I still think if your going to purchase a PS4 or and X1 it's bset to purchase the original PS4 and the X slim. The Slim is getting dwarfed but I still think it's a pretty nice piece of tech. They are making a HUGE mistake by not keeping the Slim relevant.

Sony had it's strongest holiday of sales ever last holiday. Probably part of it was due to PS4P, but only about 20% of the consoles sold were that version, however, actual sales for that period were up more than 20% from the years prior. They had record software sales as well.

Where is this notion that people were waiting it out for PS4P coming from? For the most part, Sony's reported PS4 sales have been pretty consistent YOY, with spikes when big games drop, and then the big spike when they released the PS4P.

GS is always pleased or excited over new hardware launching. It tends to push business into their store. I've never seen them say bad things about new hardware....even the WiiU.

If something wasn't selling well, they wouldn't say so, because it doesn't help them sell systems if people think something isn't that popular, or they can easily wait it out to buy.

this will not win this generation for Microsoft but it does help them going forward
and the biggest thing to take away from this is Microsoft has realized in today's market power does matter

xsta1ker - that's where your wrong, a few frames here and there, a little pop- in means nothing. The PS3 overtook the 360 because of exclusives, MS watching their lead dwindle year on year didn't wake them up to this fact.

But we have the most sales for COD and exclusive rights blah blah. Now Sony has that in the arsenal as well as exclusives.

MS are just looking for the easy way, they'll spend more on advertising/marketing than actual game development.

They are, and will always be 3rd in console gamers eyes.

the gap is now over 30mil units worldwide. by the time the XboneX is out, I guess it will easily be over 35mil by then. the only way for the xbone to "be a quite a bit closer to Sony's consoles than most people thought possible" like you said is for it to start outselling the PS4 heavily or the gap is only gonna get wider. but how? I can't see the X selling well aside from the US and maybe UK but that's about it. I think instead of looking at the PS4, MS should be looking out for the Switch or how to at least get to 50 mil at the rate that they are selling.

I think you better lower your expectation as this gen is already done and dusted. the X is just another excuse for MS to save face this gen. I think they just wanna end the gen with at least "the most powerful console" title in the bag. they are outsold heavily, game sales have been tremendously huge in the PS4's favor and even their once most bragged exclusives in Halo and Gears are not selling gangbusters as they did last gen. I remember last gen when xbox fanboys were calling Uncharted as ripping of Gears's cover mechanic and it will never sell Halo numbers only to be humiliated this gen by UC4. ahh...good times! but hey...at least they have the most power now, right?

Apart from a couple of months here and there Sony have had the sales over the standard Xbox one but even 30 million consoles sold is a heck of a lot.

I don't think this gen ms can catch up in sales, but they could certainly close the gap by a fair amount if the x1x sells well and it seems preorders are doing great, much better than what the fanboys and haters predicted anyway shame on them all.

Well, it's not a surprise. The old fan of Microsoft are going to change their system with the new one. I guess not so many "new console players" have pre-ordered it. If on 30 millions (random number) of Xbone users 5 millions are going to change the system ad buy the Xbonex, you have 5 millions of units sold. But after that? When everyone has changed the system, who's gonna buy an overpriced console that plays the same games of the old ones (with better graphics ok, but doesn't offer anything else)?
The PS4 Pro effect was about the same. Now the Slim sells a lot and the Pro sells.. mh.. normally? I didn't analyze sorry :P

It's really hard to say, because the forums I visit don't tend to get a lot of new people visiting it to really gauge how people outside the Xbox fan base may think of it. I don't see a lot of talk about the system outside the Xbox fan base though, which is atypical for new hardware that may have widespread appeal.

OT - it's nice to see the Xbox trying to gain some pace against PlayStation, and competition is good, but I don't think the new Xbox is going to create such an impact as expected. The new Forza looks really nice and I'm sure will play great. They need more than just that and a couple of other exclusive titles though... in my opinion.

I still have my doubt Microsoft will come top in any NPD this year to be honest. If Sony do a price drop around November time on both the Pro and Slim then even the XOX release that won't help Microsoft come top in NPD. If Nintendo get there act together and put more Switch consoles in stores in time for Christmas I can see that being the top selling console for November/December.

I think the best thing Sony could do to draw attention away from X1X launch is to release a $300 PS4P bundle with one or more of their high profile games. GT:S will likely help as well. The stock consoles I don't think are really in the running for competing with the mid-gens in this regard, as they're getting to the casual price point, and $199 is likely coming pretty soon. Anyhow, a $200 price difference would make it really hard for people to justify the power increase as worth it. $100 could be more of an on the fence thing for a lot of people, because $100 more isn't really that much....kind of like how the PS4P wasn't that much more than the PS4 when it released, so I could see people spending a bit more.

Sony at the moment have 3 top bundles releasing soon and 2 of them are Pro bundles. First up is the white PS4 Pro Destiny 2 bundle coming early next month. Here in the UK it's £350 for this bundle plus also includes Destiny 2 season pass. This whole bundle is the same RRP as a standalone PS4 Pro console.

Then you have the FIFA 18 Pro bundle. Which comes with the £80 Ronaldo Edition. Price is £399 so £50 more than the Destiny bundle but if someone wants both the Ronaldo edition and a PS4 Pro that bundle will save them £30.

Then you have the PS4 GT Sport Slim bundle. Comes with the special edition of the game. GT is very big here in the UK and I can see a lot of people getting this bundle (console looks very nice).

Then I imagine come November Sony will have a bundle maybe even a special edition pro bundle for Call Of Duty and Star Wars Battlefront 2.

Was pretty clear the standard Xbox One was under performing all year long compared to the PS4. I don't know how much of this you hang on the fact that they announced X1X launching this year. Sure you had some holding off but I think in general the year has been a struggle for the standard Xbox regardless. MS needed a boost..X1X gives them a nice boost but they will still have work to do. Sony of course should continue on the current path but I do wonder if they will at some point do some promos around the Pro this year.
