How Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom fixes Breath of the Wild

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was nothing short of a masterpiece when it came out in 2017, but six years have passed since then and some of the game’s more unpleasant aspects have become more apparent over time.

Hard mode still not included, likely 20$ like botw. Game is way too easy to actually enjoy. No story, still very small enemy variety too, not one new weapon technique, so core combat is exactly the same

Inverno327d ago

I'ma disagree with it being easy. If we're talking combat wise, Link gets one hit KOd and ragdolled by even the weakest enemies. That changes with fully upgraded armour but it's still a pain in the ass getting thrown around like nothing. I agree with combat not being improved in any meaningful way though. Combat isn't challenging nor fun because of how basic it is and I mostly avoid it cause of that.

That's the thing is thst combat is what is happening the most in the game. And I feel like botw was too easy, I hated how easy it was. I mean Zelda has always been easy, my 8 year old bro back in the day beat wind waker without dying once on his first and only play, but I was casually enjoying botw. Sure I had some game overs but not much of a struggle.

I wandered into the castle then accidently beat the game because I triggered the blight boss and ended up being the final boss fight, didn't die even once even though I didn't prepare, even though at that point I had only beaten two divine beast and had no master sword and very few heart containers.

It was disappointing, so I was very upset when I saw hard mode was offered as dlc for 20$. Was really hoping they'd change that with totk

Inverno327d ago

Yea I was surprised there wasn't much pushback on the difficulty tied to paid dlc. Don't think they'll charge this time though, but I hope they have some tweaks planned if they add it in later.

But I've been told that BOTW is perfect.

GoodGuy09327d ago

Idk. It kinda fixes some problems but...not really. Having had 50+hrs and beaten it, it's basically just more botw, more of the same lol. I mean, I still really liked the game though. They could've used a lot more QOL stuff and the story was...meh. Gameplay fantastic though and is mostly why you want to play this and the original.

"six years have passed since then and some of the game’s more unpleasant aspects have become more apparent over time".

False, they were apparent at the time of launch but completely ignored because "Zelda". For me weapon breakage is just an unecessary chore and would have been a dealbreaker in any other game.

No one has ever played a game and said to themselves "You know what would make this game even better? If my weapons have limited uses before they break, so that I constantly have to spend unecessary time doing weapon management".

Can you imagine Ghost of Tsushima or God of War implementing this? They would suck big time and be torn to shreds....... but in Zelda it's a "feature" and you even have Zelda cultists claiming they enjoy it!

just like fanboys think totk is perfect lol; it's how it is.

For what it offers, it is.

4k turd doesnt look very good. resolution of textures, poor lighting, bad models and shaders wont be saved by upscaling a video to 4k

gold_drake16d ago

the issue is that zelda is heavily styliesed (spelling), take away all the yricks that make it look good, and ur left with ... well. that

lucian22913d ago

thing is you can be heavily stylized and detailed. zelda isnt unique in cel shading, just look at the detail given by arc system works granblue versus rising or guilty gear

gold_drake16d ago

its astonishing that nintendo games will never achieve it. maybe in 10 years when all of us have moved on to greater things
