Nintendo Switch sales exceeding Wii sales by 10 percent

The world's largest video game retailer has Nintendo to thank for its first sales increase in five quarters.

Honestly though, in the long run this supply issue can and will be fixed so its not really a problem in the long run for this company but in the short run its an annoyance.

Reason why this company is much smaller than Sony, who actually owns factories, Nintendo does not and to make matters worse they went from produce wii u's which sold so bad to something like Switch that is selling so good. It takes awhile to step manufacturing up to something like that.

Nah too small sample size. Wii was sold out for a year or more. Switch gonna sell 20 mil give or take a few lifetime.

I'm glad to see Nintendo doing well right now, but I think it'd be best to see how things pan out in the long run. This is worth revisiting in a year.

I still expect strong sales, especially by year's end with Mario Odyssey, but I think you need to wait it out for more than three months and establish consistency.

If a rookie meteorologist predicts the weather only twice and they were right both times, they're 100% accurate, but that is only if you conveniently truncate the data to only examine a specific period of time. It will be worth watching Switch. I expect it will have long legs, but we should definitely wait and see.

Nintendo's expects 12 million for this year, and is upping production to 16 million.

Analysts have upped their forecasts to nearly 15 million in the first year.

Unless they have some killer game or games at E3 (Metroid, Animal Crossing, Pokemon) then I think 15 million first year may be a little high. However if they drop some major games and they ship enough, 15 million first year is easily within reach. They've already got Super Mario Odyssey and Splatoon 2 coming this year, which are two of their biggest IPs.

Do you somehow expect sales to drop off a cliff after that, or are you just in denial?

I find it amusing that Nintendo is in the exact opposite situation as their last launch.
Before, they overestimated demand and put too many out for the Wii U.
But now, with the Wii U having made them cautious, they're suddenly being too conservative and are having trouble making enough Switch units fast enough.

Nintendo messed up with the wiiu in alot of ways and one was the name. I'm not saying the wiiu would of sold any different if it was called something else but when I told People about the wiiu they always said is that the add-on screen for the Wii. I'm glad the switch is selling well though great little machine and I hope it gets the support it deserves.

The way MS was talking about cloud computing made it sound like it was going to be common in games and the next big thing and you guys ate it all up. Xbox fans made PS4 fans come up with secret sauce because they kept coming up with excuses of how a new update or are going provide better graphics than the PS4.

Don't remember anybody saying that an update would give X1 better graphics than a PS4. Cloud computing is real. It's currently used on a PC game that can house thousands of players in one match. Will cloud computing be a regular practice? Who knows? It's in it's infancy. You can call it what you want. Doesn't change anything though.

It still is big for Xbox. It's been used in their exclusives like forza with there drivatars and such. Also crackdown is going to implement this heavy with the type of destruction its supposed to use.

PC is a MS platform. So if it works there, it works on Xbox.
Crackdown has already been shown running on an X1 at Gamescon.
Without the cloud there wouldn't be an N4G for you to troll on. N4G also runs on MS' Azure cloud.
Planetside 2 cannot house thousands of player in 1 game. Thousands of players can fit on the same server. But not in the same match.

MS doesn't own the right to someone building a PC bud, they simply own the OS Windows.

You can build a PC and use Steam OS or Linux etc, also MS doesn't get money from every PC game sales even if it runs on Windows as Windows is open source........

My fiance bought the switch for me a few days ago and I have to say it is a lot better than I thought it was going to be. I am enjoying the Nintendo Echo System with the new Zelda and Mario Kart games. I hope they make a lot of the older games available on the store over time. Would love to play some of the older Zelda games.

(Been out of the echo system since the Gamecube, think I have that kicking around somewhere...)

doens't matter if it's been a shorter time... outselling the wii by any metric is an accomplishment considering how well the wii sold.

however, it densest' seem to have the mass hysteria kind of appeal that the wii had. i didnt' see the switch on the news like the wii was. wii was all the craze in nursing homes, oprah was giving them away etc.

i don't see that kind of buzz or excitment for the wii, it has a good zelda game, but nothing as "revolutionary" as wii sports at the time.. i think i'm skeptical of this news to be honest.

i just randomly came across one in best buy last weekend so i bought it. its cool. i don't know that its a must have. i mean zelda is good. but beyond that and mario kart, there isn't a ton to get excited about just yet. I'm still trying to figure out my feelings on it. its a cool little machine until you try to compare it to a ps4 or xb1 - and i own a ps4 pro and an xbox one S. it really lags behind in just about everything as a console. as a portable its cool. graphically i'd say its probably about as good as a recent model iPad. definitely not even close to ps4 or xb1s graphics - let alone scorpio or ps4 pro. same goes for features in general. pretty bare bones. not even bluetooth (at least for chat). i guess its cool but its hard to take it completely seriously imo. especially once the tricks wear off.

Good for Nintendo. They don't appeal to me much anymore but after the failings of the Wii U it's great to see them turn things around, if only at present. Gaming just wouldn't be the same without the Nintendo brand carving out its own direction.

Still early days. I love my Switch and I am really happy to see it selling so well. I think 15 mill first year is probably achievable considering mario is coming just b4 xmas. The second sales will be key as the trend will be more apparent by then. Nintendo need to smash E3 and show what we can look forward to beyond xmas. A few surprises for this year, like a smash port and some big VC titles will cement a strong finish for this year

Too bad there isn't anything to play, the system itself needs a serious firmware update, e-shop is sh!t, has zero games from third party with all major players playing the "wait-and-see" game. Basically, you are investing in the possibility of something good.
Mine is collecting dust. Whatever is offered is pretty lame.
The games I am playing and I want to play are not in this toy I bought. I'll wait for new Mario, maybe that will be ok for a month.
