God of War Isn't Quite An Open World Game, But It Will Reward You For Exploring

ya i've actually been turned off of open world games recently, they all feel the same somewhat, and the first 20% is always the best part, and i always find that the last portion is the least focused, depends more on the player sticking with the story than the world showing what has actually happened because of the story

Open world games these days just aren't that appealing to me anymore, I used to love them when I was a teenager, but now I'm almost 26 and I've just lost interest in the big huge time consuming open worlds of today, even GTAV bored me after a few hours and I never expected that, the best kind of game for me is a game that is mostly linear but allows backtracking throughout a more open hub-like world, like bioshock, the souls games and the original silent hill and resident evil games, games that give you freedom to explore and revisit old areas with new items to be able to unlock secret rooms and explore secret areas that might even lead to secret bosses.

With the exception of Grand Theft Auto V, because there is great detail in that world (what you do in the world is boring however, I agree), many open world games lack detail, with open area games, large amounts of work and detail can be put into the world than can allow the gamer become immersed into the universe. Uncharted 4 is a great example.

The weird father and son story too kinda weakens Kratos down a lot with more empathy then the ending of God of war 3 with you feeling for Pandora.

The new gameplay pace reflects Krato's new development, and it is still fast paced. Are People still stuck in the E3 2016 showing? The nee trailer showed a como based and fast combat. He even still do the tornado attacks with the axe

You didn't know? This is God of War: Last of Us Edition. All PS4 1st party titles here on out are going to be slow, highly cinematic, highly scripted games that are not really fun to play. BUT THAT STORY THO. 10/10

They seem intent on making all of their games variations on the same thing, where they are 75% movie, and "all about the feels".

I don't get it. I like a good story and all, but put it in a game that is still fun to play.

TLOU was garbage from a gameplay perspective, but everyone hugged it's nuts so hard they decided they needed to make every game just like it. It really aggravates me.

I know it's not a popular idea here but I was actually hoping there could be a Goddess of War. Would be cool. I love the game the way it is though. Itt surprised me how they renewed the interest in Kratos as a character while most people thought he needed a break. I don't feel too much a female character as dlc though. Rather a full game. Maybe next time or a different game?

Tomb raider always had a female lead, doesnt make any sense to make Kratos a woman, that is just dumb if that is the case.
However Heavenly sword was kind of similar but with a female lead and I too would love more of those so Sony better get at it because it was a good game.

Swapping genders is silly, but I get the idea of having representation, its just that you dont want to force representation or diversity. Creators should be free to do as they please but it is really weird if they change a character just because they want to pander to a group and be progressive.
If Harry potter was a guy for the first 5 movies and then a girl in the 6th it would be garbage and ruin the consistency.
Or the other way around of suddenly Lara Croft now after over 20 year is Larry croft. makes no sense, and doesnt serve the story.
On the other hand a spinoff can work when a another established character is the main character like Uncharted is doing now having a game about Chloe where it doesnt change a character and ruin the consistency in any way.
Creators should make a games story and characters as they want and stick with it until the story is done.
If the game is fun and interesting that is what counts and not forced representation or identity politics.
When 98% of people judge a game the lead characters gender doesnt even enter the equation unless it is forced in some way. Nariko, Aloy, Lara and Uncharted's Chloe, they are all good.
Larry croft and Harrine Potter... well hell noo.
