Nope. Portable cant have the same power like a home console . The switch is doing just ports without any evolution beside rez. The games have zero AA but the cartony look hide the severe lack in power.

AKR2985d ago (Edited 2985d ago )

"Portable can't have the same power like a home console". And yet, the Switch is running games better than the Wii U can, all while being incredibly smaller.

Not all of the Switch's games are ports. Original titles like Splatoon 2 and Super Mario Oddyssey are coming later this year. On top of that, multi-plat games like Snake Pass and LEGO City Undercover on Switch look very similar to that of the PS4/XBO versions.

Finally, there are realistic looking games on the system like Siberia 3 and FAST RMX.

corroios2984d ago

Please just stop. Games look similar to the xbox one and ps4? Snake? I dont understand how blind some gamers can be. I could give many digital foundry reviews of weak games that are both on the switch and ps4 and it just shows how weak is the switch.

The switch is a very good portable with a good sized screen but is just weak in hpme console mode. Very far from the competition and forced to make cartony games with zero AA because the lack of power.

And please fast rmx is another wii u old game that runs at higher rez on the switch but nothing more.

Again, switch very very good portable console will sell millions and millions, got nintendo exclusives, but you still need a ps4 or xbox to play all the big 3 rd party games and get a good online gaing.

Istolla2984d ago

It's more powerful than the PS3 and close in power to the Xbox One. It's not severely lacking in power. PS4 and Xbox one are weaker than PCs yet they still thrive.

The Switch will change the gaming industry in the same way laptops changed the PC industry. I see a lot of multi console owners getting multiplatform games on the Switch simply because of portability.

Utalkin2me2984d ago

Its only close to Xbox1, "which is going on 3 years old" in power when it is docked. As it seems most people are playing it portable mode, from the comments i see on here. There is more to at fault then just lacking in power. exclusives is not goign to save it in the US. I mean it lacks basic functionality that every mobile device has. On top of no chat or matchmaking and the list goes on. It was rushed and it shows.

Istolla2984d ago

Matchmaking and chat is coming. Nintendo has already stated this. As for mobile features, if you're talking about smartphone then you're missing the point. It's a gaming machine first and foremost. It just needs to be able to play games.

In terms of whether more people play docked vs handheld you can't really determine that. Even on this site it's hard to know who mostly plays handheld vs docked.

It's barely a month old, give it time.

omegaheat2984d ago

Istolla, I see what you did there. Close on power to am Xbox One, but that excludes the PS4? You guys are so delusional. Just how much more powerful is the PS4 than the Xbox One have you made yourself believe? As long as the Switch becomes the second platform next to a PS4, it's okay. But god forbid becoming the second platform to supplement the owner of an Xbox One because they are "close in power". Just give it a rest.

TheCommentator2984d ago (Edited 2984d ago )

• Nintendo made a portable system like the PSP, which can dock with the TV, so they won't change the home console space. Nintendo is stuck on trying to create niche products with unique gimmicks and they only end up with 1st party support and Japanese 3rd party support in the long run.
• Playstation is successful enough that they don't need to change what they're doing; they represent the current console space already. Strong 1st party and 3rd party support on a console that just plays games. PS is ahead of everyone because they dedicate themselves to gaming before anything else.
• MS is doing more to change the console industry, if anything, because it appears they're trying to make consoles more PC like. I would welcome things like PC utilities and DAW's as long as it compliments, rather than compromises gameplay performance. MS should (and reportedly is) focus on games first though. More 1st party support and better Japanese 3rd party support will go a long way towards making the Xbox brand more appealing to a wider audience.

One thing is for sure though, none of the BIg 3 are going away any time soon.

C_Ali882983d ago

Change would mean NOT relying on the same things that previous gens did I.E. just loading up consoles with more power!!

How about changing the functional aspects of video games?, the social aspects?, the interactivity?, Cooperation?...

See, you all are so narrow minded you jumped straight into "POWAHHH" when every gender ups the power and video games are on the decline VS mobiles "weak hardware".

You guys actually have no clue about anything other than your own self serving opinions. Nothing of benefit or actual criticism is ever levied here.

Gaming industry is doing fine; let the Switch do its own thing. The big three don't have to be identical in design with everything.

porkChop2984d ago

All 3 are headed in entirely different directions, and I think that's a very good thing.

CocoaBrother2984d ago

I completely agree. Adds more variety in my opinion

omegaheat2984d ago

Entirely different directions, how so? Last time I checked the PS4 and Xbox cater to the same market. As far as Nintendo, I'd say they are catering to the same market that they always have.

BlakHavoc2984d ago

Its lack of power is my only concern and the only reason I wouldn't prefer every game on the switch. Playing P5 right now and I've logged about 35 hours into it, if it were on Switch or Vita I know that number would be nearly double for me. The portability of the console just makes it easier to fit gaming into your use of time. So it's a great console in that regard but it's inferiority in terms of performance compared to the competition is why I wouldn't want all consoles to become portable, unless they somehow managed to still include the current specs of the PS4/X1. I love the console however, it doesn't get a lot of 3rd party support so I don't believe it needs the impressive specs to ensure similar quality to PS4/X1 versions. But most of their games have fantastic art style and don't really need photo realistic graphics, for instance Zelda is a very attractive game, and Mario looks like it's going to be beautiful. It's totally possible that if the Switch were to capture the market and sell at a rapid pace (ala the Wii), it could entice its competitors to try something similar, the same way they did with the Move and Kinect.

Aenea2984d ago

No.

If MS and Sony had to make X1 and PS4 as a hybrid the costs would've been way higher while most people wouldn't use the functionality so no I don't see it going that way from now on at all.

Istolla2984d ago

How could you possibly know that most people won't use the functionality?

Hugodastrevas2984d ago

@Istolla Because the Psvita has the option and most people don't use it.

Munnkyman2984d ago

It can change it like they did with the Wii. But only if it has games to push it. By games meaning third parties jumping on board and not making crappy ports. Which could prove difficult.

Probably be using 3+ year old chips by the time it launches

Tacoboto356d ago

The 2017 Switch is based on the 2015 Tegra X1 so even if Nintendo is using technology from 2022, that alone still represents a significant improvement.

Outside_ofthe_Box356d ago

How many decades has it been since Nintendo consoles been about power?

Inverno356d ago

Should open pre-orders through the E-shop for a period before making it available through stores. And now that COVID is out the way, you can make in store preorders mandatory too. People interested wouldn't have much of an issue driving by if it meant keeping scalpers at bay for a bit.

CrimsonWing69356d ago

I mean, the problem is these a-holes have bots that eat up every sites inventory. Then they sell it on eBay for stupid prices. No matter what you try to do we’re still going to have to fight through these human pieces of sh*t to get these damn consoles at launch.

phoenixwing356d ago (Edited 356d ago )

Well I'll either see if I can get one online against bots or wait till they're saturated and buy in a brick and morter store. Waiting isn't an issue anyway I have enough games to wait out the shortage

FinalFantasyFanatic355d ago (Edited 355d ago )

I can't really understand people rushing out to buy a console at release, I'll wait a year, two years, etc... until I can walk into a store and buy one if I have to, I'm not paying scalper prices.

console wars are stupid to begin with... let alone handheld wars.

GameGeeked381d ago

Console wars, and possibly handheld wars, may seem silly, but they persist because there will always be passionate fan.

darthv72381d ago

Being passionate about the games is fine. The plastic boxes... not so much.

InUrFoxHole379d ago

Passionate is one thing. But fans went full retard

Cacabunga379d ago

Darth

You need some kind of plastic box to play them games.. and people tend to choose the best one. Console wars allows games and consoles to reach new heights.

S2Killinit379d ago

You really don't get to speak. Come on.

Ironmike379d ago (Edited 379d ago )

S2killinit u just as bad

S2Killinit379d ago (Edited 379d ago )

@Ironmike
I’m not as relentless as some on here. In fact, I only respond in kind and I got pulled into this site after seeing how some commenters were always rushing in to be the first comment and detail conversations in favor of their box. Now that their console of choice is doing badly, they preach kumbaya. Just saying.

crazyCoconuts379d ago

Is it implied that "console wars" refers to the fans warring vs. the war the platform holders are constantly in?
Obviously the platform holders have been at war and will be as long as they have to compete for our dollars.

ravens52379d ago

They're fine, as long as you know this isn't REAL. I can say how much distaste I have for MS but still have a best friend that only games on Xbox. Its not that serious .

Charlieboy333379d ago (Edited 379d ago )

Darth, do you not have preferences for certain things in life ? You know like a certain brand of phone, car, clothing, restaurant, etc.

Or are you one of those boring limp people that like to sit on the fence with everything because the 'conflict' is too much for you to handle?

There is fuckall wrong with having a console war....it keeps things fun and interesting. Well unless you're a supporter of Xbox that is.

Most of the intelligent self respecting Xbox supporters have jumped ship and all that's left now are the mouth breathing knuckle draggers.

Ironmike379d ago (Edited 379d ago )

So u resort to insults to win argument, u already lost bro .

Charlieboy333379d ago

@ Ironmike Whatever you say sunshine.....yawn

Console wars were great when it was SNES vs Genesis. Was always a great topic in the school yard. You got the Genesis port the friend got the SNES port. Always fun to compare who was better. I always looked forward after the school week and rent a game for the SNES. Now the console wars are pretty much done and over with PS3 vs XB360 was pretty much the last of the console wars. Anything after that is pretty much one sided with almost everybody going PS4 and PS5. To me the console wars started to drop after the PS3 and XB360 ran their course. Be interesting to see the handheld wars I am in the market for a new handheld system.

GameGeeked381d ago

The SNES vs Genesis days were definitely memorable. I was lucky to have both consoles :) It's interesting to see how the focus is shifting now. Handheld wars could bring back some of that excitement. Which handheld system are you considering?

anast379d ago

I was on the Genesis side. We see how well that went.

RaiderNation379d ago

I had both but I preferred the Genesis for the sports games and I liked Sega's 6 button controller better for fighting games. That D pad was a godsend to pull off Street Fighter moves!

RaiderNation379d ago (Edited 379d ago )

The "golden age" of gaming to me was between 1995 and 2000 when it was a 3 horse race between Sony, Nintendo, and Sega. For me, there WAS no console war because I genuinely loved all 3 platforms, with each bringing something unique to the table. I miss that era.

anast379d ago

I switched to Sony day 1.

PhillyDonJawn379d ago

Anast, no one would've ever thought that about you. Totally surprising news/s

Fist4achin379d ago (Edited 379d ago )

Mortal Kombat was superior on the genesis!

FinalFantasyFanatic378d ago

It also helps that back then, they used very different hardware, today's consoles have very similar internals to each other, especially modern Playstations and Xboxes.

Handheld wars aka which system is gimped more and destroys your hands faster.

anast379d ago

I would say with the defeat of Xbox and Nintendo being it's own thing in family friendly handheld gaming, the console wars are over. For those of us that enjoy that kind of entertainment and are aware of this aspect, it was fun while it lasted.

There is no handheld war Nintendo owns the handheld landscape.

-Foxtrot379d ago

" There is no handheld war Nintendo owns the handheld landscape "

If the Xbox handheld is true I won't how it will do against Nintendo, even Sony couldn't keep up and the PSP was fantastic

RaiderNation379d ago (Edited 379d ago )

The Steamdeck has currently sold around 3 million worldwide. A handheld Xbox would be lucky to double that. As others have suggested, there IS no handheld war. Nintendo owns it.

Ironmike379d ago

The defeat of xbox my god u for real it's a console u talking g like its real war the defeat that's saddest statement I read in here

anast379d ago

"that's saddest statement I read in here"

Your not very self aware. I get it.

The Wood379d ago

The xbox as a console is a shadow of what it was during the 360 era. IF the term war offends you then I guess that you lean towards the green brand.. Just a guess mind you.. Regardless, the brand has been mismanaged for way too long and that's a key factor as to why the gappage as increased yoy between it and its closest rival.

DarXyde379d ago

In a handheld war, Nintendo cannot be beaten.

PSP was a surprisingly robust effort, and it came the closest... While doing half as well as the DS.

badz149379d ago

closest? By any metric imaginable, it was not even close. it's easy to assume the that the PSP might as well be considered a success but it sold over 80mil vs over 150mil by the DS. It was not until the failure of Wii U, Xbone and Vita did people finally realize how well the PSP actually did. before all those, it was generally called a failure by many, considering how badly the DS crushed it in sales.

NotoriousWhiz379d ago

If the PSP's 80 million isn't a success, then what is the 3DS' 75 million?
