Yup this wont go down well with Sony since he will be making money from it. He should do what others have done and make it free and accept donations instead

OptimusC3090d ago

kinda dug himself a hole if you ask me.

Null3090d ago (Edited 3090d ago )

I don't understand your phantom disagrees.

I tried to tell him on twitter, but he wouldn't listen to reason, but he wouldn't Listen to reason, so he blocked me.

I tried to tell him it doesn't matter if he or the almighty SOSA himself ported it to Windows once you start charging for something you didn't make or own the rights to expect trouble. I told him IT DOESN'T matter if you spent time reverse engineering someone else's original work and got it working 1:1 somewhere else. It's still someone else's work and you're being scummy mongrel charging for it(not even reasonable 30 people first day and he's charging $10.. not an easy $5, but ten). I told him IT DOESN'T what you think. what does matter is this can and will get YOU into serious legal hot water and once Sony slaps you with official court documents it's over, I even asked about simply making donations an option, but he just kept going on about "MUH FREE TIME" "MUH HOURS SPENT WORKING ON BUGS" (Because of his gluttony Sony's probably going to patch this anyway.) I guess this is why he took over the original project, went closed source and denied anyone access to the program. I'm starting to think that he and the E-GPU Dev guy are the same person.

Don't worry though. If he wants to be scum, I can be scum too. I'll just buy it from a shell and release it for free on MEGA or something. Call me a pirate or what ever you'd like, but wake up and look at what he's doing. I'm just making what was once free, free again for everyone

Crimzon3090d ago

@Null

Sheesh, the guy sounds like he's doing this for all the wrong reasons. The fact he's gone closed source on this tells me everything that I need to know and when Sony eventually gets round to slapping him with a legal notice for trying to make money off their service I won't be feeling sorry for him. I do feel sorry for anyone silly enough to buy what he's selling, though.

uth113090d ago

I can't blame him for wanting to charge for his hard work. Most of the people who disagree have probably never worked on a project like this in their spare time.

The problem is anyone would be a fool to buy it. Sony won't be happy about their protocols being hacked, and they will likely soon issue patches for the PS4 and official remote play apps, locking this out.

And others mention possible PSN ban for users of this app. I don't know how realistic this is, but why risk it?

guitarded773089d ago

I'm sure it's built using some code that Sony owns, so they can shut him down. The good thing is now that gamers see it as a real, working thing, Sony will kinda be forced to do it themselves as gamers will want it.

Gohadouken3089d ago (Edited 3089d ago )

@uth11

That's not how it works . No one forced him to dive into the project and spend those hours .

Complaining about that now , is akin to some volunteer worker suddendly asking for a salary and pay , because of the numerous hours he sank into it .

It's wrong , and like everyone said , useless for many reasons like future patches and lawsuits

uth113089d ago

No, what's wrong is everyone feeling entitled to it for free when they didn't lift a finger to make it happen, and blaming him. Instead of being thankful someone actually tried to make this work. And I can't wait to see the collective hissy fit when he stops supporting it out of exasperation.

LordMaim3089d ago

@uth11: More like when he gets hit with a cease and desist order.

Gohadouken3089d ago (Edited 3089d ago )

@uth11

Actually what's wrong is trying to charge something from working on an illegal and unauthorized product . Everyone knows that once it's attempted , it's usually tolerance zero from the manufacturers . But hey if he can take the heat so be it .

Besides you know very well that the app wasnt "advertized" as paid first . He could just have said so from the beginning but didnt to build up expectations .

We all know what will happens . First someone wont care and distribute his stuff for free . Then HE will throw a hissy fit . If not shut down first

Yep. Its a bad situation but as soon as he charges, it will be pirated and Sony will sue. Not worth it.

Better to accept donations.

bmf73643090d ago

I will be looking forward to the pirate of this pirate software

The_BlackHeart__3089d ago

The last time Sony took a pirate to court their network went down for weeks, and had to let him go. I'm not saying Geohot was involved into the PSN hacks, but he certainly has "friends" that sympathize with what he did for the scene.

fei-hung3090d ago

It would be class if Sony don't sue him, but counter it by just releasing a better version for free at PSX.

UKmilitia3089d ago

i didnt realise that the pc remote play wasnt offical.
i thought it was Sony releasing it.

garrettbobbyferguson3089d ago

I have to ask; what is the issue here? He's charging for his remote play program to stream to a PC. He's not charging for the use of a Sony product. I legitimately don't see the issue.

captainexplosion3090d ago

Is this to stream only within your home wifi network or can you stream from anywhere?

IIFloodyII3090d ago

Streams from the PS4, depending on how good your Internet is, you can getting working on a Vita from miles away.

kayoss3090d ago (Edited 3090d ago )

Not sure if this will work the same way as the PS vita or PSTV. But i live in California and travel to Toronto often for work. I used to bring my PS4 because i could be there for weeks. But it sucks carrying a system around in your luggage. The PS Vita works great (i tried it) but playing Destiny on that thing sucks. So i bought a PS TV so that i can use my dualshock 4. Even with the shoddy hotel internet, I was able to stream Destiny. I completed an entire raid with no hiccups. But i do run into issue once in a while (mostly lag and the occasional lost of communication). But for my ps4 to be in California and me streaming it from all the way from Toronto, to me it's impressive.

whothedog3090d ago

I think sony will offer it free at some point

Zero1093090d ago

Coming from the same company that's making you pay (a ridiculous price at that) to stream the games you already own to your PS4? I would understand games you didn't own but that price point is bs.

Aenea3090d ago

Think a minute before replying, why don't you?

RemotePlay does not use any of Sony's resources, the only thing it cost them is making of the programs, nothing more, nothing less.

PS Now streaming games to you means they have a whole bunch of servers around the world (well, UK and North America currently), those servers aren't free, neither is the network. Add in the fact that publishers want to see money for their games being played using it and you get why they have to charge an amount for it that you don't like. Maybe the price seems high, and yes, I would not pay that on a monthly basis either, but it is what it is...

madmonkey013089d ago

not everyone that uses ps now owns the games on it, and ou dont need a ps4 to use it.

BLAKHOODe3089d ago

Microsoft is changing the game with all it's recent upgrades. Sony will soon follow. That's how it's always been. A constant cat and mouse game of one-up-manship. If the Xbox One is the top selling console this Holiday, we'll see this feature and more coming out of Sony sooner than later.

uth113090d ago

I'm not paying for something unofficial when Sony is likely to release a patch to break it

Ripsta7th3090d ago

That will most likely happen
they will prolly wait to see how many suckers fall for it and the BAM
banned from PSn lol

He should of thought of all the time he put in BEFORE spending all these hours.

It's pretty obvious this isn't going to fly with Sony. Love it or hate it, it's OBVIOUS.

Also, many people don't need to do this. It's called...
Grab remote.
Hit input button
select up or down a few times
Hit Ok/enter

My 4ktv which was showing my PS4 is now showing my PC.

MyDietEqualsGames3089d ago (Edited 3089d ago )

Wouldnt have to select another input if ps4 games can run from the desktop through this or an official means by Sony.

What’s Even The Point Of Xbox Game Pass Now?

Between a larger industry trend toward risk-averse development and indie devs reporting that deals for the service are drying up, Game Pass is starting to feel potentially purposeless.

Futureshark2m ago

The whole thing started to stagnate a long time ago, it was the introduction of BC that kept it going with the odd release here and there.
Nothing like that to fall back on now.

Remnant 2: The Forgotten Kingdom Review - The Standard Bar of DLCs - The Koalition

Joe LaRue of The Koalition writes: Developed by Gunfire Games and published by Arc Games, Remnant 2 released its DLC titled The Forgotten Kingdom for $9.99 which is a steal. This DLC should be the standard bar of all DLCs for the price and what you get. Amidst the eerie remnants of Yaesha’s once majestic ziggurats, now haunted by the echoes of untold stories and revenge, players will follow intricately designed murals, uncover secrets and clues, and watch the pieces slowly come together.
