Tekken 7 Download Size Revealed; It's Unexpected

The listing for Tekken 7 has just gone up on the PlayStation Store, revealing some pertinent information regarding how large the game will be to download to your PlayStation 4.

Why is that unexpected? ~45gb is fairly standard this gen

45gb for a fighting game though is a HUGE amount, the only game around that size is Mortal Kombat X and that was packed with content. In comparison, most fighting games are roughly 15-20gb so for Tekken to be this huge is highly encouraging.

Aren't the cutscenes in the story mode of Mortal Kombat games prerendered video files that mask the loading times to the next fight? That is what takes up all the space on those games and if MK X was the same then the videos were probably 1080p because when you have bluray, why not target that now.

I had a chance to play it at NYCC back in October. I can't speak much for what's included, but it was definitely a blast. As someone who's been playing Tekken since the mid 90s, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Loved my brief moments with it.

Firmware 4.50 allows external hard drives up to 8 TB! I'm in the beta and it's fantastic. Finally downloaded all my digital stuff.

I ordered a 6TB External HDD once the 4.50 beta hit. Add that to the 2tb internal HDD. I own 291 digital games. Now I can finally download them all. I think. :/

I am in the beta as well. Having 8TB for all of your games is freaking awesome isn't it? There is nothing installed on my PS4 Pro. THe only thing on it are screenshots and save files. Its is awesome.

Maybe if Nintendo were more open about their new console since they announced it in March 2015, Team Tekken could have started working on such a thing a long time ago. As it stands it will be an afterthought now and one that will only be decided should there be decent sales on the console which is going to take a few months to confirm.

he was in a data leak containing several characters, and iirc he's one of them. so far the leak is true.

Tekken games have always filled their disc medium, of their time period, due to the CGI cutscenes for every character when you complete story/arcade mode.
PS1 CDs were packed with their 240p videos. PS2 with their 480p video files, PS3 got the bigger benefit of having Bluray so they upped the bitrate on the video files on Tekken 6 and Tag 2's video files with the games coming to around 12gb and 18gbs respectively on disc.
Xbox versions suffered as a result with, for example, Tekken 6 cutscenes having to be crammed on the ridiculous 7.3gb size that all 360 games had to cater to with the bitrate lowered drastically on the cutscenes. Back then, Microsoft had patented "protection" technology on their DVD discs to stop the games from being cracked even though they were cracked........... the same week the console launched in 2005. They got rid of this in late 2011 so games on 360 could finally utilise the full, stunning, 8gbs of dvd disc format (something that God of War 2 did on PS2 almost 5 years prior).

The CGI videos for each character this time around in Tekken 7 are clearly going to be native 1080p and this is probably going to take up about 40% of the game's files alone, nothing to do with "this is a pure next gen game", nope this is a series staple that simply has always been the case.

Now, I don't expect you to be able to provide an answer to this, but i'll ask anyway: some punk who came into my house stole my USB receiver for the arcade stick that was offered in the CE of Tekken 6 a few years back, so I haven't been able to use it anymore, and that kills me because I loved playing my arcade games on my PS3 with it, and even more my MAME games on my PC with it (yep, it was compatible). You wouldn't know where I could find another one by any chance? :p

Sounds about right. I expect it to be packed with content cause it was delayed to avoid a disaster like SFV. Pretty confident in Tekken 7.
