Street Fighter V March Update: Finished Product Edition?

Hardcore Gamer: Like many fans of the popular Street Fighter franchise, I took part in what is quite likely the highest grossing public beta testing in the history of video games. The event I am referring to was on February 16, which was more commonly referred to as the release date for Street Fighter V.

Street Fighter V will never be a finished product. And if you noticed, most games are being released half finished. I believe this is beneficial for the publisher and here's why:

1. This gives us more DLC
2. We are giving these companies more money which will help bring sequels faster. The gaming economy isn't what it once was. Companies can't spit out games as often because of the software development cost from today's technology.

ICANPLAYGAMES22965d ago

What are you, a publisher? Get outta here with all that horse$#!t, that is some ridiculous crap.

rocketpanda2965d ago

Oh yes, it is extremely beneficial to the publishers, and the more people keep buying and pre-order games before any reviews because they think they know better, then it will get worse, similar to early access.

The ”gaming economy” is bigger than it ever was, and developers spit games on a yearly basis just look at the main franchises. The cost of developing a game is down to the developer, but is not an excuse to piece meal their games or release them half-arsed. Look how Evolve died almost as soon as it was released because trying to sell everything dlc as soon as the game launched and Square Enix tried to "Augment" pre-orders of Deus Ex into a million different versions, but thankfully cancelled it due to backlash.

If getting fleeced was a religion, you would be God.

Hoffmann2965d ago

Its as finished today as Killer Instinct was in January 2014.

Fin_The_Human2965d ago

You seriously had to bring KI into this brah.

Hoffmann2965d ago

Why not? Both games were not even halfway complete at launch. Capcom mentioned they will add characters for 4-5 years, thats their plan. And if the next years are like 2016, that also means new stages, costumes and game modes. Just how KI evolved with the time until what it is now.

Fin_The_Human2965d ago (Edited 2965d ago )

The pricing model for KI and SFV are totally different.

You don't need to pay $60 to play KI as you have diffent bundles or if you want you can play it for free with one character or buy each character individually.

Compare it like this.

SFV is like going to burger king and paying full price for a combo but BK only gives you the burger and tells you to come back for the fries and soda on later date.

KI is like going to Wendy's and looking at the 99 cent menu and choosing what you want until you reach you budget.

I never knew Paradox started developing Street Fighter games.

quent2965d ago

Game development is potentially cheaper then ever with pre built game engines and digital downloads/no distribution costs, tech is as expensive as your development budget allows it, gamers/customer shouldn't be picking up the tab if the publishers budget gets overblown, maybe they should take some of that season pass and ad money and put some content in their $60 products.

formanbradley2965d ago

It will be finished for me when it has arcade mode and the cinematic story mode in June.

Street Fighter 5: Analysing a Tarnished Legacy

Street Fighter 5 launched in 2016, and is widely considered a misstep for the hugely popular franchise. This article explains why that is.

Terry_B136d ago

Every Street Fighter is called a misstep of the series since Street Fighter III..and even the Alpha games were not liked by everyone.

SF V had a miserable start but later it did a lot things actually better than SFIV and SF6.

SF6 is the first SF since SFII Turbo for that I did not buy at launch. And today, around 6 months after its launch I still have no motivation to buy it.

kevco33134d ago

I've had every Street Fighter on launch since SFII on the SNES. SFV is definitely my least played of them all.

SF6 is very good. You should give it a second look.

Terry_B134d ago

Maybe in 2-3 years when there is a version that has characters I care for.

So far there is not one of the new characters I like..and my favourite 4 are not a part of it either. (Bison, Balrog, Sagat and Vega) + the whole hip hop style and the crappy music turned me totally off.

Looking forward a lot to Tekken 8.

Sano24134d ago

SF4 vanilla was loved by most and and not considered a misstep. It wasn't until they went revision crazy that people started turning on Capcom.

Terry_B134d ago

Don't remember the criticques it got for the big hands and feet, the sometimes weird looking faces, the lame boss (Seth) and that so many characters were shotos and yup..the many new versions. Just every SF got its haters no matter how good it was.

Nerdmaster134d ago

It was criticized for the first trailers having an interesting art style with those ink splashes, but the real game had none of that and people felt cheated. And Capcom decided to add some of those effects in the game later because of the backlash. But I don't remember any other big complaints about it.

EvertonFC134d ago

I grew out of fighting games, loved them as a kid but online you just get your ass kicked over and over leaving just the bare bones single player and also having no friends anymore who like fighting games either just makes me not want to buy or play them anymore.

CrimsonWing69134d ago

I dunno, I like Street Fighter 5 quite a bit. 🤷‍♂️

Shiro173134d ago

Sf6 is the best sf since sf4ae lol
