It doesn't matter. Common sense will tell you that the majority of Scorpio purchases are existing xbox one users that have probably bought both the OG xbone as well as the S because they're diehard. MS isn't make a bunch of new fans with this release, they're just milking their smaller existing fanbase for even more money. Imagine dropping $499 for the xbone, $399 for the S, $149 for a stupid controller and another $499 for the scorpio. MS thanks the plebs.

4k tvs are now the norm at stores. Without HDR u can get for as.little as 250$, I got mine last November. 55in 4k HDR with local dimming for 450 using a sale plus another discount

I think his point was that it was marginally outselling the xbox 360 for the first 2-3 years , not just with preorders. This year sales have slowed So the 360 now has more sales in the same timespan. But have sales slowed due to lack of exclusives or due to people waiting for xbox x. My guess is both.

Well unless there is some way of seeing into the future, this is the case with every new product.
Given all of that though, I THINK the X has released at the perfect time for it to do very well.
I will follow that comment with why I have such an opinion, knowing that many will disagree.
The first is the fact that it is substantially more powerful than the Pro. Next 4K is the visual standard that even PC gamers are trying to achieve (It is the thing when cards are mentioned). 4K TV's are what people are upgrading to. I can tell you the during Football season and the holidays they will fly off shelves by the millions. Lastly, the X is not just the easiest way to get a good 4K experience, its also the best way to play 1080p on any console. It will have down sampling with high quality textures, much faster load times and more stable framerates.

Compared to the Pro, the X might have a substantial advantage in terms of consistency with its power to output a high resolution. I feel the X can do well for the reasons you mentioned when it comes to its multiplats and exclusives, that is without a doubt.However, I don’t think the Xbox can realistically come back this generation to win, but save face from the first half of it. I think the X will set the bar going forward in terms of what the PS5 must deliver.

Exactly how can any company pin their success on pre--orders? Pre-order get cancelled as quickly as they are made! A true representation of a products success doesn't come until that product has been on the market for a substantial amount of time. One only has to reference the WII U to substantiate that fact.

The Ps4 pro had good preorders and good dev intially support and pretty good games. Now devs are pretty much not using the Pro to its potential and I doubt they will with the XboneX either. I like the idea of the XboneX and my hats off to MS on the price and preformance but I think the XboneX will fall prey to exactly what other platforms have when there is a cheaper platform that does pretty the samething people chose the cheaper option.

People didn't only go with the PS4 because of its power! That's a fallacy that gamers are running with. Just like so many on these boards think the Xbox 360 fanbase was 84 million gamers!? Not even close.

Here's the thing last generation would have turned out pretty much like this generation if the PS3 for 1 hadn't been delayed, and 2 didn't start off as a $600 console! But even though those 2 issues had a impact on the PS3 sales it still caught up. Why is that!? A bigger fanbase and experience period!

Looking at PS4 now, those who supported Xbox 360 last gen because the PS3 was delayed and cost $600 returned to the PlayStation ecosystem this generation have for the most part continued to support the PlayStation ecosystem even though owning a Microsoft platform, but it's obvious the numbers don't lie.

The point is as far as the PS4 selling the way it has is technically nothing new! For those who have been involved in previous generation's, the PS1, PS2 and now the PS4 all did it! Also popular to most people belief the PS3 wasn't a slouch either when it came to Worldwide sales. The PS4 isn't the powerhouse in sales because of sales! It's a powerhouse because of Exclusive content only found on a PlayStation platform. It's a powerhouse because of price. It's a powerhouse because of Fanbase. It's a powerhouse because of diversity. Now arguably many including myself enjoy it for the time being, being more powerful than every other console. It was never and will never be a prerequisite for it sustainability!

I pre ordered the one x... I am not even going to talk about new first party games because those aren't gonna happen immediately.

Microsoft needs to put out the best games with gold lineups every single month and discount gold to 49.99. If they do that they will win some much needed good faith in between now and first party titles. Sony did that when they announced ps plus and consistently put out worthwhile titles. We are four years into this gen... Microsoft has a large enough library to choose from for monthly gold games. In November Halo 5 should be a gold title, not only for the fact that it costs less than 20 everywhere but it will show off its enhanced edition.

For those that say the Xbox1X is "substantially more powerful than the pro" id agree with that statement if the X could even do 1400 checkerboard 4k **60 fps**. The fact is, it cant. Ms went big on some aspects of the X and then gimped the console when they went with a overclocked gpu (jaguar) from 2013.

Like others have said, its not even a debate, the ps4 is a runaway success and slaughtering the xb1s in almost every aspect.

2. Attatch rate
3. Hardware sales
4. Software sales

I think the X will do similarly to that of the xb1/xb1slim. Playstation does its best work when the competition is firing on all cylinders. If all the 1x is vs the pro, is 1800 cb-4k native at 30 fps, i think most switch and ps4 owners will stay where they are at. The majority of X sales are prob from Xb1s owners... Once the X burns through most of those gamers who knows... It could be doa after it sells to half the xb1s crowd.

it needs software support and must have games. Look we as core gamers buy this mid gen upgrades but casuals see no reason to upgrade that's why majority of consoles sold will always be ps4 slim and xbox s(even phil said that around e3)

right now all the talk is about graphics but what is the long term play/outlook for xbox brand another halo, gears or forza won't do. I really hope they do a proper fable game that would look/play amazing on X. I also hope this extra time goes to crackdown development well i don't mind waiting till next fall but please treat it like a major AAA IP instead of an after thought. talk to insomniac about doing another sunset overdrive but since insomniac owns the IP i am not sure if they are really up since SSOD didn't sell that well and right now they are working on spiderman and have a dedicated team for ratchet and clank

back when THQ was for sale and their Ip's went for dirt cheap i thought both ms and sony should have bought some IP's but it never happened. one thing MS needs to look at is nintendo they have survived without 3rd party support for decades just because of how strong their 1st/2nd party studios are, that's where phil needs to invest and get some studios. I truly believe scalebound will be brought back towards the end of this gen as a xbox X and xbox 2 exclusives. the only reason it was cancelled is because it couldn't run on current hardware so what do you all think any chance they will re started development on it? would you have a problem if MS comes out and says this game isn't possible on xbox s and will be a X exclusive

i am a huge ps fan but love the fable IP and i think it is a mistake on MS's behalf that the IP is being put aside

If scalebounds fate was always to be an Xb1X title, the franchise could have had a better future being delayed than canceled... Most ppl that were hype for that game have forgotten all about it.

But i agree with everything else you said about the X. Ms would be doing amazing if only a quarter of the xb1/slim crowd upgraded to the X ~8 million... For those thinking the X will turn things around in the 8th gen for ms simply dont understand the casuals outweigh the hardcore by a huge margin (like you said). Without a steady drip of 1st party exclusives all year long the 1x could lose its momentum 6-12 months after release.

Microsoft's strategy is quite simple really. They made the X so it is the best way to play multi plats. In terms of profit, this will make up for a lack of exclusives in the short-term. The incoming exclusives next year (hopefully) will cause even more of a shift for people towards the One X. I personally have pre-ordered the Project Scorpio edition and cannot wait.
