I hear you. I just gotta find someone willing to sit next to me while I play this in VR. Or else I might be too chicken.

Artemidorus3158d ago

Best off turning the lights out at home and make people jump at scary bits.

S2Killinit3158d ago

The reports suggest they are going back to their horroe roots. I think its great. Cant wait.

sdcard4gb3158d ago

Resident Evil going back to it's roots ?
Um, where is the old camera and controls ? I am not sure I can seriously accept this as a "comeback to roots".

S2Killinit3158d ago

the "survival horror" roots. its going to get scary again, like it used to be back in the day (especially before RE5)

sdcard4gb3158d ago (Edited 3158d ago )

Well, okay, but... From what I saw the First Person camera angle actually dictates what kind of scares the game has and how exactly the player will encounter them... For example... That jumpscare when the father breaks through the corridor wall in one of the trailers doesn't strike the player even half as hard as that SAME jumpscare back in RE2 with Mister X breaking through a wall of a still background in RCPD after you already had quite a while to walk around and fall into a false sense of safety mostly because the game never made you expect something like this to come out of a still image which basically were original Resident Evil games's backgrounds...
I fail to see how this game, conceptually speaking, is in any way a step up from the original three games in the series other then the obvious audio-visual side.

Cha0tik3158d ago

It's not about beating the first three. They were inspired by the first three games and other recent games to create something that was true to the RE roots yet different and new for the series. "Back to the roots" doesn't always mean that a game is going to be exactly like the past games... it means that the game will feel and play a lot like (<- these two keywords) the old survival horror games. Not imitate them.

DarkOcelet3158d ago (Edited 3158d ago )

Resident Evil is the only game that can hype me by making a trailer showing an Item Box and a save room.

Day one!

sdcard4gb3158d ago

And no music in the save room... So sad...

DarkOcelet3158d ago

Actually, the YouTube link I posted is said to be the leaked theme for the save room.

Good, at least the original save rooms are back. I don't hear any melodic soundtrack while we are in the save room (which is very odd) and I don't see any limited tapes that could be used to save progress seeing how we are using tape recorders now (which is very sad, mostly because people are no longer tense about saving)... But hey, the trusty item box is still standing there in the corner, so I guess this game at least remembers how these used to work once...
You almost had my interest, CAPCOM. Almost. Who knows, you may end up getting it... But that'll demand you to fully redo the controls and camera of the game, so I highly doubt you'll have the balls enough to release a old style Resident Evil in today's First-Person horror world...
Right now this game seems like some usual First-Person walking-hiding simulator game which is inspired by Resident Evil, but nothing else, really.
Too bad they never released that Resident Evil 4 Hook Version... I just had this sudden urge to play it... Too tired of this First-Person horror game we were playing for at least 6+ years now since Slender and Amnesia came along and made every single person decide that horror can only be effective if you are stuck in first person. If you really think that it is true then I would recommend Clock Tower, Silent Hill 1,2,3, Resident Evil 1,2,3 and Eternal Darkness. Horror is the creation of those who create it and to think that it works best with only one kind of perspective is ludicrous disrespect to the survival horror games of old.

mnlorain3158d ago (Edited 3158d ago )

I shared your thoughts until fairly recently. At the very least we know it isn't a complete walking simulator, because there ARE weapons to use and supposedly the game also won't rely on hiding in lockers.

As for the saves, agreed. I enjoyed Alien: Isolation so much because of how punishing it was in this regard, with save stations placed pretty far apart. It made things INTENSE when you made a lot of progress, but hadn't saved in a long time -- and suddenly the damn alien drops into the room and gets your heart pumping! I hope RE7 replicates this, but I know it'll probably have checkpoints too...

The first-person camera bums me out the most, though. I really wish there was a third-person option to make it feel even more like Resident Evil. I understand them wanting to double-down on VR, but very few people playing the game will actually have a headset.

All I know is, if the RE2 remake releases and doesn't at least have the OPTION for static camera angles, I'll have to quit buying Capcom products. I think ideally the gameplay would actually be somewhat of a hybrid, with static angles while exploring, but over-the-shoulder views while aiming -- pretty much what RE4's hook version was like. That provides atmosphere AND accuracy.

sdcard4gb3158d ago

I want people to have some respect to old video game franchises in terms of their original gameplay mechanics. All these Alien:Isolations can be good games all they want, but I HIGHLY don't appreciate people making numbered games in the already established series's and completely revamping the original controls. This is a problem, because the preservation of this series is no longer possible...
I am just a kind of guy who wants to play one and the same game over the years which becomes better and better while retaining it's own self. I don't want these indie titles to manipulate the franchises like Resident Evil to become like them only because it's trendy...
...I just want to go home. I'm just 24 and I haven't been home for years now... There hasn't been a proper Resident Evil game since 4 (which is really a true Resident Evil game, no matter what everyone says, I mean - look at the shlocky story, the ridiculous one liners, the bosses, the music, ofcourse it's pure Resident Evil), I haven't had a Devil May Cry since DMC4, I haven't had a Silent Hill since The Room, I haven't seen a good Thief game for what seems to be decades now... So many disappointments, so many false promises... So tired.

mnlorain3158d ago

I hear ya. The way RE7 looks, it would have been an amazing Resident Evil spin-off game. Almost like an evolution of what Survivor was. It looks more like something Capcom would release to tide us over until the real seventh entry was released. No matter how good it is, I'll be at least somewhat disappointed that it had to be so different from the best of the main games. I kept waiting for the series to go back to basics, but now it's been taken in this direction.

Still, I'm more optimistic about it lately. Especially because most of the info that was leaked several months ago has now been proven true, and that means a specific character from the series will be in this game. There's stuff to like, others to dislike. It could be a whole lot worse, the series damn-near turned into a third-person Call of Duty for a bit.

I'm hoping any remakes they do are faithful, at least.

sdcard4gb3158d ago

Same here :)
It's not hard making a good Resident Evil game.

I'm still waiting for Bethesda to greenlight The Evil Within 2. I haven't played another game that SHOULD HAVE BEEN a Resident Evil 5 more then TEW. Shlocky in few parts, artsy in few parts, strange, surreal, bloody, messy, tense and really engaging.

mnlorain3158d ago

Ah, The Evil Within! Yeah, I'm DYING for a sequel.

It was initially disappointing because I didn't expect it to be that action-heavy, and it played a bit like a RE4 remake (a village with a chainsaw maniac, big ogres, that kind of thing). The Kidman DLC was AMAZING though, giving me exactly what I wanted. It also prompted me to replay the main game, which was SO MUCH better the second time around. The nods to RE (like the first enemy's shoulder glance) were fun to see also.

It will come. I just think it will be after code Veronica, and zero. Maybe in line with when RE 10 releases…

gold_drake65d ago

do we really need another remake?

the one that got re released for the ps4 and xbox looks amazing.

-Foxtrot65d ago

It's been 23 years, by the time this could come out we'd be nearing 25. If it's done in the same style as the RE2, 3 & 4 Remake then yeah, I'd happily take another remake.

It gets to tie together RE0 and RE1 better while adding onto the mansion to give us new areas to visit or enemies to face.

coolbeans65d ago

Part of me always wishes the "OG" Resident Evil Remake would remain the only one. Then again, can't deny the financial incentive.

PlayStation Community Rejoice. Resident Evil 1 and Dino Crisis Finally Released From PSN Paywall

Until a few days ago, you could only access Dino Crisis and Resident Evil 1 via PS+. No one could simply purchase them, you had to rely on a monthly subscription.

SimpleSlave195d ago

Fucking Finally! Such a dumbass move to keep them behind a paywall hardly anyone will pay just for these two games.

Also, for some reason, Resident Evil Director’s Cut is free. It happened with Grandia (PS1) too a while ago. Weird, but oh so good.

VersusDMC195d ago

If you bought the original PS1 classic you get the new one for free. I didn't buy the RE1 PS1 classic back in the day so it is 10$ but i got legend of dragoon free because i bought it back in the day.

SimpleSlave195d ago (Edited 195d ago )

Interesting, but I didn't bought any of these games digitally. I only bought them physically and played them on the PS3. And while Grandia and Resi are part of that collection, there are other games, like G-Police, Legends of Dragoon Legend of Mana, that still have a price tag for me.

This sounds more like a random thing Sony is doing. Regardless, I just saved $10. So that's something.

VersusDMC195d ago

Honestly the texture gitters/clipping are a dealbreaker for me so not even trophies will get me to play these versions.

Capcom should just do a survival horror collection with proper remastering ,trophies and extras. Just like the MVC collection. I will just replay them on my vita for now.

jznrpg195d ago

If they made a collection with trophies I’d buy it but I’d like for them to add trophies to what’s there already
