Microsoft responds to the leaked consoles in Norway, talks about the missing 4k option

As many of you guys know, we at GeeksULTD found a few users who received their Xbox One S consoles in Norway a whole month earlier than its original release date. Microsoft took the statements into account and released a statement regarding this matter.

"Nice try Microsoft! But running a gears back, even if no one received the console early and this dilemma hadn’t been started, why should the user be required update the software, doesn’t it come pre-installed when the console is first released,"

Maybe because it's part of the anniversary update that is being released the same day as the console and you can't put an unfinished onto a console in production 2 months ago?

GeeksULTD2826d ago

Come on, tell me, why do updates exist? And why the hell would an out of a box console not have the latest version? MS is making it necessary to update it, cmoN!

OldGuyStillGaming2826d ago

They want an always online consumer

kstuffs2826d ago

Do you want the console later this year like Oct 2016 with the latest software?

Or do you want August 2, 2016 of this year + day-one patch?

Sure you could want 4K enable NOW + delivery in Aug 2, 2016 but that wasn't possible otherwise they would've done it. They wanted to deliver the console as soon as possible since announcing in June 14 at E3. So do you want it to be shipped in October? The outage would be MS can't mange to announce and ship again! Likewise, it'll also butt against Scorpio that's 12ish months away.

Obviously the console had been in the manufacturing line a long time ago along with distribution and shipping so the software is likely at least 1-2 months old. It's also likely timed with the Anniversary Update.

dmetripaulpavlin2826d ago

The out of box console doesn't have the latest update because the latest update doesn't drop until August 2nd. Are that many of you retarded or what? BTW when you start making your own console that you ship worldwide and sell to millions maybe you will have a little better understanding of it all. Only on N4G do the commenters think they know more than the multi billion dollar companies with thousands of employees.

Ravenor2826d ago

The update doesn't exist yet you dunce.

aconnellan2826d ago

Hahaha what?

You know that both the Xbox One and PS4 had day one updates to do right out of the box, right?

The reason is because hardware is final, but software isn't - there are always UI improvements, performance updates, and features to include that the teams work on well after the consoles have been manufactured and shipped out the door, but before they launch.

"Why do updates exist?"

Because we, as consumers, are never happy. Imagine if MS heard all the complaints about the original Xbox One UI and just said "oh well, that's what shipped, deal with it"

"Why the hell would an out of a box console not have the latest version?"

See my original point, plus in the Xbox One S case, the 4K functionality is included in Microsoft's Anniversary update for all their products, which is coming out on August 2nd I believe

Consoles do a great job at keeping innovation from happening and reminding you that you paid an absurd amount to rentown a piece of hardware.

This will be the least of most peoples troubles when they realize their tv, hdmi cables and receiver are not hdcp 2.2 compliant.

Juiceid2826d ago

Indeed. Some better start doing their homework on their existing equipment before being disappointed. And then of course they'll blame Microsoft.

itsmebryan2826d ago

No, they have to blame Microsoft because these people complaining about the need of an update on a system that is not even supposed to be out never take blame for their mistakes. It's always someone else's fault.

rainslacker2826d ago (Edited 2826d ago )

Getting bitten on the receiver end myself.:(

Pisses me off because I paid more for it when I upgraded because it was supposed to be 4K capable....then this whole copyright format BS came about a year or so after I got it.

Juiceid2825d ago

I too had that happen. They say 4K pass through, then all of a sudden I hear about hdcp 2.2, which isn't in my two year old , 1 grand msrp receiver. However, you could always run separate audio to the receiver and send the picture to the tv. A handful of blu Ray players have two hdmi outputs, as do the uhd blu Ray players, except the Xbox.

rainslacker2825d ago

Yeah. The consoles probably won't though, and I would prefer not to have a seperate device. But my TV can do audio pass through back to the receiver, but means I have to fuss around with the settings again and I just got it so the inputs switch properly.:(

Anyone wants some popcorn?🍿🍿

Prubar2826d ago

Didn't the PS4 need an update to play DVD's/Blu Rays? People should be used to this stuff by now.

RookieMonsterLives2826d ago (Edited 2826d ago )

Nope. Mine work straight out-of-the-box. No update needed.

Prubar2826d ago

Did you get it at launch? I know I did and I had to update it.

Kribwalker2826d ago

I had to update my ps4 right off the bat. I had to update it a month ago in order to continue playing the uncharted collection....

Ravenor2826d ago

Update 1.50 look it up.

XanderZane2826d ago

You didn't buy it on launch day then, cause everyone had to update the PS4 with a patch before playing Blu-Ray movies on day one. Everyone had to update the XB1 so they could play their games too. Not sure why people are even crying about this. Not even a real issue. Gamers without internet access could request a CD from Sony or Microsoft with the latest patch or have a friend download it to a thumb drive and load it from there. Isn't technology wonderful?

Ssshhh it's only drop the ball again when it comes to MS.

hduce2826d ago

The PS4 and Xbox One needed an update to play 3d bluray's though.
