'Zelda: Breath of the Wild' Is The Best Game Of E3, But It Should Have Been Shown On NX

Forbes: The question of who “won” E3 is always a hot debate full of fanboy mudslinging, as you might expect. All we can say are our own personal opinions in the end, and mine is that while Sony had the best stage show, Nintendo had the best game in the form of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Though I’m certainly not alone in thinking the latter.

Brandnewfan6102904d ago (Edited 2904d ago )

Definitely not the best. But certainly in my top 5 favorites from E3 including Resident Evil 7, Horizon, God of War
And South Park. But Zelda would easily be 5th place below all of these games. Zelda isn't really doing much new that other games haven't already done. It's just new for zelda.

DanteVFenris6662904d ago (Edited 2904d ago )

Its not just new for Zelda. They showed a lot of innovative concepts in the game.

wonderfulmonkeyman2904d ago

Don't bother putting Zelda down for that if you're not going to levy the same criticism against most of the other games that were shown at E3. Otherwise that just shows an unreasonable bias.

Zeldafan642904d ago (Edited 2904d ago )

"Zelda isn't doing much new that other games haven't already done. It's just new for Zelda." Have you played the full game? How could you possibly say that when all they've given is a small glimpse of the game? I've already posed this question to someone else but do you honestly think they'd show the best this game has to offer in just a demo? Of course not! Nintendo know how to do a demo right. Not only that but it looks like Nintendo will have implemented better mechanics than what others have done in the past. Using magnets to move objects around, sure other games have done it but I'm betting Nintendo will have probably thought of more creative ways to use the mechanic.

RPGrinder2903d ago

Hahahahaha even you do not believe that.

TheEspiownage2897d ago

God of War wasn't playable, and Resident Evil 7 was playable for everyone with a PS+ subscription, not to mention that it was not representative of anything from the final game. Horizon looks good, but it's a new IP which doesn't capture the sense of love that the Zelda franchise already has from fans.

After all the bull$#!t, Nintendo owed WiiU owners the first look at what they've been waiting for... We won't see the NX version until the console's reveal.

DrierofLeaves2904d ago

I think at this point, all saltiness about there being no NX at E3 aside, we can safely assume that one way or the other, Nintendo's E3 strategy worked, and was validated. You can try pulling up hypothetical counterfactuals and what-ifs all you want, but there's no point second guessing something that unequivocally appears to have worked,

jessionpc2904d ago (Edited 2904d ago )

"Worked", is pretty fkn loose buddy.

Did Nintendo get laughed off the floor and chased out of the building?... Well, no...

But, they lost more fans this E3 than ever before. 140 thousand Twitch viewers ALONE left the stream within the hour after over 250 thousand showed up to see Nintendo's, "revival"... This was one of the largest loss of fans at a single time Nintendo has ever suffered. They were the laughing stock of the show.

When it comes to Nintendo, people don't use common sense, they don't see the forest for the friggen trees and nobody seems to get Nintendo is fading into the past very quickly. They don't have a clue of what consumers want, they don't make any sense when they say, "It's about the content", when they ruined this entire gen for 1 single exit door game, they don't understand the online services, they don't get that people want a normal controller and current gen up to date fkn specs.

No. We get Windwaker 2, and people are so blind they don't even let themselves see it. Feels great knowing MK8, Smash, Mario and pretty much the entire Nintendo franchise was scrapped or at least watered down this gen, "where's my duel arena? smash singleplay? or a real 3d mario game?!", or ANY of the other big hitters this gen?!?!?!?!?

But hey, whatever... If the real world ain't good enough for yea... Lets ignore them counter-facts and don't DARE second guess our ancient lords still working at Nintendo that most CERTAINLY did super good.

Edit: Nintendo is GREAT!

Nevers0ft2903d ago (Edited 2903d ago )

Have you read any of the gaming press since E3? Every other article seems to be about Zelda... That's why the strategy worked. It's not about how many people watch a stream (and 250,000 for ANY stream is a damned good number - it dwindled to 110,000? Still impressive *shrugs*) it's about the hype generated afterwards and Zelda IS grabbing most of the headlines.

As for the rest of your post... Do you own a Wii U and have you played those games to be able to form an opinion?

pcz2903d ago

i agree.

but lets not bs, what nintendo showed was a nx game. it is the wiiu version of what is now the nx launch title/ system seller.

its only going to be on the wiiu as a consolation to wiiu owners, and just for nintendo to save face.

they didnt need to show it running on nx because fans now know what to expect for the nx version- what they saw, but smoother, longer draw distances, perhaps higher res, and other exclusive content etc

Big_Game_Hunters2903d ago

Probably because they didn't want to see pokemon. Also not everyone wants to watch 5 or een 1 hour of game footage regardless of the game.

MilkMan2904d ago

no, they did the right thing, unlike MS

jay22904d ago

Nah its not.vr or 4k. Thats what we want nintendo have anpther doa consple

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is the anti-Breath of the Wild

Polygon: "To get back to the way Ocarina made us feel, it was necessary to reject almost everything about it."

LG_Fox_Brazil159d ago

Ocarina of Time changed my life forever, such a masterpiece

Zeldafan64159d ago

Hard to believe it's 25 years old already.

Cacabunga159d ago

The feeling this game gave me the first time i had my hands on it is indescribable.. i still get the chill from that day..
botw is like a spin off of the series.. it’s fun but with many flaws and the most important which is Zelda formula isn’t there..

FinalFantasyFanatic158d ago

I can't even remember how many times I played through OoT, I finished that game, and collected everything so many times.

Vits159d ago

I generally agree with the author here. However, if I had to point out a single game as the 'anti-Breath of the Wild,' that would be Majora's Mask. Pretty much everything in that game is interconnected, relies on something that the player must have done previously, is timed, and can be considered a puzzle in itself.

gold_drake158d ago

but still considered the best of the seties.

i would have liked botw to be more like ocarina.

franwex158d ago (Edited 158d ago )

25 years from today whatever Zelda is out people would too be looking fondly at Breath of the Wild.

Ah the more simple times of the 2020s.

babadivad158d ago (Edited 158d ago )

It isn't...

Nintendo not thinking about older Zelda games, "difficult to say" if classic style will return

The Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma has again commented on the possibility of revisiting the style of past entries in the series – but there are no plans as of now. Speaking with RTL Nieuws, Aonuma said that games like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom were possible because of what came before them.

Which is very sad. I still wish we could get a zelda like twilight princess, the dark tone and theme in the traditional style. But times have changed and the masses prefer open world sandbox. Smh. Perhaps we can get a proper hd remake of ocarina of time some day.

CDbiggen298d ago

I played 100 hours of Tears of the Kingdom, enjoyed it, but ready for a game like that next.

kythlyn332d ago

If they can bounce between 2D and 3D Mario games, they can bounce between classic and modern Zelda games too. I thought this was a given when the Switch combined a handheld with a primary console.

Inverno332d ago

Then this is where I part ways. I won't disagree with anyone who says that the old formula was getting stale. And I do think BoTW in a few ways was a step in the right direction, but there's way too much good that was left with the old formula in the transition.

CrimsonWing69332d ago

I want it to. I’m sorry, but these new Zelda games I just can’t get into.

Duke19332d ago

Well that sucks. I still love the classic formula WAY more than the Hyrule Engineering Simulator
