Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has shown the Switch's online services aren't all that great. Could the leap to paid subscriptions force Nintendo to get its act together?
VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "10 years. It’s been almost 10 years since the last mainline release in the Mario Kart series. Mario Kart 8 came out for the Wii U in 2014 and became the best-selling game for the system by a sizeable margin, and later pulled the same magic trick on the Nintendo Switch under the stage name Deluxe. All in all, it's sold nearly 70 million copies over the last decade and is still selling like hot cakes to this day, so it’s no wonder Nintendo has been in no rush to replace it. However, with rumors of a new system being just around the corner, and reports a few years back that a new Mario Kart is indeed under way, it seems the era of 8 might very well be drawing to a close. It’s an exciting prospect to be sure, but after two Nintendo systems with Mario Kart 8 at their heart, a lot of questions remain about how Nintendo will choose to follow it up."
I hope they just keep building on Mario Kart 8; Add a track-creation tool, and probably open it up to more Nintendo IPs with new tracks and characters, so Metroid, Punch Out, Starfox, Animal Crossing, etc etc.
there wont be a new one until the switch 2 comes out.
nintendo needs their bangers early on
Nintendo has announced a variety of plans it has in store for MAR10 Day. The event, which celebrates all things Mario, technically is on Sunday though there are different things happening as early as today. Nintendo’s lineup includes giveaways, challenges, deals, and more.
It's meee Marioo and my lawyers are going to sue you if you emulatio los mio giocos for millions of coins!!!!
The Nintendo Switch has been an undeniable success for Nintendo, but which games make the best selling chart for the console?
Nintendo made out like bandits with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. It's the same game that was on the WiiU except they added 2 item boxes like in double dash.
this is why i always say that Nintendo will always be fine. look at those numbers lol
and those are all first party games.
Tried playing MK8 two nights ago and got a communication error every single game.
Not necessarily you have to consider some of the bare-bones features that were on PlayStation 3 in 2006 are not even present on the switch.
I believe that you can have a Superior Service regardless if it's paid for or not simply because Steam and even PlayStation 3 last generation sort of prove you don't really need to have a paid service to have a quality service.
Of course a paid service has the potential to become better faster, but I'd argue that their design choices have very little to do with cost.
There is no reason why somebody should be using a cell phone to communicate with another gamer in 2017 on a device very much capable of just having a Bluetooth setup...
A lot of that just comes down to questionable decisions and not necessarily paid subscriptions.
I think over time the service will become better once enough consumers begin demanding the features be changed to fit 2017. Over time it is consumers that indeed actually shape with these Services turned out to be.
I think they'll probably be fine. When I get the switch I'm not too sure if I'm even going to use the service simply because playing multiplayer in terms of Nintendo games for me it's sort of over, i haven't really enjoyed lots of there multiplayer games in terms of online for an extremely long time, I think the last game I could even think of is probably Mario Kart on the Wii.
Does anyone know if they have restrictions in regards to just Wi-Fi or Lan setup similar to how you would play with PlayStation Vita or 3DS or DS etc?
The only time I really see me playing multiplayer to be honest is when I'm already with a group of friends.
Will we be able to play Mario Kart in groups in terms of manual setups ie offline, without the service?
The thing is though its going to get better when they start charging, MK8 is working fine for and theres been a few errors but its because itl be rammed with players. I look forward to the new online and features.
In it's current state definitely not, online gameplay is smooth for the most part which is great but it's going to need a lot more options before I'd ever consider paying for it.
