 hands down. Best console I've ever had. It's online works consistently. Chatting and streaming is so easy. Sales are plentiful and games are cheaper. The exclusives are better.

Who the hell said anything about Knack? I'm talking about botw from personal experience on my Switch FFS. Knack 1 was ok, not the best, certainly not the worst. I haven't played the second one..
Pros:
+ Looks nice for a handheld
+ its a zelda game
+ sometimes you can use your powers to solve puzzles in and out of combat and it feels good
+ chopping down trees is extremely satisfying for some reason
Cons:
- Empty world
- mostly meaningless crafting
- breaking weapons dont seem to break when enemies use them. why does link keep breaking his things?
- insanely easy puzzles
- boring story / characters and with inconsistent dialogue(sometimes text, sometimes spoken)
- controls(though this is probably admittedly less of an issue if you only play Nintendo)

I've got Zelda, Rabbids and that Pokemon fighting game I can never remember the name of.
Zelda is OK, Rabbids is meh, and Mortal Pokemon is pretty good. Nothing else to me justifies the price of the software. Way overpriced for updated WiiU games. I'm REALLY hoping the Mario game makes it worth it. So far I'm a little underwhelmed.

another problem for me is the price of the games...bomberman was £55 i think and very much plays like an indie. i mean if they sell skyrim for £55, i don't think it'll sell as well as they think.

It's all a matter of opinion, I'm enjoying my switch about as much as I enjoy my PS4, the games on it right now appeal to m even if they're mostly Nintendo's first party, and Switch exclusive indie games like Golf Story.

Well Mario + Rabbids is actually 3rd party, but you know what I mean. That said I mostly game on PC anyway so the switch complements it fine, i'm mostly using my PS4 for exclusives these days, and my Xbox for TV stuff.

The Switch is a fancy souped up WIiU that utilises its huge name in handhelds, which will also help it in Japan. I hoped that the Switch would see a return to Gamecube levels of variety of exclusive games. I don't see any evidence of that happening. As the Hudsucker Proxy said, Nintendo remain mostly content to be 'You know, for kids' and the kids at heart. They expand a small handful of their core games to incorporate aspects of what Sony and Microsoft consoles offer but everything else feels like do as little as can make most profit. So WiiU ports will drip down. Third party ports of games that are a few years old. A small handful of niche games to give the impression of catering for the artsy gamer. But nothing like Detroit: Beyond Human in the works. No great announcement like the 'Capcom 5' that was on Gamecube. Even Splatoon has never excited me close to what the aesthetically kind of similar Sunset Overdrive did. We continue to pay for the Gamecube not selling well, by Nintendo's conservatism. I don't want GTA on Switch. But I do want interesting games that aren't purely a Japanese, or Japanese-style, aesthetic.

I strongly disagree, the library is far too small and the system software still needs tons of additions. We can't even copy game data from the internal storage to the SD card yet. Plus then there's the disaster of an online setup and the fact that the hardware simply will not be able to accommodate many current-generation games.

Strongly disagree. It makes way too many sacrifices as a console to be portable and I gotta be honest, portability is a really low priority for me. It is the weakest hardware with the least number of features, a laughable online service and the biggest games coming up won’t be released on Switch. The ones that are (like FIFA and Doom) are completely lackluster or gimped compared to other versions.

I own the Switch (even ordered a second set of bright yellow joycon), the PS4 Pro and the Xbox One S (soon to be X). I say this completely non biased and absolutely from my own real world experience - the Switch rarely if ever gets used and it’s absolutely the result of the other 2 better systems sitting right next to it. This is my second Nintendo console after GBA and I am playing Zelda currently, it's pretty enjoyable. I have a PC and a PS4 as well and while PC has it's share of CSGO, ARMA and some RTS from my time, the PS4 has a few handful of games that I enjoyed (Including remasters)- Persona 5, Yakuza 0, Infamous Second Son, Bloodborne and Nioh(Which is no more exclusive)

I think it'll solely depend on how Mario Odessey and Xenoblade are. Zelda is a solid 8-8.5 for me and if Mario & Zeno are 9+ for me then I guess it'll be the better system in it's first year. I'll wait and watch whether any of them surpasses either Persona 5 or Nier: Automata for me.

The switch has hardly been out 2 mins fgs. It has a tiny library, hardly any 3rd party's and hardly any 3rd party commitment yet. Is underpowered with crappy online, crappy memory and crappy resolution. All this but its the best console this gen?

Yes, those it does have are far and away behind everything else. Doom is literally the easiest running AAA game this generation and it still is massively compromised. Does it look 'decent' with 30 FPS and dips... yep.

But the game can easily run at 160-200FPS with massively higher settings on PC. Hell it's easy to get 4k/60 on that game. It runs rock solid on PS4/XB1.

It's not even a 'console'. It's a handheld that can plug into the tv. It also costs way more then a PS4/XB1S. Hell after you buy a pro controller, 128gb memory stick, carrying case, plus whatever spider web of peripherals you need to play online outside you might as well buy an PS4 Pro or X1X because it's almost the same price.

Switch is fine for what it is, but it's a niche product with limited games. It's hilarious that bottom barrel games get AAA treatment from it's fans. 18 games this week! Only one of note is Fifa 18 and the #1 game is Golf Story. Sorry guys, those are niche, 8 bit, indie games and non-fully functional Fifa 18. I'm sure for their niche they are good, but it's niche.

Also we don't even know how well demand will keep up with Switch yet. 6 or so million sold means all the hardcore buy anything Nintendo still has yet to get one.

People will say ps4 because of its exclusives but then that does not make it the best console does it because those exclusives are games and not a console lol..

The best console means exactly that doesn't matter what games it has now, if this was a best exclusives topic then yeah ps4 wins.

The Xbox one X, the work that ms, there engineers and tech teams have done although it's not arrived yet, May be the best console to arrive this gen hands down once it's in people's hands time will tell.

I say that because of X's design, architecture, power, look and how small it really actually is for what it has inside..
