According to Guerrilla Games’ managing director, Hermen Hulst, it’s too early to make announcements about the future of Killzone.
i feel like they should reboot the franchise. the story seems to be going way far off...
I think exactly the same. Take their time on Horizons sequel, make a new IP (maybe a second team) after, then give us Horizon 3 and the second team can give us a Killzone reboot. I'd like to see the story be more personal, I'm sick of these types of games having us be some soldier in a team and we head out to defeat the big bad. How about some ordinary everyday guy who was a soldier but is a family man now and one day on a peaceful sunny afternoon in his suburban neighborhood Earth is attacked by the Helghan after things heated up during first contact (ISA wanted to colonize a planet right next to Helghan).
Sounds a lot like Resistance 3
Shadowfall had a pretty personal story.
The set up for Shadow Fall was unbelievably stupid, yes let's forcibly evict our citizens and give them like 5 minutes notice...if you're to slow a Helghan might gun you down. Now let's put economic sanctions on these people, we also shouldnt keep an eye on Helghan, nothing could possibly be happening there. I really love the design of the enemies, weapons, environments etc. The issue lies around almost everything else to varying degree of severity.
A reboot seems the way to go, perhaps a prequel.
I would said Killzone Mercenary sequel, because the game got a good recognition.
@UCForce The best game on the PSVita, Killzone Mercenary was set between Killzone 2 and 3
I mean after horizon zero dawn, it's pretty obvious that that they have better storytellers at guerrilla games now, and a game like killzone with very unique intimidating enemies, it deserves a good story.
reboot? we got one early this gen.
They should make Killzone 5 for PS5. PS4 is now loaded with fps games... too much of them.
The PS4 is loaded with all types of games, there is no such thing as to much of anything.
PS4 is loaded with 3p fps but none to call thier own.
That's just immature comment.
Killzone 5 is in the books but take your time
I think that's a good think. With the success of Horizon Zero Dawn they showed us they can make more than FPS games. Someday I want another Killzone but for now let them work on other great games
Wonder what a Killzone open world game would be like? They have the engine to do something like that but I'm not sure if it's a good idea.
Ya, after thinking about it I dont think it would be a good idea.
Yeah, not everything needs to be open world. I would forgive you for the suggestion though since this is really the open world generation. Not that open world is an issue in and of itself, I just don't think every developer can do it. Horizon and The Witcher 3 are, in my opinion, the best of them where you have an interesting narrative and varied side quests. It's a tough balance to strike, but, despite Horizon being fantastic, I have no confidence in Guerrilla making an open world Killzone.
Every game is open world in a way people wouldnt complain if you said "by the way you can go in that direction for miles and miles",
They would if there was nothing to do in all those extra miles.
@Kallisti but they didnt even play it do why would they complain, and why ALL OF A SUDDEN do they change their tune IF there was something to do in the first place? Thought they said they need no open world, but all of a sudden there better be something to do in that open world......but they said they dont want it do regardless why would they be checking it out........
It would be like HZD...
Open world is boring and killing gaming in general. So are RPGs. If I wanted to play with menus I'd load up windows on my PC. And Shadowfall was great for the record I enjoyed the campaign and multiplayer...it was the first game that showed off what the PS4 could do at launch.
I like the franchise
Should've kept Guerilla: Cambridge open and let them make a sequel to Killzone: Mercenary for the PS4. Like Gravity Rush from the Vita got a PS4 sequel.
Perfect sense. Sony will forever be criticised for that move. GC should have gotten the chance for a Killzone Mercenary sequel and it most like would have been a success.
Killzone Mercenary was set between Killzone 2 and 3
True but the main character wasn't in any other games, so they could still have had a sequel with him doing whatever while 3 was happening, or they could have even done a prequel. Regardless I would've liked to see the same team make another Killzone, Mercenary's campaign was arguably better than Shadow Fall's.
I would love a reboot. Or atleast a remaster of Killzone 2, which to me is by far the best game in the series.
I hope they go back to a war setting.
Remaster KZ2 to possibly make a profit and see how strong the user base is. Then determine if a sequel should be made.
I like this kind of game. I can play it all day without being bored
No more killzone! make another new IP.
they have, its called horizon zero dawn.....
"another new IP."
I said another one
They need an epic battle of helghast wars. You see all those soilders yet you dont fight but 50- at a time. This needs to be a future war game with big battles, idk why they havent done that. The cinematics made the game look like it could play that way but it doesnt. Its fun story but has much more potential
Graphic fidelity combined with that much AI doesn't bode well for performance I'm afraid. I eeven think your less than 50 enemies is a bit generous. There was a game called Darkest of Days that attempted this kind of larger scale battles but with a heavy LoD and AI dumb as rocks, it's pretty difficult to stick 100 enemies in an environment and have them all operate intelligently or at least like Humans. If you want BIG battles a concession is going to made, and unfortunately visuals drive those pre orders.
Even if it was part of cgi or quicktime events if would improve the feeling of the battles/world. They need to make the game gritty dark dirty more than any war film has shown "why not make a wwll game?" you say, because the helghast and their atmosphere, etc cant be shown in a wwll game. dayz gone has thousands of walkers on screen its just 3rd person. They can achieve something similar at very least. imo even if they gotta wait for ps5
Days gone doesn't have the Zombies making tactical decisions, they basically operate like water. It's not about rendering that many characters on screen, it's about making them move and operate like a person in a war would. That's much harder than a bunch of zombies running towards a sound source. Then you started saying "Gritty dark and dirty" and you pretty much lost me, the games have always been dark and gritty I'm really not sure what you're getting at. When you say even if it was CGI or Quicktime events just like with Killzone 2 and Killzone 3 all the cut scenes did was point out how kinda empty and lonely your fight was compared to what was supposedly going on around you. Why highlight what you can't do with a CGI or Quicktime events? It just drags down the actual game play. Getting a hundred friendlies, a hundred enemies to play nice all while having the signature Guerilla Games level of visual fidelity isn't an easy thing.
Thats because days gone isnt a military game... Days gone non 'zombies' make smart decisions though.... I know the game has always been gritty, but its NOTHING compared to hollywood gritty, and the graphics really arent as rugged as other AAA ps4 dev technology so you lost me there, not sure how much you keep up with games but Killzone without a doubt can be MUCH MORE gritty, dark, and have better graphics. Show me what you think killzone 'gritty' looks like and I'll show you a clip from a movie and even a game that does better than what it does...shoot....motorstorm is more gritty than killzone.... You arent thinking about it all the way. The scenes during UC4 for instance, have 'background QuickTime events' but ND handles it like a boss. GOW has it too. Not gameplay dragged down, as these games were the most epic and engaging experiences I've played.. Dont doubt what Guerilla can do. It is achievable.
Make a Killzone game where you play as a member of the Helghast in the campaign
Killzone Mercenary technically had you fighting with both the ISA and Helghast in the campaign
hey guerilla, how about creating something fresh?
It's called HZD.
Make that game.
Baffles me how this launch title still looks better than a lot of games getting released 4 years later as average as the game was.
IMO i would want to see a 64player online focused game, kinda in-line with BF4. Conflicts on Vekta and Helghan. dropships, mechs, tanks, jetpacks and lots and lots of guns from all the games so far.
Warhawk meets Killzone. That would be very fun.
I loved the killzone franchise (never played the first one tho). I think both it and Resistance were amazing... it's too bad there are no first party fps games on playstation anymore.
Please just give me KZ2 1080p60 in the meantime. Please.
The next Killzone should be a launch PS5 title.
I daresay Killzone will be back at some point. Killzone 5 may well be one of the games to be released when PS5 comes out, The franchise is too popular to abandon. Killzone 2 was the best one in my opinion but 3 wasn't bad either. Shadow Fall was more a showcase for graphics quality and not as good as it should have been and the story was weak.
How about they release a 'Killzone Kollection' running at 1080/60 and some Pro specific enhancements as well? Same for the Resistance series by Insomniac. Those two series were to me better than Halo and Gears in many ways last gen and if they could do that I think myself and many mothers would buy them asap.
KZ2, KZ4 - best multiplayer games ever!!!
I'd love another Killzone this gen
