With the Switch, Portable Isn't Always Practical

It's awesome that the Switch is portable, but that doesn't always mean it's practical to travel with the system.

Using it a few times, I would disagree at it being "bulky".

Switch from what I've played, is very, very slim and like a slightly bigger PS Vita. Very thin and lighter then I thought.

I've been able to use the PSP (Fat mind you) and the 3DS and 3DS XL a few times and NEVER had a problem with travel.

"The Switch, though, especially in its padded zip-up sleeve, made the bag just a little too bulky"

Ummmmm ok.

So you are basing this on having a small bag? If you can't fit the Switch, but you can fit the Vita or 3DS in that bag, it actually means you likely can BARELY fit them in the bag in the first place, I NEVER put any device in a part of a bag that is near the outside (ie outer pocket), if it can fit ,yet a Switch can't, it means you have very little room in the area in the first place. The Switch is only slightly larger then the PS Vita and 3DS XL.

Soooooo I'm not seeing the issue.

"That shoulder bag had way too much stuff in it, and the Switch was the tipping point"

ok...thats a great story bro, so get a bigger bag. The Switch is not THAT much bigger then other portables to even really be crying over this, a lot of this sounds like its on you too (like all of it) lol.

The battery will get better with different versions, other options exist for battery and PS Vita's battery life is like 3 hours too. Sooooooo help me really, really understand how someone is having an issue with the Switch, that they technically can have with PS Vita, 3DS XL or any other portable?

whaaaaaat.. speaking nicely about the Switch? What did you do with EDMIX? :P

It's true what you said though. Although depending on the case it can get a little bulky. But nothing alarmingly bigger than a Vita or 3DS XL. And when you take the joycons off the sides of this thing, it is ridiculously small when it's just the screen.

Yea EDMIX is usually against it lol. But thanks for the support and an in depth comment of some things people fail to realize.

@Neo- lol

I don't hate the system. I don't care for Nintendo as a publisher or as a business, but I think I feel that way about a lot of companies. I still want the system and still feel this article is just way, way too exaggerative

This device is not bulky, its not too big, I just don't agree with that statement made in this article from what I've played of it. Its very sleek, very thin, light etc. I don't get how this person is saying such things when its WAY more powerful then Vita, yet only slightly bigger then it. The joycons off, its basically the size of many phones, handhelds etc.

Now I don't again care for how Nintendo does business many times, it doesn't mean I'm going to lie about how I feel about the Switch. I still plan to buy one and I still feel its as sleek and functional as the PS Vita or 3DS XL.

@Super- lol yes folks, I don't really hate the Switch, in fact I like it very much. The concept of being able to get all Nintendo games in 1 spot is something I've wanted for years. Wii U might be the only Nintendo system I'll never own, but I still played Breath Of The Wild on a friend's Wii U. You'll find that lots of Nintendo fans might be in this situation. I'm not saying the company is doing a slam dunk, but I'm not saying I hate the device either.

I think many don't understand that you can disagree with a company on some level and still like what it does on other levels. I know lots of Nintendo fans are like this, we feel this way because we liked the company a lot in the first place. I don't care for what I saw from Star Fox Zero same way someone who used to like DMC didn't like what they did with DMC2 or how a RE fan might not like what they did with RE5-6 etc. Doesn't mean we hate Capcom or RE, simply don't agree with how a series we like is being handled. I'll be the first to tell you how much I don't like how Capcom is treating their IP, but its because I like their IP in the first place. I'm not out here telling you how much I think Acitivsion should change this or that, because I just don't care enough about the publisher to really care about whats happening with Call Of Duty 29 etc lol

I'm 100% sure on some level, many fans want Paper Mario how it was on Gamecube and not outsourced to random teams or how they want Star Fox like how it was on 64 and not how it was with Zero.

I feel many fans really, really feel this way evident by the low sales of some of those releases. Many just confuse angry fans, with people who just hate the company or system in general. Its more then that. I didn't buy a Wii U, but bought a 3DS, I won't buy a XONE, but might buy MS titles on PC. Many times, its not really the system, simply just how the publisher is treating certain IP. You wouldn't care about RE5 or 6 if you liked the old School RE titles, doesn't mean you HATE Capcom, simple means you want the old concept of just pure survival. I'll buy many Capcom games, but certain series I don't trust them anymore. That is how I feel about Nintendo. I'd argue MOST of the most criticle people about Nintendo are its older fans. I don't want SF Zero, I don't want Paper Mario Color Splash just like I didn't want RE5 or 6. It hurts many's ability to really get that some gamers are simply voicing a concern about the quality, not simply just bashing. Many, many will fail to realize that and I get it, many are fanboys who will just bash anything that is being done, but I feel many might simply be older fans that don't agree with the direction they see happening.

That being said, this articles statements are just too wild and situational.

You could take the controllers off and the screen is quite small and fit into anything. The controllers can go into your pocket or a pocket in your respective bag. Sounds pretty practical.

Tabletop mode is the best. My son can watch his Thomas the tank engine, while I'm kicking butt in Street fighter.

Razzer2456d ago

Not sure why the fact that your bag is too small is the Switch's problem. Fits fine in my laptop bag.

Well thank GRODD you have a choice.
