That wouldn't work because most TVs are 60Hz and 50 does not divide evenly into 60 so the result would be a constant stutter/judder.

This is console gaming and devs will always prefer better gfx to higher frame rate on average. Pc rigs just throw excessive power at the problem, and thereby get around it. I just bought my new rig 5 min ago lol.

Hmm, shame it's a typo, 50fps is pretty nice, a lot (all?) of HDTVs can support it natively because our TVs in the EU used to be 50hz. One of my older pc builds i used to output to the HDTV at 50hz as I couldn't quite hit 60 consistently. :)

But meh, 30.

You are confusing framerate(FPS) with screen response time(HZ). Two different things.

No I'm not. HDTVs often have variable refresh rates, as do some monitors. (you can even overclock some monitors and get higher refresh rates)

I'm guessing if you're in the US they might only have 60hz refresh as an option as itd be pointless to have 50 there? Our TV/console standard was always 50fps until HDMI came along, so there was a huge legacy to support. I was wrong to assume they had variable refresh rates everywhere, they certainly do here though. :)

It lists the different refresh rates in the manuals. It pops up the info on my Trinitron's UI when it detects 1080/50 or 1080/60. (also some TVs can switch to 24hz for better movie viewing)

If they can lock it at 30fps... ok. Im more concerned about the Dev saying 30fps, but then having it drop down into the mid/low 20s at times.

Nothing like watching movement at a smooth 60fps tho, but 30 isn't a deal breaker to me.

Yes you are. FPS=Frames of animation per second.Games can run at 30FPS and still have a screen refresh rate of 60FPS. COD runs at 60FPS even if the screen input response of your TV is 50Hz. You dont lose ten frames of animation. Your screen simply refreshes at a lowered frequency response (50HZ). The two are seperate thing. I have games on my PC that I can only run at 30FPS yet my screens are refreshing at 60Hz. The two are are different things. I am also in the UK and just to hit it home, My 60Hz US snes and jap-import white sega saturn ran at 60Hz on my 50Hz TV with the help of a step down converter back in the day. No games on those machines ran at anything like 60FPs (Except virtua fighter 2).

So screen refresh and Binary frames per second= Not the same thing.

Given that only a handful of real games have run at 60 FPS...

Not infamous SS, not Shadow of Mordor, not Destiny, not Dragon Age, not DriveClub, and even TLOU had an option for steady 30 vs fluctuating 60...

People really have to stop caring about this. There are more games running at 30 FPS than 60 FPS this generation. Just accept it and move on.
