Hideo Kojima Talks Loneliness of Creation: “Sometimes they Say I’m Crazy”

Hideo Kojima is seen by many as one of the greatest minds of game development, and today he talked on Twitter about the loneliness of a creator, and the fact that some times people say he’s crazy. Yet, he’s not completely alone.

I can see that with some creative people/artists and how they get ostracized by the public. Unfortunately, it seems that a lot of people can't appreciate art in whatever medium or comes in. It pisses me off when people can't see the art put together in a game. Games have been more entertaining than a lot of garbage movies lately.

He was a bit crazy to hire a grizzly alcoholic to play snake in MGS 5 and do away with the story component. Story has been a major element of MGS games since Shadow Moses.

He was also a bit crazy to listen to the vocal minority of people that didn't like MGS 4s story and cut scenes and allow that minority to so heavily influence the story design in MGS 5, which was almost no story.

Still love Kojima but MGS 5 still hurts. My favourite series of all time fell way off with MGS 5, despite the gameplay being the best it's ever been. The story ( and to some extent the environments) definitely were not.

True writers must grasp and accept loneliness. Many think they are creators/writers until they come across this, and then many fall away from pursuing this career path.

To be a writer to is be lonely.

A writer and really anyone with creativity pulsing through them is seeing the world from a very different perspective. Us writers see things, patterns that many either cannot see or choose not to see.

He may be labeled crazy, but the best people in the world are crazy :)

The world is full of 'crazy' people. You can be as 'crazy' as you want as long as you don't cause harm to others, though you have to be a little bit careful, because you could loose the connection to reality along your mind ...

I think that every 'creator' has to face those kind of things, if you're not able to withstand those things as a 'creator' you should choose to do something else ...
